Talked with an older relative who is a Trump, and I asked why so many people who had direct access to Trump, or were just one level away from him, keep saying all of this stuff that makes him look bad.

The response was “they’re idiots”.

I told him you can hire one or two people who do stupid things, and they are idiots, but to borrow a saying, if you hire a bunch of idiots, then you’re the idiot.

I recall how trump was going to hire nothing but the best people when he won in 2016. Then as most of them ultimately left the WH, trump would do nothing but tweet and say how bad they were.

In all his life and past experience his hire's IQ has no bearing on success.

What was more important was their loyalty and his being born with more money than anyone he was fighting with.

That won't work now, thankfully.

He's apparently absolutely terrible at hiring people.

Which makes me wonder if his game show was rigged.  Nah, no way...

I'm surprised this person even admitted that the hearings were making him look bad, or that they even exist at all.

And said "idiots" rather than "liars."  It's getting harder for them to run from the truth.  But run they will.

I remember Trump talking about how big an idiot Rex Tillerson was after he left... you know, the guy that was in charge of one of the largest multi-national oil companies on the entire planet. Just a big ol' dummy apparently. Didn't know anything.

I recall when he said he was going to be too busy working to have time to play golf.

I saw Hunter Biden trending last night and figured something big is coming today. Anyone got a TLDR?

Some mashed up, highly edited video of him going around reddit showing him having a lot of fun with drugs and whores.  I'm not sure why they think that would make us like him less.

Oh I'm sure it was bullshit but usually they try to drum up Hinter Biden outrage when they know something bad is on the horizon for Trump

It would appear that while Bannon's counsel is laying down all the bullshit, they have honestly advised their client that he's going down and should prepare his anus.

And that explains Bannon's sudden willingness to testify, predicated on the fictitious waiver of privilege from Trump.

Yup that's what I'm reading. Bannon agreed to testify in an attempt to save his ass and the DOJ said it won't work.

Will be interesting to see if he still testifies after they are done with him.

so in a situation like this, just saying "fine, i'll talk" wouldn't satisfy the committee's needs and get his problems to disappear, right?  if he's cooperating to save his ass, then wouldn't lying/holding out just irritate the situation further?  i would think he'd have to give up some goods to get in better graces, but what do i know?

bigger picture - if things happening with the 1/6 committee are being referred to the doj to deal with it, what is worse for bannon?  defying the subpoena and telling them to fuck off?  or coming in and lying his ass off?

looking back, the play should've been to come in as early as possible, and lay down a bunch of vague bullshit.  coming in now, after the committee has collected a ton of facts and corroborated them, it seems a little dicey.  i understand that would've required some forethought and mental capacity, so lol i guess.

Hope they really hammer him and sentence him to a shower.  Make it as painful as they can.

So the Hearing tomorrow is “white boy” day . . .
The committee is expected to make the case that the Trump administration had connections to militia groups like the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys—whose leaders face seditious conspiracy charges—and that a tweet from former President Donald Trump was the "siren call" that catalyzed those groups to attempt to block the certification of the 2020 election.

"People are going to hear the story of that tweet, and then the explosive effects it had in Trump world and specifically among the domestic violent extremist groups—the most dangerous political extremists in the country at that point," Representative Jamie Raskin told CBS' Face the Nation on Sunday.

they refused to participate in any serious way - putting up jordan, etc for the spots.  but it was actually their only move.  if they took it seriously and put up people that would actually do their jobs, then that would acknowledge the committee was legit and purposeful, which would've been real real bad considering some things we now know.

that's another reason that having cheney and kinzinger leading the way, interviewing exclusively trump associates/other republicans, is the correct move.  at this point, it's not even bi-partisan.  it's mostly partisan with all republicans involved.

for someone who knows better than me, when did all the congressional grandstanding and jackassery start?  were their some nixon supporters in congress spraying nonsense all over those hearings for 5 minutes every hour?

It's a desperation move.

It is not going to serve as a defense in the criminal contempt trial, the offense was complete in October 2021, when the final, extended deadline to comply passed without compliance.

It might, if he is forthcoming with the committee, mitigate his punishment somewhat.  This judge seems pretty hardcore, though, and may not be swayed.

It’s being reported that Cipollone confirmed Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony and video from his interview will be presented during tomorrow’s hearing.

This is actually really smart.  Would Netflix or another large production company be willing to take the political "heat" for making it happen though?

Interesting thread about all the groups involved with the Christian Nationalist Party, which apparently applied for some demonstration permits during the week of Jan 6. Long thread, but some interesting political groups involved, and  of course

Spoiler

Ginni

is involved.

Everyone needs to read that thread. It does a pretty good job showing how the Council for National Policy (CNP) or as he says the Christian Nationalist Party- yes, he made that term up, but it's a pretty good one, was extremely well organized, was not only a huge part of Jan 6, but also helped get Kavanaugh confirmed among a shit ton of ther things. Also, Ginni Thomas is a huge contributor.

Crazy evangelicals are scarily mobilized.

For pretty obvious reasons as a legal council - you wouldn't want to do this live. The video tape is just as good for the record we don't need the circus.
