That's a lot of guns pointing at a small child.  I don't think that sends the message they think it's sending.

Basic safety violation aside, that picture is just sad AF. Consider the effort it would take to safely store that many fucking guns and keep them from rusting. Then look at the house, deck, BBQ... This guy neglects his whole life to acquire guns.

I find that picture sad that he thought it would be cool to spend the few hours laying all of those guns out, including putting some on the roof. Not to mention that you know he rearranged them over and over.

I was thinking about that when I saw the picture, but I've got no experience with the maintenance of a gun. Could you ballpark an annual cost to maintain that kind of arsenal? And does it look like he does that (can you even tell from a pic?)?

And that’s the dividing line that I just can’t understand: the line between gun owner and “proud gun guy.” I’ve owned firearms my entire life. I don’t own nearly that many, and even what I do have….I’d never lay them out in a display like that.
My guns are just another of my possessions tied to an activity I enjoy. I also like watching sports, cooking, and reading, but none of those things define me. My guns are in a safe. My TVs are where it’s convenient to watch them, and they aren’t on 24/7. My pots and pans are in a cabinet. My books are scattered throughout the house. I’m not a “proud cast iron skillet owner,” or a “proud TV owner.”
The absolutely glorification and fetishization of guns in this country is fucking warped. It’s completely fucked up.

“Maintenance” doesn’t cost much. If they’re properly stored, and you’re not shoot it and having to clean it, there’s pretty much no cost.
Acquisition cost is where the money is in that photo. Even at an average cost of $500 per gun (way low for many of those, maybe a bit high for a few of them), I estimate around 200 guns in that pic. He has well over $100k worth of firearms on display. For what? I have way more guns than I need - some older inherited guns, the ones I actually use to hunt, a couple of extra shotguns to lend to people on hunting trips, and a handful of .22s for plinking, and I’m not even close to 10% of that guy’s psychotic arsenal. And to be clear, I own a lot of guns - I’m probably in the top 5% as far as numbers go.

I didn't think we needed to beat this horse again but self defense, sure. And unfortunately, looking more inevitable as the years go by, resisting a tyrannical, fascist right wing government.

That’s an even bigger fantasy than the multi magazine home defense shootout. The government will push that AR straight up your ass.  You’re bringing a pop gun to a combined arms fight. Why do you think we are feeding Ukraine with javelins, howitzers, and MLRS?

If there is any hope for congressional action on gun control in the aftermath of the Uvalde tragedy—or another mass shooting in the future—it almost certainly will require reform or elimination of the filibuster. Otherwise, the basic rules of American politics will continue to allow Republicans to impose their priorities even when a clear majority of Americans disagree. The hard truth is that there’s no way to confront America’s accelerating epidemic of gun violence without first addressing its systemic erosion of majority rule.

this and always this. no mechanism exists for change, which is why this ship has sailed. there is nothing to be done about it any longer.

Also, the AR15 cult will undoubtedly jump in on the side of fascist autocracy. The canard that Good Guys With Guns will save us from American Hitler is belied by the undeniable fact that they almost unanimously support American fascists and often say things like “You know, Hitler actually had some pretty good ideas…”

On this Memorial Day, let's take a moment to remember those who involuntarily gave their lives for American gun culture.

Then take a moment to reflect on the Americans who allowed it to happen.

America has an insecure loser problem. Gun culture is birthed from rampant feelings of inadequacy. The winners in American society don’t post photos of all their guns arranged on the floor of their exurban tract home. That’s the social media MO of our losers.

Guns give a sense of power to the powerless. They’re a source of pride for those who haven’t earned it. In America, you can walk into a gun store and exchange your meager disposable income for a semi-automatic substitute for success. And you never have to do anything with those guns except own them and pose them and fantasize about all the heroic things you’d do with them in an imagined world of imminent threats.

These dipshits are all Ralphie with his Red Ryder carbine. Except Ralphie grew up.

I think its entirely too simple to say "elect a black president" as a primary trigger. It obviously coincides with plenty of other globalisation issues coming up that have been boiling for some time. Loss of American exceptionalism, older world views, loss of religion, having to see new people/views, all adds up to radical change. Black POTUS is certainly part of it too.

For sure loser is right, but as pyro posted that describes pretty much all of humanity too.

I find it interesting that in times of change that such entitled people take it the worst. I guess thats how this whole circus has to play out otherwise Ghandi would just nuke everyone.

It looks like the tweet is down, but yeah.  Oil them, store them in a climate control location and that’s “maintenance.” Plenty of people can and do take pre-WWII metal out to the range, a well-made firearm will last as long as you want it if you’re not putting round after round through it.

The tweet disappeared but that looked like it was just a “own the libs” arsenal.  I didn’t see a lot there historic or interesting to collectors.  A serious sports shooter would be investing into far fewer, far more expensive items and you don’t drag your Beretta over/under onto the driveway. And a true nut waiting for the race war or fallout zombies doesn’t fucking take photos of his shit for the feds to see.

So I feel owned. Success.

Their recipe is actually super easy.

If you are remotely intelligent and have a shred of human decency, what causes you the greatest distress is seeing pointless idiocy that shows minimal regard for other human beings.

So, what do they do to "own" you?  Yep.  Amp up the pointless idiocy higher and higher and higher.  "Look what a complete fucking jackhole moron I am, and how much that pisses off the libs!  HURR DURR, OWNED, LIBTARDS!"

And every time our jaw drops, appalled at how fucking stupid they've gotten, they respond "oh yeah?  Well watch THIS!" as they do something even worse.

This morning before jumping in the pool I took a minute to explain what today is about. I told my youngest daughter, 5, that we honor the soldiers that died protecting our country so we can be free. She looked me dead in the eye and said “yeah a bunch died in school”. It broke me.

They do not. They want to talk about anything other than gun control. Any discussion other than gun control is a disingenuous distraction that will be sandbagged once the outrage has passed.

I understand why we focus on the lives lost in a situation like Uvalde, but I wish there was more discussion about the children and teachers who survived and how this affects the rest of their lives. Many will have PTSD, depression, anxiety. What affects them could possibly affect their future children.

GOP wants to talk about mental health? OK, let's fucking talk about mental health. These mass shootings are causing hundreds of thousands of people to deal with trauma that doesn't ever need to happen. There will be generational issues for the people who LIVED. Fuck this world.

The GOP calls them crisis actors. They don’t give a fuck. All they care about is appealing to their gun nut base of deplorables and collecting donations from the NRA to help them stay in power.

While watching Washington Journal this weekend, during the call in segment on Uvalde, a gun lover said the kids who were purportedly killed in the Sandy Hook massacre, were later shown to have appeared in a Super Bowl half time event, and that they were in no way dead.

Just flat ass crazy.

Them? They’re pussy libtards who just want a handout and need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Sounds like you’re one of them commie socialists - THE LORD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES, that’s what Jesus said in the Bible, you can look it up, if you have a Bible, commie.

Next to nothing.  Storing them would be pretty expensive, but nothing like the $$$ he has tied up there.   Shooting them regularly, on the other hand, would be very expensive. At least for the last several years.

All of this, except for the Beretta part.  Definitely not laying a P-gun on the ground. Dude has an Arsenal of pretty much the same shit.  The fact it’s entirely tactical type arms leads me to believe he is a bit coo coo.  If those were all European scatterguns of different vintage and gauge, would be ALOT cooler.

I mean.....I DO have my great grandmother's 125+ yr old molcajete.  It's worn completely smooth.  But I don't even make a big deal out of THAT, because I'm not a small-dicked pathetic loser compensating for the fact that I know for certain that pathetic loserdom is my destiny.

Like 99% of the "tacticool" crowd is.

Guns don't make you a badass, or a hero.  You either is or you ain't the guns ain't got nothing to do with it -- see, e.g., a jillion tactical armed Uvalde cops being cowards despite being well-armed.  Shit, at this point, I'm pretty sure tacticool guns are cover -- the more you have, and the more you display them, the greater your small-dick energy.

It's worth a repost.

The nightmares — always of being chased — lingered for years, but she didn’t think she deserved help, not when classmates had died, been maimed or had witnessed the carnage firsthand. She would be okay.

But now there she was, a decade later, sitting in the darkness, practicing once again to escape what so many of her friends had not. Then she heard footsteps and saw the shadow of an administrator checking the locks. Her chest began to throb, and suddenly, Haviland knew she wasn’t okay.
