I really like this deadline by the Astros. Also gave very few prospects including none in the top 5/10( I can't remember if McDermott was top 10).

Looking at the box score, the Dubon Mancini McCormick Vazquez bench looks way better than two days ago.

Two months to self improve before the playoffs

How much longer do we get to watch Jake be an auto out at the plate?

Wulaw is out of town so we can blast away without fear of a 200 word rebuttal.

I’ve said for 10 days to 2 weeks he’s shot, not right, and needs to not be part of any plans this year.

This team is exhausted.

They aren't exhausted, they are playing with 2 automatic outs while Altuve and Tucker are in extended slumps. Even with Gurriel riding a hot streak, it's not sustainable. He's producing a .741 OPS with a robust .343 BAbip. No HRs and only 3 BBs in his last 22 games. Gurriel's last HR was July 1st, since the Astros are built to score runs with HRs, having a guy that can't hit them anymore seems to be the wrong decision.

I think Blum hates Esch more than me. He doesn't even speak.

Telecast drops to like a negative 3 with these two dudes together. TK is senile, but at least its not totally dull and awkward

Glaring holes? The Astros have gigantic holes at LF, CF, C, and 1B. At this point I would give Leon or Julks a shot over Jake Meyers. You can't game plan around his noodle arm and horrible plate discipline.

1B: Gurriel is hitting well the last 2 months; he is the 2021 batting champion and a clubhouse leader; I wouldn’t call that “glaring” but regardless they went out and got Mancini and Vazquez to upgrade the position.

LF: Brantley has a 128 wRC+ on the year; McCormick has been well above average at 111.  Again, wouldn’t call that glaring but they addressed it with Mancini.

Catcher: it is clear the Astros have a totally different value on defense, gamecalling, and pitcher management than fans (and most other teams).  But again, they addressed with Vazquez.

CF: With Meyers being hurt this is the only reasonable spot you can say they have a “glaring” hole.  But McCormick has been well above average here.  And even with a gimpy arm and obvious rust Meyers grades very well on defense and merely bad (not horrible) on offense.  If you assume he just needs a couple of weeks to get healthy and into a groove then this wouldn’t be viewed as a glaring hole.  But even if it is, what would you have had Click do?  Give up Luis Garcia for Harrison fuckin Bader?  No star CF got moved.  To beat out SD for Soto it would have taken something suicidal like Garcia, Javier, Brown, Leon, Whitley, and Diaz, and even that probably would not have beaten out the haul Washington got.  Who knows what the asking prices for Mullins and Reynolds and Happ were but they were high enough that no other team pulled the trigger.  So I guess it’s something to whine about but it doesn’t appear there was any realistic alternative to standing pat other than getting raped.
