I don’t get mad at Dusty for his lineups or  occasional questionable strategy decisions but I’m pissed at how long it took him to get out there. Did he delegate to Espada and Miller? Because they were out there pretty quick.
Wut. Dusty was first one there....espada strolled up after him and Miller was even later

Y’all are nuts on Maton. He was our best pitcher in the 2021 playoffs. Claim an injury, sit him for 2 weeks, and a rehab assignment.

It seems increasingly likely that the 2021 playoffs were the aberration. He's been dog shit this season, and, importantly, his performance this season is in line with his career numbers.

Maton sucked last year too.  The only time he was good was the playoffs.

Difference is we got a long way to go til the playoffs compared to last year when we obtained him.

Maton might become great again. But proving that means pitching him...which is hard to justify in any high-leverage situation. And to me, that's defined as any game in which the lead or deficit is 3 runs or fewer. He's currently the Astros' Aaron Nixon, which is a compliment to neither guy.

agreed.

right now we have our closer (pressly), a three-headed monster setup situation to handle the 7th/8th (montero/neris/stanek), and once odorizzi comes back, possibly two guys who can throw multiple innings including high leverage (javier/abreu).

we don't need to dfa maton, but he can have the rest of the season to try out for the postseason roster, because when we only need 4 starters, those spots become even tougher to make, which is great news for a team who already has the (checks notes) best bullpen in baseball.  and that's all assuming zero from lmj.

maton needs to do 2 things: throw strikes and get lefties out.  end of list.  if he can't do it, we'll find someone else who can.  maybe we'll just trade for graveman again.

I'd really like Alex Bregman to start playing good baseball again.

Maybe next home game, run from Home to 3rd with a bat as the Astros take the field.  Then drop it in the dirt and tell the ballboy/ girl to give it to the nicest fan they see.

Reverse that bat run...

it seems bizarre and ridiculous that the decline of a player's performance can be traced precisely to one weird non-injury, non-baseball related play.

but here we are.

Y'all are overreacting about Maton. He is top ten percent in avg exit velo and hard hit % and his fastball and curve spin rates are top 5%. I expect his results to improve.

I want to heart/horns up this post, but then you had to throw in Graveman’s name.
