Report: Ohio State Couldn't Afford 5-Star Recruit, Outbid By SEC School (msn.com)

  Quote

"Ohio State missed out on a 5 star recruit because they could not pay him even half of what he was looking for. They didn’t get him over $750k...UGA offered the kid 1.8M to sign and 800k/season...OSU couldn't get him more than 500K," Dave Biddle said on 97.1 The Fan this morning.

I have no doubt that Bowen’s getting paid but 2 million seems… excessive. Especially when ou couldn’t even raise 2 million in a month.

I don't know which I find harder to believe.  OU paying 2 mill or Bowen claiming he's picking on program fit....

Claim of $2 million offer for Bowen from Oregon.

Happy to keep him away from OU, if true

That account is run by people who make money off kids and families chasing NIL money. It wouldn't surprise me if they were inflating numbers to get parents to sign up for their courses to find out how they can get that bag.

As he makes millions for being on the sideline, he is shocked to see players getting their thousands for making and taking the hits. His innocence is now lost forever.

Looks like Kenny Vaccaro is getting involved in NIL. His E-sports team just did a deal with Justice. This is super fucking cool because of the alumni player angle and the esports angle.

"super fucking cool" + "esports"

man, I have seen what happens to the average attractiveness of the Raleigh population during big esports tournaments and it is (literally) not pretty
(That said, obviously happy for Kenny and Justice, that's great for them)

I'm 29 so maybe my perspective is a bit different. That being said there are several esports teams worth north of 500m. It's big business now. That being said there is a very bad (and apparently aptly earned) stigma that esports tournaments REEK. I've never been to one, but I enjoy watching Kenny's success from afar.

Wait a minute…you telling me there are computer-generated football teams worth $500M+????

I work in the esport/streaming marketing space, will be in Raleigh in a few months for one of those events, and have tried to figure out ways to make it profitable for UT NIL (spoilers: it doesn't work without sponsors since both sides want to be paid), so this board learning and litigating what esport are should be productive and entertaining.

I am guessing his NIL opportunities make it easier for him to stay in school another year. Not shot it matches top 20 draft money? but perhaps it is enough to allow him to stay at FSU for another year (which I assume he really wants to do).

So...basically how it's been for college football since the beginning of time? Thanks Jeff.

I'd be really curious to hear what he believes constitutes "abuse" in this situation. If it's tampering like USC, sure. If it's collectives...sorry bud. Collectives have evened the playing field for some. And I say all this as a Traylor fan. I feel like he wouldn't be complaining if he were in Austin.

and this is another reason why Burnt Ends is head and shoulders further along, and better than the "gator collective", not even bringing in the texas one fund into the fray.
