First half was...not good, but hey 1-1 looks nice and FCito had some dudes play.

As always nothing to take from preseason.

Owen juked that defender on the corner kick which led to the Buka goal.  Then Owen tries to give it back in the waning seconds by turning around and kicking over our end line.

The "Trapitos" that were translated as "rag pickers" and "street urchins" if you allow Chrome to translate the article and common in popular spots at night.

I have never been to that town/neighborhood, but in other parts of Buenos Aires, "working class" people will stake out a street and wave a rag / white hand towel to get you to park in an open space "on their block".

They are not working for a parking lot company or waving people onto people's lawns like you see around Fair Park when going to the Texas/OU game. These guys are simply staking out free street parking and basically charging you to "watch your car". It is small time, but the exact same thing as the mob charging protection so that you store doesn't get burned down. (a.k.a. "extortion")

In this case, I think that they asked for US$10 and got US$8. (UPDATE: actually, slightly less than that)

In retrospect, I am thinking that they wish that they had paid the extra US$1.80.

I only was in a car when going out on the weekends when I was with my Argie girlfriend 15 years ago... but even then it was really annoying. She just had a subcompact Chevrolet 4 door at the time, so at least it didn't scream "This girl's loaded!" Other times it was walking, taxis, and buses.

People sometimes ask: "Do you miss Argentina?"

Answer: Some things I do, but trapitos are definitely not something I miss.

I have an FC Yeti think it's 28 oz. Have used it everyday for years now. Those look a little bigger than mine.

These are stackable 16 oz.  Large enough for a cup of coffee, but not much else.

Ah okay. I was wondering why there were two silver bands lol.

Good size for an adult beverage.

we looked competent tonight.  I liked moving Dani up.  Ilie will be a steadying force.  He’s a much more talented version of Valencia and cleaned up a lot of shit tonight.

Vasquez wins every single ball.  He knows how to position his body to get there.  We haven’t had a player like him on this team ever. Excited to see what he can do.

Was cold, but good times.

Stuff to like (actually created some chances), stuff not to like (still have a team habit of taking 6 touches when 2 will do, and fear/hesitancy to be aggressive with crosses and shots). All in all, happy to get three points, and really glad we wore our “montreal coats” (got em for visiting there). The light rain made it feel even colder.

Meant to add Desler is my new favorite player.   Has that look of the small Viking that might go berserker.  A bit of a nutter.  But really fun and had a great game last night.

I was pretty low in the supporters section, so my view of the field was not great.

But this looks like our best defense we have had since Gabrielsen in '22, and we could end up with one of the best defenses in the league.

KC is also shit, so I should probably hold off on that kind of talk. Ilie is a massive upgrade, as we dominated the midfield for the full 90.

We need to take our shots. I don't think Owen and Dani are good enough to control and create in this horseshoe offense. And our service still sucks ass, so we need crosses and shots in volume.

We have a legit target man in Vasquez and two extremely quick wingers, let's fucking send the ball long and risk losing it in their third. We were winning it back from KC in the MF consistently, but Owen and Dani are vulnerable in possession and will give the ball away in bad spots.

We will need Biro and Dessler to make accurate crosses in that offense. Obrian and Bukari are best in transition imo.

Overall, this team looks a lot better and while we may not have an offensive  player the caliber of Seba, '22 Seba was not going to suit up for this team again.

Vasquez is going to be fun to watch. I would bet he will have a brace soon.

Great first game, offensive chemistry will take time, so I am hopeful we will be scoring a lot by mid season.

The hesitancy is what kills us, and always has. They’re making a break, but it’s not set up PERFECTLY, so they hold up to let other attackers (and as a result, the entire opposing defense) set up. In pursuit of perfection on the attack, we repeatedly sacrifice ALL momentum.
Fuck that shit. If you have ANY advantage…press the advantage. You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to be slightly better than the opposing defense.
And FFS, 1-2 touches near the box. Send it on service, or shoot. MAYBE a quick pass. Futzing around with the ball for 10 touches to give defenders time to close all lanes is so stupid.
Press all advantages, no matter how off balance you feel.
1-2 touches near the box, and don’t be afraid of shooting early.

Who is Uzuni replacing?  It says he is a left winger but they into’d him as number “10” last night.  Are they putting him behind BV (in Wolff’s place)?  Or is he taking LW and we move Bukari over to right?

Great time like always. I thought the team looked great in the stadium (Ilie and Vazquez were great additions in game 1), but most of that was probably SKC being SKC.

My contribution to the tifo was extensive touch up to the green spaces on the bat and an entire baby shit brown stripe on the bridge.  Unfortunately, we couldn't get a good view from our seats due to the firework smoke.

He is wearing the number 10 on his jersey.  As you said, probably taking LW and with Buka on the right.  I hope he will taking the place of Jader Obrian - I think he was the weakest link on offense.   I can't wait to see Buka, Vazquez, and Uzuni on the pitch at the same time.  They will be trouble for the opposing defenses because you can only double team one.

Re-watched the game this morning.  I don't agree with @Bottlecap's  assessment of Owen.  He possessed the ball quite a bit, mainly because he is very good at off-the-ball movement.  I like how he takes the ball, upon receiving a pass on the wing, diagonally towards the top of the box.  He had a near miss on one of those runs and some perfectly weighted passes back to Buka.  His corner kick dropped perfectly on Cascante which allowed for the lone goal (his earlier corner was right to the first defender, though).  I'd like to see him continue in this offensive role.  He doesn't have quite the ball skill at his feet as Dani, but I think he has a higher ceiling.

I also though Gally was fire off the bench.  He will have plenty of goal contributions in the second half of games.

He's a spark, an energizing presence, and our second fastest player.  Bringing him in as fresh legs is dangerous for the opposition, and I like it.

And this.

Overall, they looked better, but were still doing the same annoying shit, like fucking around with the ball, letting the defense catch up and looking for passes when shots are available. That said, at least they are getting shots off and didn't park the bus with a 1 goal lead or give up a goal after 85 minutes, which is a huge improvement, especially compared to the second half of last season.

Miscellany:
- It was chilly and damp
- Bukari's passing is slick
- Dressler plays angry, I like it
- Owen was MUCH better and seemed both more confident and physically stronger
- The official with a beard was terrible and also a dick
- When one of KC's players did a Dwayne-Wade level flop and got yellow carded, I was shouting "DIE AGAIN, MORTIMER, DIE AGAIN!" The lady in front of us thought it was hilarious because it was, but nobody else seemed to get the reference. Doesn't anyone appreciate the American theater anymore? I play to an upmarket crowd.
- There were a couple of blonds sitting in the vicinity of @Brisketexan's seats, at least one of whom appeared to be working with some spectacular bolt-ons. She was also wearing a red cap, and while I'm not sure what it said, she did have a bit of a MAGA look.
- I didn't see Brisket, I don't know if he was ejected or busy talking to the blonds about poutine or what but, gift horses.
