funny part is, if Texas were to get its shit together, they'd all happily come back.

I know you don’t mean it this way, but the fact that some people actually have to leave isn’t funny to me and there are a lot of women, queer folk, and families that really have no choice.

We might need to figure out how to air condition the state, but, apart from politics, it indeed still has a lot to offer.

Texas can get its shit together, but we know the Republicans are going to try and wreck it on the way out - loot the cash register as they run out of a building they set on fire.

We would leave if we could, but still have a few more years (wife's retirement stuff), because we've got two small kids (well one small, one small-ish) and we are tired of all of the stupid MAGA shit, and tired of living in a place where we can drive for hours and hours and see the same fucking shit that we have at home, and tired of the shitty summer and fucked up power kids.  Before kids, we didn't care because it didn't affect us as much - on summer days, we were inside working, and it was easier to travel (plus we didn't feel the desire to travel).  With kids, we'd like to be some place where we can drive a few hours and see something new and different and not have to explain a lot of stupid shit our government does.

I’m a straight, white, formerly proud native Texan.  Hell, I’m a native Houstonian.  I happened to be living in Manhattan when my first ex was pregnant with our second son and I sent her back to her parents before he was born so his birth certificate would have Texas on it.  If my current circumstances with my mom would even remotely allow it, I would pack my dog and my regarded daughter into my truck, hit the road and never look back.  I would head down the Pan-American highway and stop when I found a beach we liked.

I believe people were pointing that out in the thread. That the states the schools that were forfeiting were from were places that making a stink about it like Wyoming and Idaho and that this was all performative.

University of Nevada committed to playing vs. SJSU, but the players voted to forfeit.

NIL boost for each school that forfeits or do they do this for free? Most of these far-right gimmicks are backed by money.

Personally, I am surprised there is no punishment by the league/NCAA.

Imagine being a player and voting to forfeit. What an incredibly bitchmade move.

SJSU is tied for third in the conference but is on a three-game losing streak. All these forfeits might just work to keep them in the title chase.

In my opinion, a primary strategy of the largely astro-turfed transgender panic agenda is to divide women against each other... to dampen women's growing turn away from Republicans and their crusade against reproductive rights.

kinda tracks with amping up CRT after gutting voting rights

AG Ken Paxton sues North Texas doctor accused of providing gender-affirming care

Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing a North Texas doctor for allegedly providing gender-affirming care to nearly two dozen patients after the state’s ban took effect last September.

In the suit announced Wednesday, Paxton claims that Dr. May Lau, Children’s Medical Center Dallas’ adolescent and young adult clinic medical director and a professor at UT Southwestern, violated Senate Bill 14 by prescribing testosterone to 21 patients after the law took effect Sept. 1, 2023.

The 35-page suit accuses Lau of writing prescriptions either after the law took effect or writing them with orders to refill prescriptions after the law took effect. It refers to Lau as a "scofflaw" and "radical gender activist," and maintains that each violation is a separate ground for the revocation of her license.

KERA has reached out to Children's Medical Center and UT Southwestern for comment.

Paxton said the state will continue to prosecute doctors who continue to provide “harmful ‘gender transition’ drugs and treatment.”

“Texas passed a law to protect children from these dangerous unscientific medical interventions that have irreversible and damaging effects,” Paxton wrote in a statement.

SB 14 outlaws gender-affirming health care for children, which can include puberty blockers; therapy using hormones such as estrogen and testosterone; and surgeries.

The law also directs the Texas Medical Board to revoke the medical licenses of those who violate it.

Texas families of trans children and various organizations filed a lawsuit to prevent SB 14 from going into effect. A Travis County judge granted a temporary injunction, but the state’s swift appeal to the state Supreme Court overturned the ruling. The court in June upheld the law.

Safety? How is a volleyball player’s safety threatened by a member of the other team? Are they afraid someone will spike the ball too hard at them?

I realize they’re just quoting political rhetoric. But it’s volleyball. Same thing with swimming. Your ignorance and bigotry aside, how can you claim with a straight face that your safety is threatened by a supposed male competing against you?

You're just washing your hands in the restroom. "You're disgusting!"

I only come to this thread occasionally because it's such a horrible reflection of the kind of idiocy-fueled hate and intolerance finding its way to, to paraphrase Obama, acceptability. And I'm merely a witness to it.

Tolerance is a low bar for a society to clear in order to work better.

Recognizing that the medical community and medical professionals are better judges of what qualifies as science than a turd with arms and legs such as Paxton or Cruz or Abbott is a low intelligence bar to clear.

Mind your own business is a fine old America saying. If we're to go back to something, let's go back and snatch that motto then apply it broadly.

And it was still pretty damn hot, lol. It’s always a huge event. Last time I tried to take my kids it was too much for them, couldn’t find a good spot. Way bigger than even the Christmas parade. The county will still vote red but there are a ton of good people here doing good work.

Austin Pride being in August is fucking bullshit

The only reason we ever heard when I was involved with HRC was that the students were coming back to campus and in June they are gone. Don’t care make it fall or spring.
