welp, this should be interesting. this next hire and how Nill assembles next year's team will pretty tell whether he gets extended after next season. I'm still on team Nill. Based on the prospect we have we might have another class of 2017 lurking in the minors with some of the talent we have brewing. But I still think if we don't go deep into the playoffs next year, he might be out.

Nah, he’ll be somewhere next season, just not sure as a HC.

That was my 2nd guess. Assistant coach in any major league is such a great gig. Like a backup QB in the NFL.

It’s specifically spelled out in the link.

The Sabres add the final year of Bishop's contract, which represents nearly a $5 million cap hit to boost their payroll closer to the NHL's $60 million minimum. Buffalo, which also acquired a seventh-round pick in next month's draft, was projected to be nearly $20 million under the cap floor before acquiring Bishop.

This is an enormous hire and Nill has to get this one right. They have maybe the best young goalie in the league and several young up and coming talents. They need a guy who can keep the defense sound while getting the offense upright to league respectable. And big bonus points if he can get Segin to become the scorer he was and got paid to be.

Most of the head coaching candidates won't commit to the Stars unless Gagliardi assures them that Nil will be here for their year 2.  Trotz, Tocchet and Savard all supposedly made that a condition.  Not sure which other candidates were that specific, but they are all reluctant to trust their second season to a GM that didn't hire them. He should extend Nil and hire Trotz, who would kill it in Dallas with the strong defenders and young playmakers.

I think it's more of an ultimatum, win big and go deep in the playoffs or you're gone.  He's probably the best choice among the coaches who can't command guarantees from the owner.   DeBoer has a history of first season success and then not being able to follow up on in the next couple of years.  A very meh hiring, IMO.

Maybe we'll get him some pads by next season.

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has signed goaltender Scott Wedgewood to a two-year contract extension worth $2,000,000 with an annual average value (AAV) of $1,000,000. The contract will run through the 2023-24 season.

Wedgewood, 29, split the 2021-22 season between New Jersey, Arizona and Dallas, posting a 13-15-6 record with a 3.14 goals-against average, .910 save percentage and one shutout in 37 regular-season appearances. The goaltender was acquired by Dallas via trade from Arizona in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2023 NHL Draft on March 20, 2022. Wedgewood appeared in eight games with the Stars, posting a 3-1-3 record, a 3.05 GAA and a .913 SV%. In 77 career NHL regular-season appearances, Wedgewood has earned a 23-33-14 record, a 3.11 GAA, a .906 SV% and five shutouts.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Brampton, Ontario was originally selected by New Jersey in the third round (84th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft.
