I watched Rick McIvor play his bi-district game his senior year in high school at Ft Stockton. He was amazing. Not sure what he had been doing since then other than being the Jeff Davis County Sheriff.  His started at Ft Davis and then transferred to San Angelo for his junior and senior year. Seen him play twice and he is  GOOD. Not as stout as his dad, but a wicked quick release and  quite accurate - I bet he fits well in Lubbock

I understand that he's a very resourceful and creative quarterback

I don't know that this has anything to do with the undeniable fact that Craig James Killed Five Hookers While at SMU, but Tech got a  pretty decent transfer from Nevada.  An inside receiver who was a freshman All American at Nevada.  He's a white, smallish possession receiver with great quickness who was under recruited out of high school and a Midland native.  McLane Mannix is also a top notch return man.

But I don't know that Texas Tech has had much success with that type of player.

He'll have three to play two and may even be eligible next season.

A tipster sends along the following email, which was originally sent from Stephen Spiegelberg, a Texas Tech alum and proprietor of Lubbock clothing store Chrome, to Joe Parker, the deputy athletics director at Texas Tech. According to the tipster, the message was bcc'd to a few of Texas Tech's regents. The email seems to be a followup message after a lunch meeting between Spiegelberg and Parker. It contains a detailed list of ideas about how to get Texas Tech's new head football coach, 33-year-old Kliff Kingsbury, into the media spotlight.

The email reads like the work of the real-life version of Jean-Ralphio, and it is as hilarious as it is ridiculous. Some of Spiegelberg's best suggestions:

  • Get Kingsbury a nickname. Suggestions include "GQ," "Hollywood," and "Swagger."
  • Get Kingsbury a professional stylist, specifically Fred Segal, who has apparently styled "Micheal" Jackson, Brad Pitt, Madonna, Ashley Olson, Bruce Willis, The Beatles, Carrie Underwood, and Adam Lambert. "The list goes on," boasts Spiegelberg.
  • Get Kingsbury on the "B-list," which will somehow lead to his being invited to the Oscars and Grammys. Also New York Fashion Week
Read the whole email, and then laugh. This is big-time college sports at its most farcical.

I have had a couple of interactions with Stephen Spiegleberg back in the 1990's.

He a moron and a POS who thinks extremely highly of himself.  And I say that hesitantly as to not offend morons and POS, because he does give them a bad name.

And knowing him, he will probably try and sue me for this post.

My years on the Shag didn't carry over here, so apparently I can't start a thread.  Article about cjk5h if anyone wants to post it...

Craig James is still a piece of shit.  So much so he's now trying to wrap it in a cloak of religion so you can't smell it.  But I can smell that shit from all the way over here.  CJK5H.

There"s likely value in being mindful this story is 6 years old at this point and not a person in the entire world, much Lubbock, took it seriously....other than perhaps the writer.

I was going to say some players dicked off on spring break and got back late or fatter, more drunk, and more stupid, but the full article says it was not spring break related and that each was unrelated to the other

so probably some shitty grades or shitty class attendance and with spring break Wells finally had time to meet with professors and professors had time to get the players overall performance reported and Wells was not ahppy

it sounds like it will be pretty quick and easy for them to return if they put in the effort to do so and I would day if they can't then bye...."bro" is gone he took his shitty coaching record and went pro so it is time to stop fucking off and looking forward to ice cream socials and pants off dance offs and instead think about winning some games and perhaps going pro yourself in a sport

4 parts mental

1 Part physical

It's been Beard's mantra with the basketball program.

https://www.everythinglubbock.com/sports/red-raider-nation/4-to-1-the-driving-force-behind-texas-tech-basketball/642360285

IDGAF about the Texas dillywhopper.  I'd agree that is aggy as hell.  I love the mental toughness aspect of Beard's approach.

You know I have them in the Final Four in our money pool but after seeing this I'd be okay if they shit the bed in the first round.

Knew it was a reach when he came on campus. He wasn't going to unseat Duffy or Bowman.

If he feels he can better exhibit his skills elsewhere, more power to him.  Guns up, all the way!

Needs to step down a level from P5..... Wonder with coaching change if he can get a waiver and play somewhere like Texas State???

An East Texas native (Gilmer), he might find SFA appealing.  Given the TT coaching change and prior turnover, there's a variety of places where ex coaches are now working including a few non P5 spots. Eric Morris now the head coach at Incarnate Word comes to mind immediately.

looks like he had a pretty good game against Oregon and an OK game against CU...not sure what the Utah depth is or where he was on the chart

512 yards is not too bad if he was not the #1 back and shared time at #2 or lower on the chart

Wells has pulled in some transfers that look like they will make an immediate contribution so far

here are the 4 I can think of so far

https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/texastechredraiders/2018/12/19/ex-nevada-wr-mclane-mannix-transfers-texas-tech

the receiver was picked up before signing day, but will be new to Tech next season

here are the three others

https://www.apnews.com/31940b6d47e64c498afb00593283e266

Utah RB, Penn State DB, and Cal hybrid BD/LB

Tech also picked up a late recruit that bumped them up a number of spots in the rankings

https://247sports.com/player/dequan-watts-46050267/

story is he needed some scores to come in and made the cut and signed.....he has a pretty nice list of offers....nice to see Tech with a coach that takes recruiting seriously at all much less all year long

the DT was one of the knuckleheads that was recently suspended he played a lot last year Tech needs him, but it seems he has a shitty attitude and will probably wash out somewhere else

the OLine guy it sounds like was not going to get playing time (which Tech always needs lineman, but if he was not going to get time well...)

Tech can probably afford to lose a few receivers especially if they can swap them out for immediate needs like the defensive and offensive lines

and damn Carter McLane McLane Carter.....Rutgers?.....guy just wants to go somewhere where he can get on the field no matter how bad they lose and how bad he gets the shit knocked out of him
