So in the many years we have played these guys we have been keeping track of how many times we have played where?  They came to Austin this year because we went to their house the year before.   There is no rule that says where you play the last game.   Fuck both of those dipshits.

I don’t know that there’s a “rule,” but it seems reasonable to play in Fort Worth and Waco because they just played in Austin. They’re almost certainly going to be on the schedule. If you think it’s advantageous for Texas to turn two quasi-home games into trips to Florida or Cincinnati or Utah — because Texas is going to have road conference games — it would be interesting to know why.

Whatever happens, happens.   If we do,  we do,  if we don't,  we don't.  My response was to the comment that  beller and tcu will insist because of long time rivalries.   Fuck them.

Sounds like you were responding to the wrong post then. That was someone else.

No big deal. I agree with you that the “traditional rivalries” talk is a non-starter. If they’d man up and say “we want the gate and rest of the influx of money that comes with Texas” at least that would be something.

Schedule not out because we are still haggling over the exit.  ESPN wants it now.  Fox wants it never.  Very slim chance is happens in 2023.  Most likely 2024.

Ah.  Didn’t know ESPN wanted it now. Thought they wanted 24

What if we let Fox have Texas/ou the next two years?

Would be very difficult for that to happen, as you’d have to get ESPN and the SEC to agree. Locking down a few out of conference games with Big 12 teams is the path of least resistance, even if it’s not our favorite option.

How about- “ESPN, you let us give a couple of RRS to Fox, and we’ll let you guide our non-conference schedule for a couple of years. You give input on who you want us to play”.

from my understanding.. FOX doesn't just want  a couple RRS.. they want 6 or so games.  They probably would settle for RRS for the next 2 years and UT playing a current/new Big12 member for the next 2 years OOC .. maybe they settle for the rights to the upcoming home games when UM and tosu come into town.

To be fair they aren’t just losing the RRSO. During the regular season this year FOX/FS1 had a Texas or Oklahoma game every weekend except for the RRSO which was on ABC this year, a week where OU had a bye, and one random week where Texas was on ABC and OU was on ESPN2.

So FOX is losing roughly 10 games each year. They still have the same number of game inventory, but the quality will take a hit without Texas/OU.

And any game they want us to play on the Cougar High campus we should say, "We'll take the forfeit and schedule someone else to play at home for that Saturday!" even if it means it's an old-school radio-only game due to the networks being pissy little twats that we *dared* ("Horrors!") to forfeit a game on a campus that we will NEVER set foot on again.

Texans' stadium, Rice Stadium, even that Shell Energy soccer stadium (that's also used for football) is preferable to playing in that Shithole-campus known as Cougar High. Not after the 2001 stadium-gate "Texas fans go in the dangerous rickety stands and aren't allowed in the empty stadium seats" Bullshit..... Consequences must be dished out.

Sounds good and is fun to think about but this is on the same level of thinking of people who say "let's just nuke Iran and turn the middle east to GLASS!!!!!1!"  The repetitional and media hit we'd take for forfeiting a game b/c Houston was incompetent in setting up their stadium 20 years ago would be massive and lasting.  It would give yet another excuse for the national media who already want to shit on Texas to do so, and the ensuing pile on from other fanbases about "cowardly" Texas, regardless of the real reasons.

Thankfully our admin are adults.  "The best revenge is living well."  Go play at Houston, beat them by 4 TDs at their place.  Stomp the rest of the Big12 and win the title on our way out with middle fingers held high.  That's the plan.

In fairness, they tore Jeppesen Stadium down.  The new stadium is just on the same site.

sung to the beach boys "Barbara Ann."

the replacement robertson seats 40000

reliant/nrg seats 72000 including 7000 club $seats and 186 suites

kittyhigh would be giving up a shitload of money to play us at robertson2

What are the chances the conference exacts a little revenge on OU and Texas by not scheduling the annual Red River Shootout? In essence, the conference would be telling them that if OU and Texas want to continue the uninterrupted series, they must do so in 2023 as a non-conference game?

Cross-posting since this fills in potential answers to financials...

Seems like $16mill given up by each of the "Left Behind Eight" to add  Cincy/UH/BYU/UCF is a big part of this negotiation.  Plus Texas/blOU agreeing to a few games with FOX to compensate them.

---------------------------------------------

$16mil x 8 = $128mil.  Guess Texas and blOU will likely pay $64mil a piece.

Edit:  More recent video says 60-65% of this number is now likely plus Texas & blOU agreeing to additional games on FOX to compensate for their early departure from B12.

Zero. While if they actually did it I don’t think I could help but laugh at the pettiness, the Big 12 is not throwing its marquee game out. It would be a huge story that would flip the narrative from the Big 12 being a victim of OU/Texas’s greed to a villain; a vengeful ex that can’t move on. Texas and OU would also schedule a non conference game with SEC branding all over it.

Everyone involved at the administrative level is long gone. It’s like still turning your nose up at playing aggy, but even dumber given that it’s literally one game. Texas was always going to get stuck with a couple of road trips to B12 newcomers. That one is just a couple hours away and a de facto home game is a good outcome.

No, it’s glorious. Bellmont goes out of its way to be gracious, hospitable, amenable. Share revenue, even though you’ll always be a taker and not a giver? Sure! Appoint us as your rival, and focus efforts on us, even though we don’t have time for you? That’s the fun of the sport!

Try to endanger and cheat our fans, just because you want to? You’re on the list forever. Cautionary tales don’t work unless they have some bite, and sometimes the big friendly giant has to remind you that he’s a giant.

So, let's just get every Texas fan to not watch or go to any non-home games this season.

Almost like an aggy boycott, and just as likely to fail.

bleachergate would have been forgotten if fertitta hadn's pissed and moaned about the houston campus

aggy can buy other schools across the state, slap their logo on it, and there's no protest but god help us if we want to build a world-class international campus in a major city that would create tens of thousands of jobs

if the idiots wants to pass on an extra $25m from playing at nrg so they can prove a point by playing at robertson2, whatever

i still can't believe mcraven of all people rolled over when they bitched about the houston campus

What do you think we're doing by leaving the Big12?  I'd say that has some bite for those remaining.

Texas doesn't have the power here with regard to the schedule.  Until we're out of the conference, we play by the conference's rules.  Or I guess just forfeit because we're sad and stuff, which is a great look to our new conference mates in the SEC.

It would still be remembered.  But UH sure sounded like Houston A&M on that Houston campus deal.  They acted total 3rd ward aggy.

Pretty sure UT sold the land.

Eventually the medical center will head that way.  But that's the only way the land gets developed.  Its next to the old Holmes Road landfill.

Maybe they could have called it the Vince Young campus.  Its in the Madison high zone.

UH said it was a waste of public money to put another public school in Houston because Houston already has a public school and that any money for a UT campus in Houston should just go to UH.

As a reminder, this is when Wallace Hall and two of his cronies were still on the Board.  My understanding is that UT agreed to drop the campus in part so the legislature would not gum up the process of replacing those regents.

Yep dead as fuck, UH threw a huge fit and since UT bought the land “in secret” the legislature basically lampooned it and lobbed not so subtle threats as to what could happen if we went ahead with the plans. Basically nobody had a chance to line their pockets so they were pissed and sided with UH as it was an easy way to get back at UT.

The amount of cronyism in the Texas government is a fuckin clown show. And the straight up dysfunction and dick measuring that takes place from every school when it comes to anything UT is really fuckin tired......

Whether it be PUF, new system schools, conference affiliation.

And other schools act like Texas has an ego. For fuck sake.... Houston, you are not an academic peer to UT. And now the government boned the citizens of Houston because cougar high thinks they should be "THE" university in Houston. What a fuckin joke.
