Ah okay, shows what I know about the electric Jeeps (which is, apparently, nothing :) ).

There are likely some Youtube videos out there that show you what to do, that's how I figured mine out.  I had to disconnect the muffler at both ends to get enough room to slide in the hitch, bolt it up, and then reconnect the muffler.

I had one of those cargo baskets on my Tahoe, worked fine for holding ice chests or whatever.  It wasn't a name brand, just some Amazon cheapie.

That's what I'm thinking... one of those Amazon ones.  I may be too close to "go time" to do it all.  Like I said, the cargo space is disappointing.  Going to have to put my packing skills to work, as usual.  I'll pack all my stuff into a reasonably sized bag, think I'm killing it and then see my wife's bag!?

  • 2 months later...

Been slowly getting her back into shape.  I had a stuck door latch that I replaced and now the passenger door is actually functional. Never a daily driver.  In fact, at my recent inspection I checked mileage and had only driven 3000 miles from January 23 until May.  Tires were VERY old so I finally got some new ones today.  Replacing stereo this weekend.  Having a blast driving her again. 99 and I'm the orignal owner.  134,000 miles.

That classic Cherokee was absolutely bulletproof. Had a 93 Cherokee and bought the 89 Commanche (pickup version) twice. The same vehicle - sold it to Dad and bought it back a few years later. I miss it.  The issue I can remember was around 98-00. The straight six was bulletproof until Jeep botched the building of the block somehow. There was a know issue where the block cracked because of how it was made. Jeep still hasn't found a real replacement for either the Cherokee (4 door Wrangler is closest) or that 4L engine.  They could bring the 2000 Cherokee back right now with only a couple of mods (touchscreen etc) and probably sell every one.

I would get one. My first was a 1986. Loved it, but sold it when I went overseas.

It is a work in progress, but I don't mind. Wife tries to convince me to let her have it. She is in the field all the time at work. Then I remind her it does not have AC and refuses to drive to Oklahoma (one of her field sites) and she balks.

Will drive it until the Jeep dies.

Only issue I am running into is finding replacements for the interior pieces. Need to go hit some junk yards one of these days.

Still mad about missing an absolute one of a kind around 2015. I was in Austin and it was back here in Huntsville. 1995 Limited with 40K. Price was about 4500 - which was reasonable back then. Tried to get it at Thanksgiving but it was "sold". Apparently they didn't follow thru. At Christmas I saw it still there and went in. Salesman said a guy was coming down in an hour but I was next. Missed it again.
