Haven’t checked in on this thread in awhile.  Damn, my boat has been laid up for months with an exhaust issue.  Mechanic promises next week.  I’ve hardly boated in the last few years.  I mean I’ve been to the boat a lot, but trips have been hard to come by.  I really want to change that next year.  Otherwise what am I doing with this thing other than piss money into it?

I feel your pain right now. Just got really bad news and now it looks like I need to replace one engine. To do that is a major job - they have to cut into the decking in the salon and basically remove the back window/wall too. The cost of doing that makes it to where I might as well replace both engines while I’m at it. Going to lose about 2 months of the fishing season too. Fuck.

It’s a little unclear what caused the initial problem. I figured I’d get at least 5 more years out of the current engines. Some combination of bad luck, mechanic error changing the cooling pump a few months ago and not changing the oil when he did it, and someone running the boat and not noticing the oil pressure dropping. So here we are with metal (n the port engine.

That freaking sucks. If you end up back home and want to fish, lmk. We are very hands on and by no means professional.

Thanks man. We definitely should go grab a beer sometime.

Damn hookit that’s rough. Your survey didn’t mention any engine issues I guess?

Clean survey including oil samples. But this really had nothing to do with the engine. It was a mistake made by somebody. We will not be using the same mechanic again and I’ve demoted the captain that was running the boat back down to first mate. No way to tell for sure who was at fault and it was likely a combination of both. I also share some of the blame for promoting a guy to captain who really wasn’t quite ready for the job. Tough and very expensive lesson to learn.

Ouch...

I don't know if modern pleasure craft can, "keel haul" someone like back in the day but I would be tempted to try and find out.

After a few shots of tequila, could be said about most of Surly.

60 years ago in Mexico I once did 11 tequila shots in about an hour, and almost banged a visiting gringa chick from UT who was 6’5” tall.
While muff diving, I noticed a tampon string hanging out of her twat.
Luckily, the reality of what was about to happen sobered me up like a bucket of cold water.

Sorry for the interruption, please carry on.
