A national anthem singer says his performance at the Men's College World Series has been canceled because he made the Horns Down gesture before a Women's College World Series semifinal between Texas and Oklahoma State.

Zach Collier, a 27-year-old U.S. history teacher in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and a Texas A&M alumnus, posted this week on Facebook that his performance was nixed.

Collier also posted screenshots of emails purportedly from the College World Series of Omaha, Inc., which said it was contacted by the NCAA because "we have documented proof that he made offensive gestures and mockery of a participating team ... and we do not feel comfortable allowing him to perform

Horns Down is dumb. Being offended by Horns Down is also dumb.

But showing Horns Down when you're on a national stage instead of celebrating your own school by flashing its traditional handsign is mindnumbingly stupid.

Classic case of aggy hating Texas more than it loves itself.

The ags weren't playing, so any gesture of any kind, from him, would have been stupid, inappropriate, and out of place.

But as always, ags can't help but show their ass while they try to make every single thing about themselves.

Oh they love themselves...they got jars to prove it.

Eh. I'd agree if he'd given a thumbs up and yelled "GIG EM, AGS!" or something like that, but just giving a subtle thumbs up after the song? Completely acceptable, imo.

Agree with your second comment, though--they really can't help themselves.

I still think it would be inappropriate and out of place and typical look-at-me aggy behavior, but I don't think it would have or should have gotten him fired, if he'd left it at that.

But in reality, do you believe that any ag in that situation would actually be capable of "just giving a subtle thumbs up after the song?"  Cause I sure don't.

This. No one should be upset living rent-free in others' heads ... especially aggy ... lots of unused space to roam.

I watched the video.  Seems like a fat douche, that's an okay singer.  Not sure why he was scheduled in the first place for either event.  Maybe I'm missing something.

He and his wife are on the anthem singing circuit in the DFW area apparently

The national anthem is also dumb. Shitty song that changes 8 octaves that nobody can sing worth a shit. If it's special stop playing it so fucking much. Put the ball on the tee or throw out the first pitch and play ball, but enough of the fake bro country patriotism.

Calm yourselves Slorches; I said what I said.

Stupid people making declarative generalizations employing "dumb" should be enrolled In the national socialist eugenics program.

There's nothing about the range that's difficult.  It's an octave and a half and only goes to a F4.

The problem is that modern pop songs don't have challenging vocal parts and modern pop singers don't have competent range.  Adele and Beyonce only have a 2-octave range. Celine Dion was limited to 3 octaves. For comparison, Axel Rose ranges 5 octaves.

I would donate serious money to have Axl sing the anthem at a UT game.

Axl Rose is also fatter than Adele, now.

Who knew there were people that used their ok singing voice to get free tickets to games. I guess many events struggle to find a capable singer so they take who they can.

without even seeing the video, I envisioned a fat fuck wearing cargo shorts below his knees. I was right.  Also he wore his wraparound shades while singing the anthem with the sun at his back. Im unaware if wearing shades same level as wearing a hat during the anthem, but show some respect and take the shades off if you’re singing anthem. Especially if the sun is fully behind you, based on the shadows.

He's aggy. He may have suffered some eye damage from a jizz accident that requires sunglasses even if it's not bright out.

My guess is that he's fond of making youtube video rants in his truck.

I still don't understand why anyone thinks the horns down is offensive.  Stupid, yes but not offensive.

I'm still glad they cancelled the aggy because well... aggy.

I don't find it offensive,  I think it's hilarious.

I find it in poor taste when fans do it when their school is not playing us.  Seeing a Horns down in the middle of Texas Tech-KSU Football game broadcast makes no sense.  Nor an aggy alumni doing it during a the national anthem before a softball game between Texas and Oklahoma State. At the WCWS, in which Texas A&M did not even get to.

But ECU fans doing it during the Greenville Super Regional - the meme potentials were endless and hilarious and it was even better when we kicked their asses to their couches to watch the CWS.

I've yet to find one UT grad that is offended by it. Admittedly I've never asked anyone but I would assume someone would express their offended status on their own.

If anything I treat horns down like I do the confederate flag. I don't personally care but it helps me in identifying the morons. It's also a sign that these schools spend way too much time obsessing over us. Like OU or Tech. As for these one-off schools (ECU, Gonzaga) that we rarely play, I find it odd when they do it. whatever.

Horns down when we aren’t even involved is great.  It shows we are a big deal and in their heads and shows that they are petty little bitches.

Uhmmm says it was UT-OSU lite semifinal game. And Texas won. So thanks Zac Collier you fat fuck simpleton

Well someone must get offended over it or the NCAA wouldn't make a big deal over it.

I assume the NCAA feels like it should be more neutral in appearance.

If anything, it's on the NCAA planning committee - maybe vet your entertainment better or remind them it's a neutral site contest hosted by the NCAA, not Midnight Yell at the Dixie Chicken.

Just scrap the whole stupid national anthem before a baseball game thing.

If a Texas guy sang the national anthem then followed with an "OU sucks", it would be kinda funny but ultimately classless and dumb and kinda embarassing. There's a time and place.

Of course, aggie doesn't understand the concept.

The guy made a ridiculous argument:

Quote

"Saying that I'm making a mockery of a participating team because I put a Horns Down is ridiculous."

Some people display poor logic skills in that they believe its impossible that they were offensive or making fun of someone if they believe otherwise. To them, it's impossible to be offensive (or mocking, insulting, fill-in-the-blank term) unless that was their intent.

Intent matters but it isn't the only criteria.

EDIT: I imagine the national anthem is a sensitive subject especially if the singer uses the platform/microphone for anything other than the song. The NCAA wouldn't want the singer to say BLM, MAGA, Gig-em, hook'em horns, horns down, etc. Your only job was to sing the song and nothing else. You want to do something else, do it on your own time.

But also, the sole purpose of the gesture, is to be a taunt, insult, or mockery.  The moment the gesture occurs, its intent is self-evident.  There's no other purpose in doing it.

Like I said before, we can argue all day about whether or not Longhorn fans should be insulted by it.  Personally, when I see someone doing it, I don't feel anger, but rather gratitude, that a moron has self-identified and I don't need to spend any time dealing with that person in the future.

But like @Js1 said, the NCAA is supposed to be neutral, and having some slapdick ag openly taunting one of the two participating teams, isn't ever going to be acceptable.  He got exactly what he deserved-- cancellation of the opportunity to perform at another deliberately neutral setting.

Longhorn fans don't need to be offended by it, for it still to be the right thing to do.
