In a new live-action reveal trailer shared during Gamescom 2024, developer Firaxis confirmed that actor Gwendoline Christie will narrate Sid Meier's Civilization 7. This isn't the first time a Game of Thrones star has played a narrator in the Civilization franchise.

Also sounds like warfare is very good this go round.

I know there are only 3 ages, kind of wish or hope there's an option to break  those up in the future.

A standard game maybe you play Ancient/Classical -Medieval/Exploration - Industrial/Modern?

But if you play a long game you get full  fledged ages with tech trees in each age.

Ancient - Classical - Medieval - Renaissance - Industrial - Modern

You can change age speed/length in settings.

There will probably be a 4th age added as DLC in the future.

Right, but my thought was, being able to changing the game speed would result in having more ages for you to go through, versus having a condensed game would result in having the condensed ages we will have in game currently.

I'm a Civ noob and have read this elsewhere.  Considering giving Civ5 or Civ6 a shot.  Leaning towards 6 since it seems to be more friendly to those who are coming at it fresh but may lack some of the depth of strategy in Civ5.

I almost bought it yesterday.  Not too worried about the differences from past versions or anything like that.

What halted me was the bullshit business practice of not including everything in the base game.  If you want all the leaders and their UU and UA, you have to shell out almost twice as much for the “special” version that includes everyone.

That right there is why they’re not getting anything out of me until it’s complete and goes on sale.  I would be ok with a slightly buggy game on release that needed patches, as long as I got the entire game on purchase.  This locking content behind additional paywalls is bullshit.

I too will be waiting until it is on sale.  I may try to pick up VI in the meantime.  I haven't played since Revolution, and will only be playing on xbox.

Still haven’t had a chance to play it. Now that 7 is out to complain about are people praising 6?

Pretty much lol.

But 7 does make some big design changes like decoupling leaders from nations, and introducing an "eras" system that breaks the game into 3 segments if you play a full game from start.

The maps aren't great, and will probably be a ton better in 3 or 6 or so months with the first big feature update

Nvm - dumb question - unless 5 is available on xbox.

Just try them both. Looks like you can get both complete editions for like $15.

I think 5 is a better game - 6 is easier though.

If you have a wife and kids now would be a good time to say goodbye, btw.

I'm mixed about it, but it still feels like civ, so I'll probably still sink hundreds of hours into it. I'm also questioning some of the choices they made, but supposedly they're taking some of the feedback on the bad UI design to heart and are going to fix some things. If you're a Civ fan, buy it, if you're on he fence, wait for a DLC or two.

I'm mixed as well.  Slogging my way through my first game and find myself begrudgingly accepting some of the main changes they made from VI-->VII.  Separating leaders from civs is pretty major, and then switching civs every age seemed bonkers until I played it out.  I like the historical accuracy part most--my American phalanxes (spears, not brrrrt) fighting Egyptian chariots always seemed odd to me.  I'm already planning my next game, which is a good thing I guess.
