Well the sun started shining as soon as Tiger got out there, he hits one solidly into the fairway and draws a lie in the divot, 2nd shot into the burn.  That's a shitty start to this tournament.
If only that guy could catch a break...

Iswydt.

What a disappointing opening to the open.  Watching Jordan 3 putt for par from 20 feet away, watching Tiger schmuck it up- I have no idea where the TV coverage is for Scheffler, I think I've seen him hit 3 shots on the day right now.  I hate everything.

Sky Sports and too many limeys...

Agree . We will be getting plenty of coverage of Scheffler on Sunday though.

Also- and I do like the Open in the main- the TV coverage is awful and it's damn near impossible at times to follow the ball.  it can get really irritating between the shit tv coverage, the bad camera angles, the random shots of 80 year olds eating ice cream, and the lack of contrast between turf, hole and ball.  It's really bad at times.

For playing as poorly as he is, Tiger is smiling a lot. I guess he is just happy to be there.

Tiger has 27 holes left till they cut the field down.  Currently +5, wonder what he will have to shoot to make the cut ??

Maybe -7 over the next 27 holes...

Agreed. Lots of golf left to be played. But old Tiger is notorious for being extremely focused, not talking to his playing partners and definitely not smiling. This Tiger is chatting up a storm and smiling a shitton. I guess the wreck and the prospects of never being able to play again humbled him.

Birdies for Spieth and Varner on #12.  Rahmbo is running hot after 3 putt par.

Cut rules for The OPEN

"Any player in 70th place or better (including ties) makes the cut while anyone in 71st place or worse is cut."

Tiger +5   is T145 and 5 strokes behind the current cut line

Watching the later rounds, how did C Young shoot a -8? Greens aren't holding anything. Seems like every approach shot is running 30-50 yards.

Less wind, greens held a little better, and much better approach shots...  he played a great Rd by hitting every green in regulation.

Looking at the scores, later tee time players are definitely scoring higher. Way more players in + side than there are in the - side. Will be interesting if conditions are similar for early vs later tee times tomorrow.

The “luck of the draw”is consistently a factor at the Open. Way more than any other tournament.

Guess I'll get up about an hour early for the 4AMish central tee times for Jordan, Rahm, Woods, Fitzpatrick, etc. Obviously the coverage will be every single wet fart step of Tiger en route to his last walk across the Swilican bridge with a MC. But hopefully the weather is a repeat of today where the early tees get good scoring conditions and the later guys fight the winds some. And then may a wall of shit come in on Saturday and give the Old Course some teeth.

Over 6 Hrs to play 18 holes... just wrong  🙄

Hope the R&A spreads out the tee times this weekend to speed up play.

They were all stuck behind this guy.

If they want to speed it up over the weekend they are going to have to run the first groups out at the crack of dawn.

Just too many things with the layout that lend itself to a long round.

There are multiple holes that criss cross each other.

Something like 6 or more of the par 4s are drivable.

I saw a few groups today that had to wait because someone was on their side of a shared green.

I get that it is the home of golf, but if this course were on the South Carolina coast and built in 1985 people would be way more vocal about the "charm" of the course, and in a bad way.

Bolded is the biggest issue(and then you include the part 5's).  They should do a Lee Trevino and make everyone tee off with a coke bottle.  the fairway bunkers arent really in play which is what protects the course.

the hilarious thing about all this is if you are playing there the caddies are normally all up your ass about getting moving...

The Old Lady has seen her days.

Really don't care if 1st pair tees off at 7am or 8am local time in Scotland.

Only 70 plus ties on the weekend, so start early and spread out tee times to 12 minutes apart.  Don't forget on Sat/Sun they will also be in pairs vs threesomes.

Example:  Starting at 8am in 12 minute intervals has 72 players going off with last group teeing off at 3:00pm local time in Scotland.

So they will be increasing spread between tee times by a minute plus dropping a player in each group.  Play will definitely speed up and be much better than the dumb delays we watched today.

I'd guess he has to shoot (or give food poisoning to) about 70-75 players above him on the leaderboard

Consolation is that he beat Duval, Calc & Clarke
