I always say when I get rich I'm buying a summer house out here.  PNW summers are the greatest thing ever

I posted on another thread about this but I am seriously considering getting a summer condo or something in the Seatle area (still need to be near an airport for work).  Now I just need the real estate market to collapse for a little bit so I can buy something up there at a decent price.  I was in Vancouver, BC Saturday night and it was 60 degrees and quite nice just wandering around the downtown area up there.  It sucked coming back to TX on Sunday and 108 degree weather.

Shhhhh... Stop it.

It's terrible here. Unbearable homelessness, de-funded police, women who don't shave (although those might be sasquatches), rampant communism, critical race theory all over the sidewalks.

No one should move here. Not at all. It's better wherever you are... trust me.

So in my "Texpatriate" scheming, Washington State is there along with North Carolina. I think I'd like the Carolina weather more, and it's a bit closer to everything.

But damn if I don't think the Pacific NW is the most beautiful part of the country, and it's a solidly blue place.

Just take everyone back that moved over the hill the past couple years. Thank you.

You speak the truth. I lived in Portland 99-02. It was starting to get bad then and can’t imagine living there now. Elections are mostly between Communists, eight kinds of socialists, Bakunin anarchists, Wobblies, and greens. A shitshow.

If the greater Idaho movement succeeded, with the red areas of Oregon and WA breaking away from the Portland-Eugene and Seattle axis. I’d move up therein a heartbeat.

well that just means no girls in bikinis then

Nope. They have such a short summer, they take advantage of it when it finally shows....4th of July this year.  They are a little bright when they first show, but they brown nicely.

This thread is relevant to my interests as my wife and I have been discussing a long weekend/escape the hellish Dallas temperatures getaway in early August. Have been kicking around Portland or Seattle.

While these forecasts don’t go out quite that far out, I was disappointed to see the high temps on there (for Portland in particular next week):

Washington is at its best when it is swing state.  Ever since the Democrats took full control, only less than a decade ago, we have seen decline.  A massive rise in homelessness, graffiti, property crime, etc.

We really need less California lefties moving here for a long time.

I'm not usually a "No CR!1!1!1" guy but these are pretty blatant. C'mon y'all. There's a Texpatriates thread in the CR for this discussion.

Also lol @Texzilla58 I think your sarcasm meter needs checking.

My mother in law is selling her house in Kent if any of you want to live in the burbs out there.  You can see part of Mt. Rainier from the upstairs bedroom.

edit to add: and I'm a little bummed out she's moving.  We'd visit every other year if not more often.  There's still other family up there, but it's not the same.  She might end up in Boise, so I'll need to find the good hikes out there.

In Seattle yesterday and today and it’s been perfect. Next week gets a sudden heat wave, but heading to Iron Springs tomorrow where the high will be 65 through Sunday and in low 70’s next week.

The heat dome that might be coming next week is projecting temps into the 80s and perhaps low 90s... so even our "heat" is often cooler.

(I'll be in Maui, so it won't make a shit to me)

Just left the mountains outside of Asheville and it was 96*.  The US is on full broil right now.  Except Juneau where I’ll be next week with highs in the low 60s.

We did a whirlwind of whale watching out of Antores, Mt Baker, North Cascades, Mt Rainer, Mt St Helens, Columbia Gorge, Newberry Natl Volcanic Monument, Crater Lake, Redwoods, and on up 101 back to Seattle.

I liked Olymic best, any hike in the woods to a waterfall (so like a bunch), and beaches at low tide. My kids liked any hotel with a pool & waffle makers, and post-hike ice cream bribes. Dislikes: airlines, rental car companies.

Red Rocks would like to have a word with you.

Red Rocks is my #1 even though it attracts quite a few douches.

I'm in SoCal right now and would consider heading to the Portland burbs.

Rental companies are evil.  I'm gonna start looking at rental car shares.

Wife and I are headed up this way in August for a Thursday to Sunday long weekend trip. Flying into Portland and staying there Thursday night. Will stay Friday and Saturday night in Cannon Beach. I love seeing the coast wherever I view and especially scenic locations.

For Saturday I was thinking we’d get up that morning and drive down south though Mazanita, Rockaway Beach down to Cape Meares State and Cape Lookout and over to Tillamook. Then maybe drive back up the coast to Astoria.

Thoughts? Anything I’m missing? Is going up north to Astoria a better move than perhaps heading further south?

TIA
