2 Votes for Good Times and Tighten Up (Archie Bell and the Drells from HTown!).  If we were to compile a Top 10 or 20, the songs should all be from old school soul, R&B, and funk.

Can we up the difficulty? How about no:

Les Claypool
Flea
Victor Wooten

Ironically, i think Flea's best bass line was for a non RHCP song - Bust A Move by Young MC.

hell yeah - Paul McCartney is underrated as a bassist.  And a singer, for that matter.  Or at least, his songwriting and BEATLES!!!!111 overshadows how great he was with both instruments.

Back to singing Jamerson's praises, if any of y'all haven't seen "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", it's worth watching.  They also touch on how the British invasion dudes were influenced directly by Jamerson without even knowing his name.  I think it was a quote from Entwistle where he describes his favorite bassist as "whoever plays on the motown songs"

also, Carol Kaye

Yes, disco sucks and we all hate it but some of that shit had rad bass lines. You can even hear the disco-funk bass influence on credible rock badasses like the Stones (Miss You) and the Clash (The Magnificent Seven).

Couldn't find isolated tracks but these have some guys playing the bass along with the songs and you can hear it better.
