Ovie was one of the worst players I noticed last year. When he or Jett Bush were playing edge, it seemed like it was giving the other team 8 yards minimum. They could not play their position. And they rarely hurried passers. Pass rushing specialists at best.

I will gladly eat my words if he’s even serviceable. But it’s foreboding to hear of how well he’s doing in practice. It’s like, who’s his competition? Is our line that bad? Dude wouldnt get TFLs or sacks if he was playing touch football.

The fact that he just got here last fall was something I didn’t remember. There is a chance he’s gotten much improved in that case, not a good one, but still a chance.

Next weekend can’t get here soon enough.

Yeah the idea that Ovie is one of our top 10 players does not make me feel better.

Ready to feel better? None of the 9.95ers know shit about the actual progress of the roster from fall camp.

You would think a couple of years at Notre Dame would have been enough experience to know not to sprint upfield from the edge like a lunatic on every play, regardless of whether it’s a pass or a run that you’re opening up for a big gain.

Of course, you’d also think someone that sprints upfield every play regardless of whether it’s a run or pass would get to the QB for more than the 2 sacks he registered last season.

I haven’t looked into his experience at notre dame at all, but last year was definitely a brutal one for him

FWIW - per PFF, Ovie improved from a 59.4 grade at Notre Dame in 2020 to a 65.9 at Texas in 2021.

Don't tell the football experts at Surly that. Same people that said Colt peaked his sophomore year and it was time to move on and let Chiles start

IIRC, he was generally well thought of at ND and they didn't want to lose him. Fans liked him. It would be similar to us losing.... um.... well we don't really have an apples to apples comparison on defense I guess.

Question for @Sawbonz ? The typical recovery time for an athlete with an ACL tear is 6 months, right? I assume college athletes need surgery no matter the grade. But does recovery time vary based on the grade? Just wondering if a football player can get back to the field any faster than 6 months.

It’s not accurate.

Let me guess, big Westlake fan, are you?

Hey, I know his family so if he does well maybe one of his uncles and I can get prime seats easier. I always dig those 50 yard liners right where the shade from the upper deck starts.

freshman, Cole Hutson is going to be good by the end of the year. They were okay with moving Junior to play him, that tells you something. I personally think Jake Majors is going to surprise people this season.

So, they were going to bench Majors in favor of a true freshman, but the guy still thinks Majors is going to surprise people (I'm assuming in a good way)?

What the fuck ever... I'll believe it when I see Majors not get pushed around all game.

He most memorable memories are of Colt and Shipley. Just makes hit you in the face that it has been to freaking long since Vince ran it into the corner of that end zone.

Again, without actually reading any of it, I gather from the summaries he’s claiming we will be running quarters and that it (a) will be different from what our defense has done recently starting with the year we had Ash (who runs quarters) and (b) the main vulnerability will be the deep ball because we won’t have deep safeties?  No deep safeties … in quarters coverage.

I’m sure he explains it at length, but whatever.

That is when I quit reading. Too vulnerable deep in quarters? Cue up the Jackie Chan “my mind is full of fuck” meme

Yeah, we do and almost did. It would have been like Barron portaling to Oregon.

Ovie has the tools to be good. If he could just learn how to contain the edge, then he’d be at least decent. Problem is, he was failing to contain just as bad against KSU as he was against Arkansas. There was basically no improvement from him all season, and that’s something that can easily be improved mid-season. Hopefully PK has been able to get through to him this offseason.

Run grade a little better. He’s capable as a run defender. His problem comes when he loses discipline, caused by mental lapses rather than physical failures. See Baylor’s long TD run. A Wtf moment if you’ve ever seen one.

Almost 20 years. We need some fresher moments. I bit the bullet and got tickets for my sons to some games this year, hoping they will see something that gets them into Longhorn Football.

We are going to see the birth of the next great Longhorn Quarterback.

Omeire has already taken 12mos recovery time -- he injured his knee last August.

Second injury - and he's been practicing for quite awhile but they are being cautious with him and having him sit out pretty often (per the .95'ers).

Jaden Alexis injured his knee at the end of camp last year and still hasn't had a full practice yet - it was also Alexis' second knee injury.

ACL tear is pretty much all or nothing, no real grading like with other ligament injuries. Some athletes can play with an ACL deficient knee though but most will “pivot” with cutting and deceleration so need surgery. 6 months is getting more common but usually still more like 9-12 months in most cases. Coming back too soon has higher rate of re-rupture.

Gilbert, Swoops, and Buechele had high hopes coming in, sure, but the rest of those guys just ended up in the job. Some were good and some were bad but claiming they are comparable to the situation Ewers is in is a little weak, besides them playing the same position.

Any reason Sam Ehlinger got left out? If you consider him the last great UT QB then we have only been waiting one year.

I took my 3 little boys to the Kansas game last year to give them the suite experience and a Texas experience in which they were sure to see a win. While leaving at halftime with the score 14-35, they tried to stamp us.

I said, “why do you need to stamp us?” To which they responded “so you can get back in.”

My response: “Oh, I think we’ve seen enough, thanks. “

Anyway, good luck with the game and your kiddos.

Where can I send my money?

Seriously you should create a series of these printed glass or metal or canvass.  Our wives would thank you for adorning the wall of their homes with your regarded masterpieces.

Taking my baby cousins to the Alabama game. We might lay a fat egg but I figure the environment itself might get them invested.
