Tell me about Texas Tech

If you don’t mind me asking, is the deal with Hudson one of these (both based on speculation):

-He signed for a big multi-year NIL, underperformed, and was told he was getting a pay cut, prompting him to leave

or

-He signed, underperformed, blames the Tech situation and wants a new scene to try to achieve his goals as a player

or something else?

I don’t know anyone on the Tech end and my buddies in and around CFB are either not connected with Tech either or they have an actively hostile relationship with people involved there. So, no clue once the guy signed.

How is the Tech recruiting class looking? I vaguely remember that they were changing the Texas recruiting landscape earlier this year. 😉

Had to scroll a bit to find #42

He was injured some, but any underperformance is on the coaches, IMHO.  He just flat out did not get the reps any reasonable person would expect a player of his stature to receive.  We had an all new receiving corps and middling results and super stud can't get 4-5 targets a game?

8 receptions for 123 yards and no TDS...not in one game, but the season.

Respectfully, a reasonable player of his stature wouldn’t go to Tech in the first place. Like CTJ said, this result was fairly predictable. I’d argue that decision alone provides some insight into his overall mindset and competitive character. From that perspective, it is a bit easier to believe at least some of the blame for his underperformance resides with Micah.

Frankly, I fail to understand how a kid (with such immense talent) who took a fair bit of money to walk into an advantageous playing situation, somehow couldn’t earn any reps, his bankrollers somehow didn’t inquire as to why one of their biggest investments wasn’t getting any burn (or were given a satisfactory explanation), yet somehow it is clearly the coaches’ fault that this super stud couldn’t get on the field even when he was healthy. Coaches aren’t in the habit of deliberately not playing the players that give them the best chance to win.

That makes as much sense as the “Joey was restraining Kittley to protect his defense” argument. Correct me if I’m wrong, but one of the persistent postgame questions I heard was, “why didn’t you feed your All-American RB more to control TOP and maintain field position consistently throughout the game?” Another was, “why do you keep going for stupid fourth downs in your own territory? Don’t you know how tough that is on your defense?” I imagine their last two games coming against two of the very worst P4 defenses in nearly every metric played a significant role in their increased output.

I think there is a reasonable chance that he has one really good year where things fall his way and they win the B12. They will proceed to lose their first playoff game, of course, but that won't stop them from giving him a lifetime contract and putting up a statue of his salty ass.

That’s harsh. They haven’t cracked the top 25 since Alan Bowman was a true freshman (he just finished his sixth season). Alan Bowman spent more time in the top 25 (one week) at Tech than Mahomes did in his entire collegiate career (never). The last guy to spend consecutive weeks there was a true freshman walk on named Baker Mayfield in 2013. Joey had a chance to break through two years ago, but he promptly shit the bed vs Wyoming in the opener. They were a poorly thrown fade route away from losing to ACU (filled with a bunch of Tech castoffs) in regulation to open this year. With that in mind, I think they might give a lifetime contract to the first coach who can achieve the seemingly unattainable feat of being a top 25 team for at least one week…or maybe just not shit down his leg vs a powderpuff in week one.

Thats why they call him “JV Joey”

I was a few days late seeing this clip...

Just "Wow."

Hiding under Texas' skirt by claiming that a "Big 12 team" is in the SEC title game...  I mean, WTF?

First of all, it was apparent that by 2023, Sark had assembled an SEC roster (as evidenced by a double-digit win over the SEC champion on their home field), but we were still shackled by TV contracts to the Big 12.

The idea that Texas is "Big 12" team in December of 2024 is just such loserspeak - he should be embarrassed for trying to "claim" us somehow.

Reminder:  In reality, it was a lot more one-sided than 57-7 would lead you to believe.

Pretty much... Big 12's top 2 recruiting classes by year:

2022 #5 and #10

2023 #3 and #6

2024 #5 and #12

2025 #23 and #34... "almost" the same Joey.... wonder what happened

Methinks Joey is following the Jerrah Jones rule of "it doesn't matter what they say about you, what's important is to be talked about."

Staying in the national media's eye in Lubbock is its own challenge. He's probably got Post-it notes all over his office reminding him to say something-anything-that has the potential to go viral.
