The Boat Fanatic Thread

I put a note about this in the travel page. But I did not see a video of it back when I was just using my phone. We saw this sailing yacht, owned by Roman Abramovich, when we were in St. Tropez last month. It was there at our beach for the day. It was an incredible sight to see, even from at least a couple thousand yards away. Unfortunately we did not see it with its sails up, which would have been an incredible thing to see.

Test drive tomorrow on the 247, should be interesting since my whole life has been an in/out or outboard. Yes I heard about the right drift. Owner wont be there, just myself.

Pray for me.

Only real difference is reverse is pretty much a straight line deal with a drift depending on the prop rotation and slow speed maneuverability comes with practice. You have to use forward/reverse shifts and momentum to maneuver. Once you get used to it you can pretty well spin the boat on a dime by using the throttle and it becomes easier to move than most other types. All that goes out the window in the wind, it can be a bitch.

You also have to be thoughtful about all the running gear being under the boat and things you can and can’t do because of that.

Our boat house is on a north shore so lots of wind. About 2 miles of water behind us.

Are you the poster from TOS that was just learning to sail? Started off around the keys? I think? How long has it been and what sort of experiences have you had out on the blue water?  I love the cat! Very nice.

Yeah that was probably us. We started learning about 2 years ago, bought the boat 18 months ago and have been living aboard and fixing shit since then. We've been in SW FL the entire time.

Keep forgetting to get pictures of my boat doing boat like things, but here it is just washed after a day at the lake. Kids and nephews rode the skate and the surf board more than tubes for the first time in a while. My nephews are working on surface tricks on the skate which is always entertaining. Still thinking I may put it up for sale and see if there is any interest at the end of the month.

Looking good.

Question re speed, polars, etc.  when does the jib come down/stay up?  Is it angle or velocity or?

That's all the sort of things we are figuring out now. Generally in W/L it stays up in anything over 14 or so.

Yeah that's not a tough to figure out what happened there, Mr. Reporter guy.

Also, fenders up!
People who don't do this is always a nice warning to give a wide berth.

Repair update:

Finally had time to replace every bit of rubber in the boat fuel system. 12ft of hose  and a jigsaw later it’s done.

Anti-Siphon valve is stuck on and won’t budge so having a shop sway that on Monday. After that, that will be everything except a new tank from the outboard back.

This better fucking work!

The boats in puerto Vallarta are sick sick sick. I’d love to live down here and anchor for a Sunday afternoon with fiends in a cove like this:

You should google maps look at Monaco and take a look int he harbor to see some sick boats.  South of France is mega yacht country.

Hey, bass boat fellers.  I've stumbled onto an estate sale situation and would like your input.  2009 Champion 190 CX with a 200 hp Yamaha.  Garage kept and fished out of about 15 to 20 times a month up to 8 months ago when owner got too frail to take it out.  Maintenance records all look good.  Tandem axle trailer and all the peripherals go with the boat (batteries, chargers, Lowrance, PFDs, etc.).  $19,000.  Jump on it or say no thanks?

My dream is to spend a couple of years cruising Mexico. Know quite a few people who've done it. Sailed to Cabo and back when I was a teen. But the Sea of Cortez and mainland Mex have some great cruising grounds. Gets really hot though. Not sure I'll be able to sell the wife on it. May be decision time when retirement rolls around.

Getting ready to head to Catalina in the am with 4 other HS buddies. Likely to be a bit of a shitshow. But fun. Weather is expected to be perfect. Hope I can snag a mooring. Southern Cross is locked and loaded.

Is it time for the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer?

Weekend of September 5-7.  They started a “Step Brothers” themed Catalina Wine Mixer about 4 years ago, showing the movie at the Casino theater on Friday night and having a rager for 3 days out there.

https://www.visitcatalinaisland.com/event/catalina-wine-mixer®-2019/1928/

but it’s UCLAs home opener against SDSU, so I’ll be mainland bound.  But I want to do this.
