I've heard stories, but how close was Eli to Texas back in the day before committing to Ole Miss?

Manning won’t be doing Lambo commercials anytime soon. And his school NIL deals will be small in comparison to other National deals he signs. He is likely taking calls from Nike and Gatorade right now. And that would have happened regardless of where he went. It is only enhanced by going to a blue blood or a perennial contender. I honestly don’t think it matters if it was Athens or Austin now. Georgia is on National TV every week and likely in playoffs over the next 3 years. That’s just as valuable, if not more, than Austin to National advertisers.

Manning is one of the first kids that actually has a name to sell nationally. 95% of NIL deals now wouldn’t have happened if they limited it to non-school affiliated deals. To compare him to Ewers is just wrong.

Great post, this is the part that is flying over Slorch’s head. Manning is a completely unique prospect when it comes to talking about NIL money. Before playing a snap of his senior year of high school, he currently has 3X more Instagram followers than Bryce Young.

He already is the brand with no help from us. He’s using the school he picks as a business partner, not walking up with his hand out for sunflower seed endorsement money.

I was a part of a small group last night in Florence, Italy and we were texting with Arch’s mom. Apparently the city of Austin and the ability for rich people to spend money there played a huge part in the overall recruitment of the family, including Arch.

Not about opportunity to make money, opportunity to spend it. From a money perspective, it’s a rare occurrence, but it happened in this case. They want to be able to stay at the Four Seasons, network with celebs, buy Ferraris. Not rep them.

Makes sense compared to Tuscaloosa/Birmingham.   But it's pretty easy to spend money around Atlanta.

Not sure if you're kidding or not, but I definitely can see that being a factor.  To a greater extent, it's why people like to live in California.  Lincoln Riley said as much.  He wanted his daughters to be around talented people, not Cracker Barrel waitresses.

Austin is one of the hottest economic cities in the US and we're right next to two of the 8 largest markets.  Money is here.

This cracks me up, Eli wasn't his brother or Tom Brady, but basically no one is; the dude has 2 rings...how is that overrated?

Maybe their obvious stupidity is a result of using 90% of their brain capacity to constantly do these mental gymnastics to keep their reality intact:

1a. Arch sucks.

1b. A great recruit like Arch would never go to Texas unless it was about $$$.

2a. Saban never wanted Arch, and Georgia must have let him know that he wasn't the top choice.

2b. Texas just outbid 'bama and UGA, probably paid more than they should.  LOCK THEM UP!!!   ER, INVESTIGATE THEM!!

3a. He's going to end up terrible college QB like Simms and Colt.

3b. Simms: never lost >2 games in a season...beat Aggy 3 times in a row.  Colt winningest QB in CFB history at the time, highest completion %, got Texas in position to fight for a National Championship (arguably) 2 years in a row.

4a. Texas can't develop QBs (forget the track record of the current coaching staff).

4b. ATM is on the verge!!!!!! (based on the track record of the current coaching staff).

5a. Arch isn't the best QB in '23.  Not even the best in LA.

5b. Arch rated #1 by all the experts.  Only the 3rd 1.000 QB recruit in history.  (Oh yeah, the previous 2 are both longhorns...one of which already proved himself a god).

Add in all the rest of their made-up-stories traditions, and we may finally understand why they often struggle with simple logic or sentences...

By far the funniest thing I heard yesterday came from an aggie friend who told me that Arch was a great get but that Texas did not have the money to get the #1 overall class.

Thank goodness he wasn't at the top of Jimbo's list! You can go to any chain restaurant in America there plus the Dixie Chicken.

They dodged a bullet realizing Manning is not even the best QB in Louisiana! Jimbo knows how to win a national championship.

I had an aggy tell me that Arch is probably reached his ceiling, he doesn’t have good arm strength and that he questions Arch’s competitive drive because he doesn’t go to camps.

The 'QB Development is greater than any silly money' argument is funny AF.  Texas has all the money in the world and virtually no QB development since Colt McCoy.  Of course it is because of the money.  Own that.  It's who you are.

if by "overrated" you mean "2-time super bowl winner" I'll take it.

Do they even realize what clowns they are?

I can understand OU fans giving us shit for being over-rated and never winning anything. But A&M? If anything they are just a shittier version of ourselves. They are underachievers without a 2004-2009 era.

Nope, that’s what makes them an aggy!

Well anyway, here's what he looks like playing ball.

I won't shit up the thread by pretending I know a damn thing about talent evaluation, but he looks kinda like he might not suck.

Dang that one guy in the red shirt is taking this so personally. Almost like Arch called him and told him to go fuck himself.

That’s Mike Griffen. He was a beat writer for Tennessee during the Fulmer years and was a big suckup for them, then moved to UGA and became Kirby’s biggest fan. Stalin’s advisers had more harsh things to say in public than Griffin does about UGA.

I like how he gets rid of the ball fast. That's important with our offensive line.

You know that last year's class will be upperclassmen by the time he plays for us, right?

the sheer volume of passes to put in a highlight reel is certainly encouraging.

also, lulz at high school tapes in general.  some of those dudes he was going against looked like they could bench 95 pounds.

So do his offensive linemen. Newman is a private school playing other private schools for the most part. Though he’s had some expert advice and likely even coaching from his uncles, college will be a massive step up. But he’s as well equipped to handle it as just about any prospect.

Sure but that's no guarantee of anything.

In any case It was just self-deprecating humor.
