Card being more comfortable and having a playbook advantage should hardly be a surprise. Ewers is basically a true freshman considering it’s a new system for him and he prob didn’t get many reps at tOSU (tbh he might have developed more as a senior in HS)

Card having a more lively arm is a hot take though

They both have the arm to make all the throws on the field. Ewers release is a tad quicker but it’s not surprising it might take him some time to truly get comfortable.

Sitting behind a Heisman finalist feels more valuable than trucking 160 pound LBs.

Ghosts of Knute Rockne, John Heisman, and Jim Thorpe were originally scheduled to headline the clinic but had to cancel last minute for a ghost orgy with Amelia Earhart, Marilyn Monroe, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
I would pay 9.95 for this

refs see that arm extend like that and they are going to call offensive pass interference.

They'd be wrong if they did. There was no discernible shove or alteration of the DB's motion, and the DB had his hand up, too.

The Longhorns were in full pads Saturday for the first scrimmage of spring practice.

Talked to a couple sources who observed the scrimmage, and even though the defense had the better day by a slim margin, it was a better day for the offense than during Thursday’s practice.

Not surprisingly, Hudson Card, in his second year with Steve Sarkisian's offense, looked the most comfortable at QB1, although Quinn Ewers showed flashes of the play-making that made him the country's No. 1 recruit in 2021, according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.

"Card is more polished in the offense right now than Ewers, which you'd expect," one source said.

It sounds like the only quarterbacks who got reps in the scrimmage were Card, Ewers and Ben Ballard.

I’m told it was a really good day for receiver Jordan Whittington.

One source said, “Whittington was the standout guy on offense - made a bunch of plays today. His attitude is right, had good energy and body language and was operating at a high level. You can feel his urgency.”

Perhaps the most underrated news of Saturday's scrimmage was Gunnar Helm standing out among the tight ends.

“Helm looks comfortable,” a source said. “He’s blocking well, moving well and made catches down the field. He just seems to have everything down a little better than Ja'Tavion Sanders right now. It's early. But Helm is off to a good start and had a really good day (Saturday)."

Sounds like all of the team’s top five running backs made plays on Saturday. Everyone expects that of Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, but sources said Keilan Robinson, Jaydon Blue and Jonathon Brooks all had nice runs in addition to catching the ball out of the backfield.

On defense, outside linebacker David Gbenda and middle linebacker Jaylan Ford were singled out for their play on Saturday.

One source said the entire secondary performed well on Saturday

Time to run that go go offense with all five rbs out there somehow

Also fuck chip brown

Easily done.

1.   Rojo QB

2.  Robinsons RBs

3. Blue and Brooks WRs

4. Zay Slot

5. QED

6. Profit

That’s awesome.

Allen Iverson’s practice rant is one of the greatest moments in sports history. Actually, in all of history.

Agree.  Anyone who every challenged Iverson's intensity, dedication, and effort either did not pay attention or just did not like Iverson.

Nice that they Texas Spring Practice thread has evolved to highlight the greatness of Allen Iverson.

Intensity and effort, yes. He had a lot of Westbrook to his game though meaning that he wasn't a point guard and a 6'0" off guard with no true point guard on the team to distribute can be an issue. Westbrook btw averaged 8.4 assists per game to Iverson's 6.2.

Quick team notes from IT (It's okay, you can uncover your eyes and read, @BurntOrange&White, they don't mention the C word)

Team Notes:

Steve Sarkisian is pretty excited about the start to Spring ball. After three practices he’s saying the energy and focus of the program has improved. He also believes team leadership is improving. One source said the large influx of Sark’s hand-picked recruits has improved program mindset and they can’t wait to get the rest of the 2022 class on campus.

Bobby mentioned there’s a lot of optimism around one of those new guys — wide receiver Isaiah Neyor. Indeed, Neyor was the first player mentioned when IT asked a source about Saturday’s practice. Jordan Whittington was the second receiver mentioned, which was moderately interesting. We all know Xavier Worthy is a player. It sounds like he’s going to have a lot more help next season.

There is so much tinkering going on that it’s impossible to figure out an identity on either side of the ball. Players are shuffling all over and the coaches are working on numerous different looks. This will likely be an evolution throughout the spring practice window.

I see IT is channeling their inner-TexAgs.
