Premiers tonight...in about 30 minutes.  Based on the Tony Hillerman Navajo tribal police novels.  I've never read any but my mom loved them.

I liked the pilot.  The landscapes were gorgeous and I liked the rez stuff and some of the medicine/religion stuff.  The old cars were cool too, especially the GMC cop suburban.

it was okay.  it kind of had a cheesy, made for tv movie look to it.  script was weak, acting wasn't great.

Damn sounds like it really sucks, wouldn't want to waste time on that.

The finale was last night.  I thought it was a pretty good series overall.  I liked the 3 cop characters and agent Stan going bad was fun.  It's unfortunate that the cave scenes in the finale looked pretty cheaply done.  It was renewed for a 2nd season so it'll be back sometime next year.

I like the show, but I agree, they got shafted by the white man on the budget.

Tells you something when even Robert Redford and George RR Martin couldn’t convince the network to put more money into this.

I wish the flashbacks were more pronounced than they are. It was really confusing but then I figured out that the story wasn't linear. I don't know how far back it was when his son died to when Anna died but they made it too subtle that they were flashing back in the story.

I think they gave it a chance to be made. It might not have gotten off the ground otherwise.

I've got opinions about this show... it is rated 100% on rotten tomatoes and it's an AMC show.  I see that and I think wow, AMC made breaking bad and better call saul and even they didn't get 100%, that means this show has to be amazing.  well, it's not that great and most of the time seems like it was written and filmed by students; it is nowhere close to what vince gilligan produces.  if breaking bad is major league baseball this show is intramural coed softball at texas a&m.  and I get it, it used indigenous writers and indigenous actors and so it's very, very important.  whatever.  the critics can still admit that the show is flawed and it's disingenuous of them not to do so.

I've got opinions on an entertainment rating site that doesn't tell you anything about the sample size when you click on "see score details."

It's not as good as Breaking Bad, but I suspect that you're probably the only person using that criteria as a benchmark.

I also have opinions about Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin being compared to intramural coed softball and/or "students."

how involved do you really think they were?  the show is not well-made.  and rotten tomatoes is simply a quick way to access multiple reviews.  and seeing that not a single critic gave a sub-standard rating to a show that is very clearly sub-standard is irritating.

I don't agree that it was sub-standard, aside from certain aspects the cave set looking like a cheap museum display.

I think it was at least standard, if not super-standard, supra-standard, sur-standard, or even meta-standard.

Apparently they were pretty involved in getting the show green lit... but clearly their star power wasn't enough for a bigger budget.

Solid show. I read all of the Hillerman books. I love this shit. I want a show on the Fleck book.  I think it was talking god? I love Hillerman.

We were going to watch but wife looked it up on Does the Dog Die and it said yes so we’re not watching.

Can someone tell me the circumstances of the dog’s demise? I mean she cries for the rabid dog in to kill a mockingbird and no way did she let our son see Old Yeller.

The dog converts to Islam and flies a plane into the World Trade Center.

It figures. You’d have thought that flight school would have been a bit suspicious of a collie in a hijab wanting flying lessons

i'm getting the warm feeling that this season is going to be better than the first.

I think it would be impossible for this not to be the case.

Season two is much improved and IMO that’s saying something! One peeve is the staging. Way too many of the buildings, especially the “rich folks” houses are just way too modern for the 70’s. I guess it’s my building background, but high end windows, doors and finishes from today in houses that are supposed to be in the early 70’s. That stuff wasn’t even close to being on the horizon back then. The 70’s were all about aluminum single pane, paneling, and shag carpeting. Not high end Southwest design! Also not enough rayon or polyester…It really was a strange time in America.

Just watched both seasons, and I really liked it.  Loved the casting.  Zahn McClarnon is always great.

Yeah, the cheapness of the production shows -- they just don't have the budget to fully "go back in time" to capture all the architecture and such of the early 70s in the southwest.  They filmed most of it around Santa Fe and Tesuque, and I'm pretty sure I even recognized some of the structures.  That said, I've spent time in that area for a long time, including the 70s, and truly the architecture and look hasn't changed much at all.  So, that's not a big knock on things.  The use of a Suburban as a police vehicle isn't really authentic, although I kinda want an old Suburban now.

Frankly, the cheapness of the production kind of reminds me of older shows (TV shows just didn't have big production budgets back in the 70s and 80s).  It's more actor and character driven, and I like that.

I dig it, am looking forward to season 3.

1st episode of the new season was Sunday.  I thought it set up some interesting stories.  And I still love just seeing all the landscapes.  I wasn't expecting the GRRM and Redford cameos.  "George, the whole world is waiting.  Make a move"

I don’t remember plastic t-shirt bags being widely used in the mid 70’s, and pretty sure the term “Human trafficking” wasn’t a thing. Stuff like that throws me off in shows set in another time. Peeve I guess

Federally “trafficking” is a term that was frequently used internally, especially in border states. Smuggling and trafficking were interchangeable and in common use with CBP, DEA and USAOs back then.

The term Coyotes and chicken hawking rose during that time.
