I maintain it's more a reflection of how weak we've been on OL for years than how good Banks is.Ā

I mean. He's admittedly VERY good.

But do you think he starts at Bama or Georgia?

Prob not as a True Freshmen, I'd agree with you. But definitely could in a year or two.

(Although actually Bama's OL wasn't that great last year and they took a transfer LT from freaking Vandy to shore it up)

Nahlin has been absolutely shit the past year or so

This is false when it comes to recruiting. Again, actual team and team decisions will not be known or scooped before this admin/staff wants them to be. I wouldn't blame the guys who are using some of their sources the way they used to. It's newish, but also hilarious and healthier for the team (for now). If this admin doesn't actually put out results then it becomes toxic and actually makes them look incompetent.Ā

Before everyone gets too excited, Iā€™d just like to point out that since being named the starter, Ewers hasnā€™t won a single game.Ā

Lol. Seriously though, this decision basically just kicks the Surly meltdown down the road until after the Bama game when Ewers doesn't look like a Heisman winner already

But Coburn isn't necessarily saying he should start. He's just commenting on how ahead of the others he is. To be fair you are also right about the reflection of our own OL. He hasn't seen many freshman 5 star OL at Texas.

Pretty sure Evan Neal started at Bama as a true freshman. He was rated a little higher than Banks but still, it happens.Ā

This should not have come as a surprise. Darius Terrell reported the other day, confirmed by the open practice, that they were running different sets for Ewers in the 11 on 11 portion. That says a lot about Card that they only trusted him to run 3 step drops and nothing else.Ā Ā

No, preventing leaks is always a good thing for an organization. If they don't produce results then it's the not producing results that makes them look incompetent, not the tight lid on info.Ā

Per OB (War Room):Ā

Ā  Hide contents

In a dramatic turn of events, it appears that Quinn Ewers has won over the the mind of Sark and the offensive staff to begin the season as QB1.

Ā

We previously broke exclusive intel here just one day ago claiming that the job of being the prized pistol puller for the horns opener had all but slipped away from the heralded transfer. We stand by that story, and we stand by our sources. As we have stated many times before, things can change at the drop of a hat in this industry. The last 24 hours have done just that.Ā
Ā

Per sources close to the team: ā€œWhat happened last night/this morning was something you only see in moviesā€. Weā€™re told that with the staffs decision to roll with Card for the opener, they got an early start to gameplanning for ULM. Due to Cards recent emergence as being more vocal, along with his improved footwork this off-seasonā€¦ā€¦. The ā€œchatter and patterā€ package began to be constructed as a wrinkle to their current offensive scheme.Ā
Ā

Weā€™re hearing that this package encouraged player input to help the cohesiveness of team building (which this staff has prioritized this off-season). On a dry erase board, they had 4 plays already finalized. It was left up overnight. Hereā€™s where things get interesting!!! This morning Ā our sources confirmed that upon the staff arriving to work today, the dry erase board was completely full. The plays worked on yesterday remained, but there were 350 additional play designs added. One source we spoke to claimed that Sark said heā€™d never seen something so ā€œintricate and innovativeā€.Ā
Ā

Weā€™re told that when Sark inquired as to who was responsible for the offensive genius presented before him, Ā coaches and staff all denied having anything to do with it. However, at the very bottom of the dry erase board the phrase ā€œMr. NIL with the mudflap tailā€ was written in cursive. The coaching staff was in disbelief. This whole off-season, they were irritated and disappointed in Ewers lack of urgency for learning the playbook. Little did they know, their playbook was just too simplistic for Quinn. After an hour long meeting, the staff decided that Quinnā€™s plays were better, and decided that he was deserving of the title QB1.Ā

Some things are more valuable than others when it comes to qb play. Even IF card checked off a lot of boxes for the dump off game and barking or whatever, those arenā€™t as important as deep ball accuracy. If we can hit the deep ball, we can keep the defense honest and run the ball. If all we can do is short /intermediate stuff and dump offs, weā€™ll get shut down bc everything is in the same place in the field.

Hitting the deep ball is like having a big hog, it makes up for a lot of other deficiencies. Iā€™m sure ewers will learn to dump it off when a play breaks downā€¦
