Now that they've had a stern talking to, aggy is being good little troopers but it can't last long, right? Will their first freakout THIS WEEK be when they realize Texas is getting a full revenue share upon entry to the SEC, and not a half share like they had to accept? Wasn't it for their first 2 or 3 years in the conference?

To my knowledge, the SEC didn't do reduced shares for aggy or Mizzou. The Big 10 did, but those reduced shares I believe were to offset financial support given to the incoming schools to offset transitional expenses.

The SEC didn't give aggy financial support in 2012 when transitional expenses left aggy athletics (yet again) unable to pay its bills. Rather, the academic side increased the amount of the "interest-free loan" that had been outstanding since 2006 by $5.2 million. This "loan" is still being paid down in installments and is scheduled to be finally repaid later in the decade.

I have no doubt both UT and OU will receive full distributions from Day 1.

Happy SEC week lads.

What's our predictions for realignment? I've got

SEC- Texas OU

Big 10- ISU Kansas

ACC- WVU Baylor

PAC- Tech OSU TCU

AAC- Kansas St

This seems most logical, although I hope Baylor doesn't even make it into the AAC. It's not realistic but they can fuck off to the Lonestar conference for all I give a shit.

Usually it’s a tame weekend for school and team news this time of year. The last couple of days have been anything but.

First, the powers that be at Texas A&M, giving a we support the SEC press release, seemed to fall in line with the desires of the SEC head office. Then Texas and OU both spoke with Big 12 officials and, according to published reports, the duo gave no sign of backing away from its apparent intentions to join the SEC.

Now, a new week is upon us.

Among the expectations are for both Texas and OU to send a notice discontinuing its affiliation with the Big 12 conference at some point in the future. After that, Texas and OU are expected to seek conference affiliation within the SEC.

The stage is set for this week. Now the actors just have to walk through the door.

**

While there has been some conjecture about the long-term future of the SEC, one in which the conference might add even more teams than Texas and Oklahoma, I am told that was not part of any discussions with the Longhorns.

That doesn’t preclude it from happening eventually. Nor does it mean it necessarily will.

From talking and texting with multiple people at Texas, however, I do not get the sense that the possibility changes the calculus of Texas and its future conference affiliation.

**

The remaining Big 12 schools are apparently wiling to consider an uneven revenue share with the Longhorns and Sooners for Tier I and Tier II media rights. Texas and OU already enjoy larger Tier III rights.

But I am told this possibility also does not move the needle for Texas brass.

Simply put, Texas and OU both feel it’s in their own best interest to ally long-term to the SEC. It’s not just the immediate financial reward of the SEC but the trajectory of its cash flow over the next two decades.

**

One other aspect that is not lost on Texas administrators is the acumen and willingness of SEC officials to maximize revenue for its conference members. The SEC does not shy away from appropriately leveraging its place in the college sports world and Texas sees that as an attractive quality in a partner.

Texas sees SEC headquarters as a competent negotiator. That’s not to say anything negative about the Big 12 office, but ESPN deciding not to open up renegotiation of the Big 12 conference media rights earlier this year is case in point.

The shirt will be orange, but just a shade off true burnt orange.  You know, just to twist the sips’ tails.

Won't work. We're used to the wrong burnt orange.

Tech can be irate and sure they have some good reasons to be but they had to know this was inevitable. We weren't dragging them to the next destination.

Mac's more bitter for TCU because he knows their time is over.

I’m so tired of this “UT has to stay in the big 12 because it would hurt other universities” bullshit.  That effectively means UT is handcuffed because other universities are admitting they cannot survive without UT, which means they are riding the UT coattails. How is that fair to UT? Why don’t people write about that point?

Because writing that doesn’t generate clicks.

Exactly. It’s not UT-Lubbock.

How the author of the article fails to connect the logical dot that if UT is hurting others by leaving, they are hurting themselves by staying.

Holy fuck they start a thread for every random thought that enters their head!  The setup seems to be very low tech.  You can like or dislike a thread but no rep count?  That place just seems like a cluster.

It really is awful how they organized everything. Sad thing is they actually had a thread about how they hate long threads. It was rather short.

This. Fuck all these other schools. Run your own business/program. None of them have EVER done jack shit for Texas. Why Texas is supposed to give a crap about what happens to Tech, Baylor etc is beyond me.

If Google pulls their office from Austin are they supposed to give a shit about Facebook, Oracle and others that are also downtown? This entire notion that somehow Texas is responsible for the livelihoods and well being of these other shitty Texas based schools is stupid.

If their athletic departments lose money then cut some non-revenue sports, shit maybe cut a layer or two of bloated admin, but don't blame Texas because your money train (that you have ZERO to fucking do with) is cut off. They are like a bunch of fucking trust fund babies who are upset that their Daddy is cutting off the spigot. Get fucked.

Articles like that are exactly why this is happening. Engel and others like him helped create this eventuality but they'll never realize that. Meanwhile they constantly complained about UT and ripped the school and athletic department in the press at every opportunity. Which, of course, damaged UT's reputation (albeit slightly) at every step which meant that UT was weaker than it otherwise would have been and less able to protect Tech and the others.

He is the exact kind of idiot who has been slowly killing Tech without knowing it.

Why does Texas, the larger university, not just eat Texas Tech?

But for real, why are WE responsible for saving/supporting/finding a landing spot for this school:

Baseball: 4 regular season championships, 1 conference tournament championship
Football: 0 conference titles
Men's Basketball: 1 regular season championship, 0 conference tournament championships
Women's Basketball: 3 regular season championships, 2 conference tournament championships

A whopping 27 Big 12 titles (13 regular season and 14 conference tournaments) since 1996.  Pretty pathetic for a founding member of the conference - only KSU is worse (17).

In reality it was Bullock, who made it clear that if Tech and Baylor were left out there would be consequences for both Texas and Texas A&M.

Basically, he threatened to withhold state funds.

Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU had no such allies this time around, and it allowed Texas to maneuver not only unimpeded but also with an escort from the governor himself.

So totally acceptable to blackmail Texas back in the 90’s to get their way because they has allies in power, but now upset that they can’t blackmail Texas again?

And then they wonder why Texas had to do this in secret…

Can you cite examples of the TTU athletic dept. "ripping UT in the press", prior to the news about the SEC move?

So, basically, UT is in an abusive relationship with 8 deadbeats.  Sounds about right.  The only great thing about being cast as the villain is you're not responsible for the suffering of others when you leave.

After we get this deal done, we need to get some legislation passed that makes our shit immune to other schools.

All 3 of those schools have a national title in a Big 4 sports, recently.

2021 MSU Baseball
2017 SC WBB
2014, 2019 Vanderbilt baseball

Tech's last Big 4 title was in 1993.  (They won T&F in 2019)

I love the narrative of how Texas moving to the SEC will destroy Lubbock businesses. Like we’re a small town textile mill that’s relocating to China and killing the local economy.

How Texas will kill Waco business was better.    It's not like when any Texas team visits, our fanbase spends a lot of cash there in the first place.   It's (or was) the only road trip for any sport that didn't require an overnight stay and maybe one meal within their city limits for them to feel any economic impact with the sales tax collections.   But damn their State Rep made it sound like they were destined for 1970's' 80's 90's and 2000's Detroit last week in his press release because we'd be not visiting Waco for one Saturday in October or November.  If Baylor can't fill up their stadium otherwise when they face whomever their new conference mates will be, that's on them.

Chip and Johanna  Gaines probably have more of a direct impact economic impact in   Waco on an average weekend with all the soccer moms dragging their husbands there to the silos and whatever else they have going than one single athletic event involving Texas.
