Any teachers up in this mother fucker?

Recommended Posts

Happy teacher's appreciation week. Thanks for putting up with my asshole kid, all the Karens, shithead admins, and all the other crap you deal with.

Only a month or so until summer. Keep your eyes on the prize.

Anyway, what would be a good, cheap (she's got 8 teachers, and I'm only surly 3%) gift for those poor bastards who have to teach her? I'm thinking 10 dollar gift cards from the local sonic. Wife suggested homemade cookies, but I know one of her teachers got the diabeetus.

Thoughts?

Wife is a teacher.  Gift cards.  Straight cash seems to be frowned upon, which I’ll never understand, because at the end of the day you’re just giving them money

We’ve collected cash every year. $20 bucks a head and it’s always $400-500+. The teacher is always appreciative.

Small town. No starbucks (although we do have an indy coffee shop), specs, or targets within 70 miles. Hence the Sonic gift cards.

edit: Also, spouses of teachers, please forward the rep. If anybody knows of any surly teachers, @ them so they can come in here and get their pos rep.

Teacher here.  Thanks for the acknowledgement.

Yes, gift cards are probably the best bet... even if the gift is thoughtful and awesome.  (I received my 4th Longhorn hat of the year yesterday.)

Hi! Teacher/counselor here. Gift cards are great-and Sonic is always a good one! Cookies are a sweet thought but with allergies, diabetes, etc. not always a super idea. Nice of y’all to recognize your child’s teachers!

High school teacher here. Gift cards are always appreciated. Sonic or Starbucks is good if you're keeping the amount small. If you want to spend some more, maybe from somewhere like Door Dash so they can get a couple of dinners delivered.

I had a neighbor ask me if they should get their kid's teacher some school supplies like markers, paper, etc. for Teacher Appreciation Week. That's a hard no.

We’ve got a drawer where the gift cards are stored.  Starbucks to Al Biernat’s and everything in between.  One of her kids a few years ago parents owned a CFA franchise and we have yet to run out of those.  The best was probably the time a case of really good wine just showed up on the front porch.  The grandparents owned the vineyard.

My wife is a high school special education teacher.  Most of the stuff she gets from students is random stuff that gets thrown away. Can’t donate it to the local Goodwill because most of her student’s families shop there.  Gift cards are definitely the best option.  Starbucks, Target, and Sonic are good.  We give my kid’s teachers a gift card for a pedicure.

Everyone suggesting cash or generic Visa cards, please don't do that. It's impersonal. You wouldn't do that for a friend or family member, so don't do it to the adult your kid spends the most time around (besides you).

Take a second to find out what the teacher likes and get that for them.

Year 15 for me. It’s getting harder and harder to stay in it. Seems like we’ve gone from being heroes to vilified again in two short years.

Crazy how difficult it is becoming. I coach and teach and not a day goes by that somebody isn’t mad about something and griping about us on social media, board meetings, or the media.

With that said, Amazon gift cards are the way to go.

We always make a gift basket with handmade cards from the kids, their favorite treats, and the envelope of cash in it.

Is that good enough, Miss Manners?

I like the restaurants.  Wife’s kid’s parents have good taste and we have discovered some new places. Summer is basically eat out for free due to teacher appreciation week at the end of the year.  The Amazon cards certainly are the most versatile.

Teachers just really want your kids (and their parents) to not be big-time assholes but in lieu of that gift cards are good.

I'm paying for the gift cards, I'm making the kid write the notes.

My wife is a teacher and Amazon gift cards are the easiest thing to use.  Especially for her, since she just gives them to me and tells me to figure it out.  The other gift cards are in a drawer and some are nice and some are to places we would never go, so we give those to parents and friends.  We got a Cabo Bob's gift card this year after my wife mentioned it in class, which was pretty thoughtful since some kid was paying attention and remembered.

Notes are the best ... although for teachers struggling with low pay perhaps gift cards and cash would be the best.  The best note talks about what the kid liked about the class and what impact the class has had on the kid.  We have a giant folder full of past notes.  Most of the notes are basically nice and talk about what a great class it was.  But occasionally we get a two or three pager from a kid who pours it out and talks about how the class changed their life and those are never thrown away.

I teach at a Title I school (low-income), so I don't get too many real nice gifts. But I do get some great notes. In fact I got one this morning from a mom of three former students thanking me for teaching all of her kids. The two oldest are in college now and the youngest is starting UT in the fall. Gotta say, it got pretty damn dusty in my classroom reading that one. Damn chalk dust.

And since this is surly, yes, the note would have been better if it was attached to a bottle of pinot. And it would definitely have been better with pics of the mom.

HS teacher/coach.  I don't usually get much of anything with monetary value.  But every year, including this year, I get a couple of notes from students in my mailbox.  It was probably some assignment, but some of them are obviously sincere. More often then not, the ones that thank me the most don't even mention the course work.  It's always about my classroom environment, and how they look forward to being there.  That is all I need in terms of appreciation.

Meanwhile, my wife spends a week getting gift bags ready for our ALL of our boys elementary school teachers, coaches, specialists, librarians, etc.  I think they are the ones that make a killing : )

Occasional faculty here. I don't need physical gifts. Instead, maybe walk up to some random admin figure, and cold-cock em upside their head.

Get your kids to record it on a phone, and then make it go viral on whatever app they've been looking at all damn day in class.
