Loser cunt Kari Lake is holding Trumpy rallies now

Things aren't going well for MAGA Republican Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake. The most recent polling has her opponent, west Phoenix Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego up by double digits. Internal emails from top Arizona Republicans show less-than-confidence in Lake's chances to take the Senate seat held by Democrat turned independent Kyrsten Sinema, who isn't running for re-election.

Lake, whose resume only includes losing to current Governor Katie Hobbs, has doubled down on violent rhetoric, election denialism, palling around with white supremacists, and committing the cardinal sin of Arizona GOP: trash talking the legacy of John McCain, who is still heavily revered in the Grand Canyon State.

Most recently, Randy Kendrick, wife of Arizona Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick, and a major player in the state party, sent an email to a group of fellow Republican donors stating that Lake "can't win," and urging her fellow Republicans to quickly accept that fact.

"I have tried to help [Lake] and worked on this, and apparently cannot overcome it. There is no time for blame or analysis. These are just the facts," Kendrick wrote.

On Thursday, Cook Political Report showed that the electoral race in Arizona, along with Nevada and Georgia, had flipped from "leaning Republican" to "toss up" after Vice President Harris moved to the top of the Democratic ticket and selected Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

Then, Gallego announced the stunning endorsement of his candidacy from 40 prominent Arizona Republicans and independents, led by Mesa Mayor John Giles, who also this week announced the creation of the group Arizona Republicans for Harris.

"As a lifelong Arizonan and longtime Republican, I strongly believe in defending democracy and standing up for our personal freedoms," Giles said. "Donald Trump and J.D. Vance represent the greatest threat to American values and institutions that I have seen in my lifetime — and that’s why I am committed to defeating him in November."

Spoiler

Among the state GOP now backing Gallego is Paul Hickman, the former state director for McCain, who, in an apparent move to avenge his late boss, recently torched Lake in statement:

It pains me to see Kari Lake use our state as a political pawn, to the detriment of our business community. Like my former boss, Ruben [Gallego] has spent decades serving his country and state. And in the Senate, I trust that Ruben will work with those of different backgrounds to make compromises, not spectacles, and continue to always put Arizona first.

All of the above has apparently sent the Lake campaign into full-blown panic mode. On Tuesday, Lake announced on X that she would be holding a "Democrats for Lake" event to counter the massive showing of GOP support for Gallego. Lake's post, typically dripping with MAGA victimhood, attacked the media while simultaneously asking them to provide her with free press:

Hello Media— We see how you have given Kamala and her favorite liberal congressman Ruben Gallego so much news coverage of their “Republicans” for Kamala/Ruben/America Last press conferences. We ask that you give us equal coverage of our event coming Thursday. It’s called Democrats/former Democrats for Kari Lake & America First. Clear your schedule and we’ll let you know the time/place to meet us. I promise this will be eye-opening.

Lake's campaign never publicly announced the time or place of the event, which by Thursday had devolved into a hastily thrown together press conference. Lake arrived 15 minutes late to a podium decorated with a pre-JD Vance Trump lawn sign, not a Kari Lake for Senate sign.

Lake stood in front of roughly three dozen supporters facing a bank of cameras which she referred to as "enemy lines." She was joined at the podium by MAGA Reps. Eli Crane and Andy Biggs, apparently bolstering the legitimacy of the event as two people who have actually won their elections.

In an apparent move to counter the 40 Republicans who endorsed her opponent, Lake then introduced three members of the crowd standing behind her whom she stated were former or current Democrats who would be voting for Donald Trump this year.

Each spoke for less than 5 minutes in heavily scripted tones that echoed Republican grievances on the economy and "wokeism," and included Lake politicizing the death of one of her supporters' children from fentanyl poisoning.

Then Lake took questions from the press for 20 minutes and predictably attacked the reporters despite them taking time out of their day to cover the hastily cobbled together press conference that likely did nothing to move the needle on Lake's crumbling campaign.

Despite never having won an election, Lake has tried to position herself as a leader in the Arizona Republican party and the MAGA movement overall. Lake built her reputation on election denialism after losing the 2022 governor race; a move that threw her into Donald Trump's orbit and even saw her briefly discussed as a potential Trump running mate.

But when Lake decided to run for Senate, her grievance messaging of a stolen governor's race suddenly evaporated, as did her proximity to the Trump inner circle. Now that her numbers have plummeted and leading Republicans in her state are turning to the Democrat rather than back her politics of fear and dysfunction, Lake appears to be making a desperate play for a position in the Trump White House.

But Lake and MAGA have bigger things to worry about than just losing the open Arizona Senate seat. If current polling trends, along with Trump's toxic hold on the party remain, they may lose the state.

Last I checked, the doors are still open at Baylor.  They haven't been very rapey lately, either, so they could probably use the help.

AZ-Sen

While Republicans continue to hope that far-right conspiracy theorist Kari Lake can flip Arizona's open U.S. Senate seat, the Arizona Republic's Ronald Hansen reports that major donors and outside groups aren't investing much to aid her in what's become an uphill battle against Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego.

Hansen, citing data from AdImpact, writes that Lake and her allies have reserved $12 million in ad time, which is less than a fifth of the $65 million that Gallego's side has booked. And though Donald Trump endorsed Lake, a former TV anchor who continues to deny her 2022 loss to now-Gov. Katie Hobbs, other Republicans aren't so enamored of her.

That list includes Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who notably did not mention Arizona as a top pickup opportunity in an April interview with Politico's Burgess Everett. When Everett asked him about the omission, McConnell responded, "You don't know in April who might be able to win." A few weeks later the Senate Leadership Fund, a powerful super PAC run by McConnell's allies, left the Grand Canyon State off its list of states where it was reserving ad time.

Lake has done little in the ensuing months to convince her intraparty critics that she can flip the seat held by retiring Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, an independent who remains a member of the Democratic caucus almost two years after leaving the party. If anything, she seems just as focused on her last race: Last month, she asked the state Supreme Court to order a redo of the 2022 gubernatorial election in Maricopa County.

A few weeks later, Lake won the July 30 primary for her current race by an unimpressive 55-40 margin against Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, who had little money and lacked his opponent's considerable name recognition.

Lake insisted to reporters afterward that she'd scored a "landslide victory" even though she "didn't spend a penny" on her primary. But though Lake did indeed avoid attacking Lamb on the air, she started spending plenty of pennies in May on commercials hitting Gallego and portraying herself as a border security hawk.

It's possible that well-funded GOP organizations could still charge in on Lake's behalf, but the longer they wait, the more it will cost them. That's because campaigns and outside groups have a major incentive to make TV reservations well ahead of time so they can lock in cheaper ad rates before high demand brings prices up closer to Election Day.

And that's going to be a serious concern in Arizona, a longtime GOP stronghold where Democrats have been gaining strength up and down the ballot in recent years. Thanks to those shifting political patterns, the state is hosting an unusually large array of competitive races this year, with very high stakes.

"There’s a lot of saturation of the airwaves, and that just ratchets up the cost even more," Inside Elections' Jacob Rubashkin told Hansen in explaining why it will only become ever more expensive for latecomers to make a dent on the airwaves. Hansen also notes that early and mail voting starts on Oct. 9, so Lake's erstwhile allies would need to act soon, before voters lock in their choices.

Yet despite her many flaws, Trump could still drag Lake across the finish line if he manages to defeat Kamala Harris in Arizona. A weak effort from Lake, however, could still hurt the GOP's efforts in the many close races where Republicans are on the defensive further down the ticket.

These include both chambers of the state legislature, where the GOP enjoys just a 16-14 majority in the state Senate and a similarly small 31-29 edge in the state House. Republicans have turned back several serious Democratic efforts to flip both chambers over the past several cycles, but Lake's problems could make their job all the more difficult at a time when they have little room for error.

Democrats are also once again targeting two GOP congressmen who only narrowly won in 2022: David Schweikert in the Phoenix-based 1st District and Juan Ciscomani in the 6th District around Tucson. In addition, Democrats have the chance to take their first majority on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors since 1968, while progressives are also working to pass an abortion rights amendment at the ballot box and unseat two conservative justices on the Supreme Court.

The folks who have not mattered politically in Arizona should be able to identify with the guy who never had a bed of his own until he went off to college. Kari Lake is a hustler and a fraud.

Good to see her campaigning for votes in Aggieland. Those will come in handy in ... Arizona.

I mean, it's a Saturday night about 8 weeks before the election.

She's going to move to Texas, just like Rittenhouse.

Trump picks hardline Republican Kari Lake to lead Voice of America

Dec 11 (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday said he was picking Kari Lake, a former news anchor and a hardline Republican who failed to win an Arizona Senate seat last month, to be the director of U.S. government-funded media outlet Voice of America.
Trump, in a post on his Truth Social site, said Lake will "ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media."
Lake, a strong Trump supporter who has echoed his false claims about fraud at the 2020 election, also lost the governor's race in swing state Arizona in 2022 and was previously an anchor at Phoenix-based Fox 10.
Voice of America (VOA) is an international media broadcaster that operates in more than 40 languages online and on radio and television.
During his first term in office, Trump clashed with VOA and accused it of amplifying Chinese propaganda after it showed a segment on a light show marking the reopening of Wuhan, the city where the coronavirus pandemic first emerged.
