And today we get to watch the pitcher we gave up for an injured bench player Dahmer-fuck the pitcher Cashman thought was good enough to replace him.

5 scoreless for Montgomery.  Only a 1-0 lead for the redbirds though.

Expanded wild card is good for the game, there’s really no other way around it.

I've seen a couple of YouTubes videos lamenting the drop in attendance across MLB, but it will be interesting to see if that shifts with more teams in contention the last two months.  Signs in Bahlmore point to maybe.

I like Oneil Cruz so much that I'd even buy him an apostrophe:

But would you splurge to buy him an extra 'L'?

Our man has 8 HRs with an average distance of 414.5 ft.  He only has one HR less than 400 ft and that one went 398.  Es un hombre malo.

Guess it depends on what you mean by “good for the game.” It’s great for the owners. More teams have a chance to play in the postseason, which increases interest for a few more fan bases. Also, they are less incentivized to try to build great teams (and thus can get away with lower payrolls) since you get to the playoffs for being just pretty good.

On the flip side, the more teams that get into the playoffs, the less likely it is that the actual best teams - proven over 162 games, not 7 - play in the WS.

We are the best team in baseball. Anyone who argues that is wrong. Will we win it all?who knows.

Y’all are good, no doubt. Particularly the top of the lineup. But can a team that starts 4 players hitting < .205 really be heads and shoulders above the the other elite teams?

PHILADELPHIA -- Pete Rose dismissed questions Sunday about his first appearance on the field in Philadelphia since the franchise scrapped plans in 2017 to honor him because of a woman's allegation that she had sex with baseball's hit king when she was a minor.

"It was 55 years ago, babe," Rose told a female baseball writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Rose, 81, declined to answer any other questions in the dugout moments after a team photo in the outfield meant to celebrate the Phillies' 1980 World Series championship team and other former players. The original 1980 anniversary celebration was postponed for two seasons because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Rose made his first appearance on the playing field in Philadelphia since receiving a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball in August 1989. He agreed to the ban after an investigation for MLB by lawyer John Dowd found that Rose placed numerous bets on the Cincinnati Reds to win from 1985 to 1987 while he was playing for and managing the team.

The Phillies, however, planned to honor Rose in 2017 for his contributions to the 1980 World Series champions and 1983 National League pennant winners.

The woman, identified as Jane Doe in 2017, said Rose called her in 1973, when she was 14 or 15, and they had sexual encounters in Cincinnati that lasted several years. She also alleged Rose met her in locations outside Ohio for sex.

Rose's lawyer had said the woman's claims are unverified.

Rose acknowledged in 2017 that he did have a relationship with the woman, but he said it started when she was 16. He also said they never had sex outside Ohio.

At the time, Rose was in his mid-30s and was married with two children.

The Phillies were going to induct Rose into their Wall of Fame in an on-field ceremony. That ceremony was canceled, and there were no other plans to celebrate Rose until this season. He was set to be introduced on the field before Sunday's game alongside many former teammates from the 1980 title team.

Has a team ever had as bad a trade deadline as us this year? Benintendi might be worse than Gallo and is 2-45 or something to start his Yankee career. Montas got rocked today and has proven he sucks. Two below average relievers. And our other acquisition was *checks notes* a light hitting center fielder who was out for the entire year with an injury BEFORE we traded for him. We knowingly got someone that couldn’t play this year. Motherfucking bullshit fuck.

Gallo still sucks at least. One single that should’ve been an error and one single off a position player.

it takes a special kind of asshole / dick to be banned from baseball, in a sport full assholes / dicks

pete rose is next level

He's banned from baseball because he bet on games. Him being an asshole is largely immaterial.

The Benintendi trade was a good one because they gave up virtually nothing to get him.  The Montas/Montgomery moves were odd in conjunction, although Bader will likely be more valuable than both of them next season.

He was offered chances to stop gambling and to make up.
