Can we get enough Longhorn fans to the Nats game on either Friday night or Sunday afternoon to get the organ to play the Eyes of Texas?

And anyone have any best practices for how to get a 3-year old as gently as possible from Dulles to the State Dept.?  There's just no fucking good way to do this is there except me hauling the car seat my wife trusts and getting into an Uber and paying out the nose?

Only other option would be to take an Uber to Reston and then jump on the silver line down into DC (State Department is Foggy Bottom, teehee).  Depending on time of day it could cost less, but its probably $6-$9 per person per way.  They haven't finished building it to IAD yet so it stops about 4 miles short.    Coincidentally the silver and blue also go to FedEx, or at least closest.  Morgan Blvd stop is about a mileish walk away.

Outside that, you're kinda SOL unless you want to get a car service, which could be a little gentler and more consistent rates.  It will still be out the nose though, depending on how you define what comes out your nose.  I'd guess that trip on Uber is $50 if you're not in rush hour, when it could get ugly.   Car service is probably $80-$120 depending on size needed and won't alter with traffic.

It's a stadium that seats nearly 85,000 people.  Maryland is used to seating maybe 50,000 at its home games, and that's with a robust visiting team presence.

You'll have no issue whatsoever finding tickets at face value, or below, to this game.

Check out www.dctexasexes.org/texas-vs-maryland    They have a block of tickets they are selling for that series.

Regarding moving your toddler around- why not just rent a car?

Here is some helpful seating information that I found about being in the shade and restricted view seating with the higher rows in the 200's.

It's absurd that a stadium built in 1997 has obstructed view seating all over the place due to pillars. What a piece of shit stadium. Dan Snyder is the worst.

I've never driven a car in D.C. in all the times I've been there for business and I ain't about to start.  We looked at our itinerary and decided it was just best to leave the little one at our house with family watching her.  Will check out exes block for baseball, thanks!  I'm guessing Saturday would make for too long a day between pre-game, Maryland game, and then heading back out to Nats night game.  I'm liking Sunday so far for baseball.  I'm assuming based on map, that Nationals Park is balmy that time of year---not so much sunlight obviously but coastal humidity?  Thoughts?

At the Cowboy game last year, we ubbered to Fedex. Wasnt to much and we used uber x. Drove usmrigjt to the gate almost.
I kinda liked the older stadium for the NFL games. Beats the hell outta jerryworld corporate overload. Where we sat seats werent to bad. That annoying ass redskin band was gawdawful.

Only thing is, Dan Snyder didn't build it.  The Cooke family did.  Despite Dan Snyder being the worst.

1) I can understand why you don't want to drive in D.C., but a Saturday in early September isn't bad traffic-wise.  All the summer tourists will be gone by then, and traffic is usually okay.

2) The humidity is pretty bad through mid-September but really, the summer starts waning up there before ours relatively speaking.  Of course it could be 92° and soupy but the usual is more like early October in Austin.  It shouldn't be too awful unless they're in some heat wave or something.

That sucks they're having at RFK.

My cousin went to Maryland, and Iowa played out there in 2014.  My grandpa was a Hawkeye fan, and we took him out to that game knowing it was probably the last time he'd go to a game (it was).  The campus was pretty, and we had a pretty fun time tailgating.  The stadium was nothing to write home about, but it was a significantly better setting than a fucking NFL stadium out in some damn suburb.

*Fed Ex. RFK is a shithole that even the soccer club can’t play at anymore.

Couple fun things to go watch on Thursday and Friday nights in D.C.-area.  Redskins play at Ravens on Thursday night.  Colt should see some significant reps in that one.  And Stevie Wonder playing at the MGM national theater on Thursday & Friday as well.  Or maybe Nats on Friday night.  Any other hot tips from the board?

Side note on the MGM National Harbor casino: I’ve been a few times and it’s fairly new and quite nice. Not far from city center so accessible with rental car or Uber/Lyft. Would recommend for those who like poker (active room) and any table games or slots. Decent food court options with a Shake Shack, pizza, sushi, etc. plus some other higher end sit down restaurant choices. Would make for not a bad place to stay for the game if you were driving to Fedex. Also next to the massive Gaylord hotel/convention/shopping complex.

I quit gambling awhile back, but seeing Stevie Wonder in an intimate venue sounds awesome to me.  Does the casino have a good restaurant/bar scene besides gambling?  I'd like to make an evening of it if we go all the way out there from NW Penn area.

You can scan the restaurant list but there are plenty of good choices for food. Would recommend a reservation it will probably be very crowded on a concert night.

As for bars, there’s a nice sports bar/restaurant and a lobby bar and another few lounges in the casino as well as the usual video poker style bar. Should be packed on a concert night.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just decided to attend the game with my daughter (Texas-ex 2014; sorry no pics) and my son-in-law.  They live in Raleigh/Durham.  I am trying to decide if I want to drive from East Texas to DC and make a mini-vacation out of it or fly into RDU and ride up with them.  How is the normal tourist crowd around the National Mall during early September?

Yes, obviously.  I'm sure this is a cleverly-played insult that I don't get.  But my inquiry remains the same, I'm hearing more and more about this casino/venue and am anxious to get more information.  Also pre-game advice for the Nats/Brewers game on Sunday afternoon.  I've only been to D.C. on business and never had a chance to do anything fun (other than some museums).  Thanks.

So I'm late to the game planning this.  Traveling with my wife and 3 kids, aged 7, 5 and 3.  7 and 5 yr old boys likely gonna go to the game with me while wife and daughter go elsewhere.  Wife wants to stay in the nicest area to do touristy stuff in DC, where we can walk places and eat, etc.  We're driving in, so we have a car.  Wife will likely drop off and pick us up from game.  Wife is thinking Georgetown area is best to stay.  Thoughts?  Best source for tickets?

There are and will be plenty of tickets.

Personally, I wouldn't stay in Georgetown.  You can walk places but you won't have good access to the Metro lines.  Might want to consider staying in Dupont Circle or even closer to the White House for more walkability to touristy stuff.

Not thrilled with the noon start or the shitty NFL stadium but Nationals game on Friday and Phillies Cubs on Sunday combined with touristy stuff will make it a good trip.

Dude.  The touring version of Hamilton is in DC that weekend.

Snagged my 2 TexEx tix just before the early bird deadline tonight.  $30 a pop, lower tier somewhere from goal to 30 yl.  Sweet.

The other good news is I'll have my old house to stay in, not going to list it for sale until after Labor Day.  I'll be up in the D.C. area getting it fixed up for sale from mid-August through game weekend.

I'll check back here... gonna be a fun weekend going back to my old stomping grounds.   I'll see you bitches up there, maybe at the breakfast tailgate.  I'm going into campus the night before to eat and go ga-ga at the new coeds on campus, and Maryland holds up pretty well in hotness.  Not sure how many of 'em will go to the game since it's 12 miles from campus but there will be a lot of talent in the stands, trust me.  Maryland will be well-prepared, I think.  But if Texas finally fucking measures up even a little to its usual overhype, they'll come away with the W.

Then i pile shit from the house into the U-Haul and halftrack it back to Austin for 2 days.  Blech.  But the entire weekend will be awesome, and as i said, I'll be coming off an almost 3-week stay up there.

Any of you HOMOS [/ighten up, Francis] up there, maybe I'll see you.

I’ll be in NYC for a pub crawl on Thursday. 20 drinks in 20 bars (four per borough) is the goal. Train to DC on Friday. Hitting the town on Friday night. Can we designate a place where we might see from friendly faces?

CSB: Last time I was in DC visiting a chick, we were walking the city one afternoon and I saw a missing poster for Chandra Levy. I noticed she had been missing for at least a week, maybe two. I looked at my lady friend and said, “She’s dead.”, A week or so later that same photo was all over the national news after she was linked to Senator Gary Condit.

Wasn't the $30 early bird ticket just for the tailgate?  The only TexEx game ticket I saw was either 70 or 105 depending on if you were in the upper or lower deck.

If I am wrong, I still know what love is.

Ha ha, no you're right, I Gumped it.  That's just for the Tx-Exes tailgate, which I still want to go to.

Snagged 2 lower level ($105) tix today to sit with the Texas fans.  Do I feel like an Ohio State grad right now?  Yes, yes I do.

Nevertheless, I'll see you schmos up there.

Yeah that seemed awfully low, but I thought they got some super deal since the stadium's so big and I doubt Maryland will half fill it up.  Call me stupid and give me a Ben-Gay wedgie.  But I'll be there in the Idiot section.

Staying in Georgetown and wife gonna drop me and my 5 and 7 yo sons off for the game. First (of many) CFB and longhorn games for my boys. Haven't taken the boys to a tailgate before. Advice for this one re: pregame options with the little ones? Trying to gauge how early I should go.

If last year’s USC game is a barometer, make sure you bring your own beer if you want to drink.
