Andor

Wow. What a finale. So perfect.

The post-credit Death Star thing was very fan-servicy. I wonder if that was something that Gilroy did or if it was interested after the fact.

He said he was going to go back on The Watch podcast after Season 1 was done airing for another interview… looking forward to hearing that.

And Season 2 can’t get here soon enough!

The finale didn’t really have a big payoff and was kind of confusing to me, but it didn’t diminish the series at all. I loved it. This just felt like a mid-season finale.

For a moment I thought Andor might cap Bix. I mean, her brain is totaled now right? She’s of no real use any more. I guess even Andor isn’t that cold.

Who was bomb maker kid? Was he just supposed to be a metaphor for the rebellion?

I still find it strange that Andor would return, especially once he realized that Ferrix was crawling with imperials who were looking for him. I guess it was just a pure Bix rescue mission.

The kid was the son of the owner of the shop where Bix would go up to send messages to Luthen. The owner was taken in by the ISB, was tortured, and hanged. The kid was looking at a hologram of his dead when he was building the bomb. That explosion was fantastic. Gilroy does such a good job with gritty battle scenes, Reminds me of the one in Rogue One with Saw's insurgency.

Why would Andor kill Bix? She's in ISB custody because of him. Everything that happened was because of his actions. So when he came back for the funeral and learned Bix was captured from the ship junkyard owner, he had to attempt to bust her out as again this was all his fault.

He didn't know Ferrix was crawling with Imperials until he got there and spoke to Brasso.

I doubt Gilroy does this but it would be great if one of Andor's missions next season is killing the torture doctor or letting Bix do it.

Pretty sure I saw that Bix is signed on for season 2.

I think Andor was aware that Luther and his hot female thugs would be there and he wanted to confront them.  Andor is savage but not that savage.  He has some honor to him

Cassian looked surprised when he spotted Luthen. I don't think them being after him crossed his mind in his decision to go back but yea once he saw him there he quickly figured out why.

He had told his mom he would be back when he couldn't get her to leave and then he wasn't there for her death.  There had to be some guilt with that.

I was really tired and struggling to stay awake and obviously I missed a LOT.

The thing about this show is that it is so much more nuanced and purposeful than anything that the Mouse has ever put out and frankly I wasn’t ready for it. Their usual fare is spoon fed and I assumed I could watch this show with the same level of (in)attention. Wrong. Every minute that a character is on screen can be and often is important later on.

I look forward to watching the whole thing again and really focusing on it. There’s a lot to digest. And I’ll have time because I read that it will be two years before season 2.

Just saw an ad for Andor and it was all tie fighters and star destroyers lol. Some folks gonna tune in and be disappointed, but hopefully it grabs them.

Lol maybe they'll pay attention to what they watch before they decide it's not good, because it sounds like you're talking about your first viewing experience

It’s currently airing on ABC to drum up interest. I don’t think network TV viewers are its audience.

I think that if you put the quality actors that you have in this series...whether its Shakespeare, Star Wars, or any writing .... I would probably watch it.

Amen.  Give me anything with Stellan Skarsgård, Diego Luna, Fiona Shaw, Genevieve O'Reilly, Denise Gough, and Forest Whitaker, and I’m there. And hell, toss in Kyle Soller and Adria Arjuna as well. I have a nostalgia for the original trilogy, but hands down this group of actors blows all other Star Wars movies and shows out of the water, and it’s not even close.

We thought we were getting a Cassian Andor series, but we also got a Luthen Rael series, and a Mon Mothma series as well.

Rewatched the finale again tonight and a couple of small subtleties I noticed:

- when we hear Karis Nemik’s manifesto the night before the funeral, it ends with one word: “try”. Interesting the juxtaposition years later to yoda training Luke after the rebellion is in full swing “Do or do not. There is no try.” I want to believe that was intentional and also very badass.

- there is a great symbolism in the two marching bands converging from different parts of the village ending up all together before marching toward the ISB and stormtroopers. The tune they play also goes from being played out of tune with one another to being in tune (in additional to the tonal crescendo).

Star Wars theory hating on the show means this is some of the best stuff that has ever been released. I know it’s kinda random but lately there’s been negative reviews on the show that are built on the dumbest reasons. I respect everyone’s opinion of the show, but it’s really hard to when you say that seeing bricks takes the Star Wars feel out of the show.

That guy is a fucking dipshit.

Anyone who complains that Andor "nEEdS mOar ACtIOn" either doesn't get the show or hasn't been paying close enough attention.

Action/violence doesn't have to be all "pew pew".

That scene where Mon Mothma knee-caps her dipshit husband in the back of the car just to create some cover for herself WAS "action."

He’s turned into literal dog shit the past couple of years, and I’m fine with him getting clowned for his awful takes. He thinks the show is slow for the purpose of wanting to be slow without any real meaning going on between the characters. It sucks because when he first started out he was a cool, down to earth guy that loved Star Wars.

He’s not the only one, there’s been a few other YouTubers that used to have entertaining shows and then their brains broke and the things they hated in other shows are not in Andor, but they can’t let go of what is bothering them about other shows.

He and his mans are just mad that Pablo Hidalgo dunked on them for 12 episodes and the other reviewers like New Rockstars and Screencrush wouldnt stop rubbing it in.  Not sure why they would double down on something Grace Randolph said.

You hear things like “it’s too slow“ and “it doesn’t feel like Star Wars” or “ I’m not invested in any of these characters”

yeah, it's good...unlike most of Star Wars released in the last 30 years.

I thought that too but K2SO is very black and white. He's not very empathetic or sensitive. Plus, they already did that trick with uploading the robot into the MF in Solo.

also K2SO has an already developed backstory: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/K-2SO

Quote

K-2SO was one of the KX-series security droids assigned to the Imperial stormtrooper detachment on the planet Wecacoe. K-2SO heard a noise near a decommissioned Imperial cruiser. There he encountered Rebel agent Cassian Andor and arrested him. K-2SO and Andor then fought each other until Kertas and Rismor found his kill switch. Cassian then attempted to wipe K-2SO's memory clean.[6]

However, only 29.73% of K-2SO's memory had been erased, and he then strangled Cassian. Kertas and Rismor were able to turn him off again. Cassian gave K-2 new orders to lead him, Kertas, and Rismor back to their ship. K-2 stated he would "take out" anyone who interfered with them.

He escorted Cassian and the twins as his prisoners, but came under attack by several stormtroopers. He, the twins, and Cassian attacked the troopers.[6]

As the K-2SO's group got to their vehicle, stormtroopers surrounded it, and K-2 attempted to arrest Andor again. As Rismor drew the troops away, Kertas told Cassian to take K-2SO because he had the intel they needed. After Cassian's ship was destroyed, K-2 still had 8.3% of his memory and tried to decide to either terminate or arrest Cassian. Cassian removed the base layer of his programming and shut him down. K-2 turned on and took out the stormtroopers. K-2 and Andor then found a ship. Together, they made their escape.[6]

Pretty interesting.

I don't recall ever seeing that Andor/K2 comic following Rogue One, but (for now) it's officially canon, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle it with Andor Season 2.

I could see Star Wars officially removing that comic book from canon so that Gilroy can do whatever he wants with the meeting of Andor and K2, given its importance to the overall story.

Kathleen Kennedy Tony Gilroy broke a lot of brains out there.

Not sure why you feel the need to stan for Kennedy after she objectively fumbled multiple aspects of SW from the sequels, to poorly writing Hahn/Luke/Leia, to running through directors like a Russian general. Want to give her credit for 7/8/9? Fine. But to give her credit for Andor is reaching.

it is incredible how the whole creative team knocked this series out of the fucking park.  incredible writing, acting, directing, music, and editing. the tiniest of details were planned and executed like how the intro music got more complex as the series progressed and how the intro music IS the music played at the funeral march. every shot and story was deliberately told to show the character progression of Andor from a thug thief to a rebel.

his story is mirrored by Syril. Syril's pursuit of Andor kicked off the actions which made Andor become who he is at the end of this seaon. Syril is the poster boy for the empire's quest for order through control. Syril shares a similar character growth, but with opposite path. one becomes rebel dedicated to fighting the empire and the other becomes an empire agent dedicated to enforcing the empire's will.

there are 2 really good youtube channels which offer amazing insight to this show.

Screen crush is great.

Generation Tech goes even deeper into the stories. It's basically a dude talking but so much insight into the characters and the story lines.

Yes, I love watching Screen Crush. Usually do that for everything he puts out except House of Dragons as he's a bit spoiler-ish on other subjects. He has great insights on a lot of the shows and calls it pretty fair like his proper criticism of Book of Boba Fett.

Because it's funny. She authorized Andor therefore she gets credit. She brought Gilroy in to clean up Rogue One. She put him in the Star Wars universe. Therefore, credit. She triggers people like you and I love that.

This is a bad rationalization. So Kennedy sucks shit through a straw, but that's ok because then you can troll because of it? Very weak and disappointing coming from you. Just enjoy Andor for how good it is, and leave the weak CR-esque shit out of it.

GT had been very good with his Andor vids and he does seem to really get a lot of the deeper aspects of the show. I also recommend.

She has been president of LucasFilm since 2012.  So she's ultimately responsible for literally everything Star Wars since then.

But of course in fanboys' hive mind, she gets blamed for everything they hate (sequel trilogy, Boba, Obi-Wan) but none of the credit for everything they love (Mando, Clone Wars, Andor) because... reasons.

Possible spoiler I guess, but I saw a YT video that theorizes that

Spoiler

Luthen is a Jedi. Early on Vel says something to the effect of “We will never discuss what he is.” He carries that staff thingy. His spaceship basically had lightsabers on it. And he has that kyber crystal on a chain.

And he shares his dreams with (Force) ghosts.

But I think he’s probably not.  Gilroy was trying to avoid fan service and avoid too many tropes or whatever you want to call them.
