I was born in Ft Worth, of parents who have Texas lineage to preAlamo years. Spent most of my youth as an expat, and then my career moved me all over. We have a Texas film thread going in Movie threads, thought we could do same for songs.

My list is not complete, just what’s coming to mind of tunes that made me homesick living elsewhere.

Whiskey River - Willie Nelson
Waltz Across Texas - Ernest Tubb
Little Bit is Better than Nada - Texas Tornados
Across the Alley From the Alamo - Asleep at the Wheel
New San Antonio Rose - Bob Wills
LA County - Lyle Lovett
Crazy Arms - Ray Price
Woman Across the River - Freddie King
Master of Sparks - ZZ Top
My Baby Don’t Dance to Nuthin but Ernest Tubb - Junior Brown
I Don’t Think Hank Done it This Way - Waylon Jennings
Does Fort Worth Cross Your Mind - George Strait
Texas Flood - Stevie Ray Vaughan
How do You Spell Love - Fabulous Thunderbirds

There’s a million of them.

Sweet. That’s another song the Dead covered.

This one’s long and slow.

And here’s a fully electrified version.

According to Deadbase, over the course of 30 years they only played it 45 times. But, as always, never the same way twice.

Too many great mentions in this thread, and imo the quintessential song that always makes me think "man, now THAT is Texas!" is definitely London Homesick Blues, but I'm surprised there aren't any mentions of one of my favorite Texas bands around right now--Mike and the Moonpies.

Cheap Silver and Solid Country Gold is an outstanding record.

Not nearly as substantive as most of the songs in here, it is still a road trip staple...especially summer trips.

Tune not Texas-Themed but artist damn sure is:

Willie doing a Cindy Walker song.  Doesn't get more Texas than that.

Another Cindy Walker song:  With a munch of folks.

And Miss Walker doing one of her own, made famous by Bob Wills.

I can see Kim strumming away on that gray Strat, and John doing the lead on his TV yellow double cutaway (maybe a Hamer?).

Like this!

Heard this song the other day and thought of this thread. Cracked me up.

I love that one.

"I'd sooner die a Sooner or a dumb ass Aggy than to die in the land of the Baylor Bear".  Wise words indeed.

Honorable mention has to go to this song.

If you watch the video and piece together the story basically Jimmy Buffet cuckolds an aggy.
