Was an absolute beast and one of my favs! Just googled him and looks like he had a rough post career, including a mental health evaluation, rough looking mug shot. You have to believe he had CTE problems from all the pounding he took. RIP. Too young.

Damn... was he even 40?

He was such a fun player to watch. Has the greatest 2 yard run in NFL history to his name.

Same season romo ran for that first down vs the Rams after the snap went 40 yards over his head. Fun cowboys team to watch. RIP Marion

Sure they do. Most live long lives. Some, and very few, don’t. He was 38. Most RBs don’t die at 38.

The Collin County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled that former Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber III died of heat stroke, according to a copy of the autopsy report obtained by USA TODAY Sports on Monday.

His death was ruled an accident.

Barber, 38, was found dead in a Dallas apartment on June 1. According to an incident report released by the Frisco Police Department, officers were called to the scene after another tenant in the apartment complex reported water was leaking from Barber's unit. Apartment staff were subsequently unable to contact Barber, and the unit was locked from the inside.

According to the autopsy report, one of the bathtub faucets in Barber's apartment was running when officers arrived, and the unit's thermostat was set to 91 degrees with the heat set to "on." Officers also found exercise equipment in the unit.

So he was doing like a hot workout then hitting an ice bath or something?

First part sounds right. Rough way to go.

“Mr. Barber was known to exercise in sauna-like conditions,” the coroner wrote in his report.

In his own apartment? That had to stink like hell. I’d hope he had enough money for a special part of the apartment that he could clean and vent after. What a damn tragedy, no need to overdo shit like that it would seem to me.

Up to 6 fucking days in there.

Police confirmed that family members had not heard from Barber for six days prior to the date his body was found.

Sources told the Star-Telegram last month that Barber’s decomposed body was found in the bathroom of his apartment and may have been there for several days.

Sources said police went to his apartment to do a welfare check after residents reported water leaking from his unit.

Barber’s father, Marion II, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that his son’s body had been badly decomposed by the time police found him.

“They are just using tissue as they dig further into the cause of death,” Marion II said last month. “They are ruling out things. They haven’t seen any trauma, no foul substances in his body. His lungs were in working order. The heart and veins around the heart were good. They are ruling things out. Right now, we are just waiting.”

The wait is over. And his family and friends can be at peace knowing that Barber’s death was ruled an accident.

Police noted in the incident report that Barber “was known to have a history of medical problems and mental health concerns.”

“There had been so much talk and so many rumors about the cause of death,” said Russell Flannigan, a close friend and father figure to Barber in Dallas. “This could have happened to anyone.”

I mean it was clearly a weird accident but I've never given myself heat stroke in my own apartment.
