Rat sets land mine-sniffing record

Quote

Apopo, which is based in Tanzania, currently has 104 rodent recruits, or HeroRATS, as the non-profit likes to call them.

The rats are trained to sniff out chemicals that are found in landmines and other weapons abandoned on battlefields. Because of their small size, the rats are not heavy enough to detonate the mines.

The rats can check an area the size of a tennis court in about 30 minutes, the charity says, whereas a human with a metal detector might take four days to clear the same land.

When the robots become sentient, that dance is going to be like wearing blackface. That’s the only reason I don’t do it. Cuz I definitely could I wanted to.

Best comment from the thread was, I'm paraphrasing now, "that dude will be cancelled in 30 years"

Remember the Onion Creek neighborhood that got flooded and then abandoned?

I was just scrolling through Google maps because of something I was reading about sparked my interest, and I found a spot where the street view hasn't been updated. Right at the intersection of Onion Creek Dr and Wild Onion Dr it still shows the neighborhood as it used to be, but one click in any direction and you see what it is now.
