When talking about surviving you gotta take what you can get - that law points to physicians not to patients. So healthcare will be banned but maybe it’s semantics but being trans isn’t illegal in that bill. So once again, if you have the means, resources and/or creativity you can get care out of state, out of country, or even DIY through underground methods. Sucks donkey ass but there’s still a way.

Insurance is dead though under this bill. procedures of any kind will be out of pocket though making them unattainable for most trans Texans. Meds are a different story and more affordable at probably $30-80 per month. But you still have to find them.

Texas A&M System bans drag shows from its universities

The move potentially sets up a new First Amendment fight between students and university administrators.

The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents on Friday passed a resolution banning all drag performances from taking place on its 11 university campuses.

This means that Draggieland, a beloved annual event scheduled for March 27 at the Rudder Theatre on the College Station campus, will have to find a new venue. Students have also held drag shows at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and East Texas A&M University.

The move potentially sets up another First Amendment fight between students and university administrators.

The resolution says the board recognizes the need for universities to foster a sense of community and belonging among students but adds that drag shows are “inconsistent with [the system’s] mission and core values, including the value of respect for others.”

The resolution also says drag shows are “likely to create or contribute to a hostile environment for women,” contrary to university and federal anti discrimination policies.

Pretty much the exact same play book. I’d say it will be hard to pass a ban on being trans but I wouldn’t put it past them. Was only the 90s when gay sex was still criminally illegal.

I’m not sure there’s another group that loves and reveres women more than drag queens. Such fucking lies

Because drag queens are some of the wittiest/funniest cunts out there. They were more than likely bullied growing up so they know how to read a bitch. They celebrate femininity

Authored by Brent Money, who is one of Paxton’s hand selected reps.

He also wrote HB 2197 that defines life as beginning at fertilization, which if passed, will end IVF in Texas and possibly certain forms of contraception.

Another aspect of the cruelty and inhumanity towards trans people: the prison systems are starting moves towards force transwomen into mens prisons. They're taking away their chest bindings for transmen and forcing them to dress femininely. At this point, medical care is still happening, but this is how it starts.

I finally got off my dead ass and did at least something. I just signed on with GLAAD with a small monthly contribution. I'll get more out of this than the organization. I'm not just sitting around writing posts for people who agree with me (don't get me wrong, I love doing it), I've done a little something that will likely lead to other little somethings.

I'm not virtue signalling. I'm not making much of a sacrifice, but my name is on something at least. Feels really good.

Pretty much.  Took me a while to come around - mostly ignorance, fear and inward focus - But give me drag queens over just about any other form of human and I’d be just fine.

To what degree of uncertainty about one's manhood (manly manfulness for all to see!) must one be to feels threatened by spectrum-like sexual identities and feel urged to punish people at a distance. Everybody has the right to feel revulsion about something, but you've got to meet the low bar of tolerance to be civilized.

I suppose another aspect of the cruelty is that these persons are in prison so their lives and day to day existence are nothing. I wish I could go back in time to kick Ronald Reagan in the nuts. The whole "get tough" solution to everything starts with him. He'd kick my ass, but it would be worth it.

A surprisingly well-researched and well-written article in the Statesman about a pretty thoughtful-sounding cisgender male state employee with exemplary performance reviews getting fired (legally questionable on First Amendment grounds) for refusing to delete his pronouns from his sig-line in emails.

Employee refused to remove pronouns from email signature. A Texas agency fired him for it.

“I could not, in good conscience, contribute to those actions in any way — no matter how small," Zamora told the Statesman.

"I'm talking about pronouns," Frank Zamora says of being fired for using "He/Him" on an email signature because he was born male and identifies as such. "That someone should be fired over it, that it's become this politicized and this weaponized, is not only ridiculous, but a little bit laughable.”

At the same time, the 32-year-old feels his firing and the agency directive bear a sense of the absurd.

“There have been multiple occasions when I stop and I ask myself, 'Is this really happening?’” he said in an interview two weeks after he was fired. “I mean, I'm talking about pronouns. That someone should be fired over it, that it's become this politicized and this weaponized, is not only ridiculous, but a little bit laughable.”

****

Two weeks after being fired, Zamora doesn’t regret his decision. He said that, although the directive "wasn’t the largest-scale attack on trans and nonbinary voices" in Texas, it was an opportunity to stand up for those who might feel erased by the policy.

He cited a peer-reviewed study by the Trevor Project, an LGBTQ+ advocacy group, which found that states that passed anti-trans laws on average saw a 72% increase in suicide attempts among trans and nonbinary youth.

"If we continue this rhetoric of trans erasure, then we are playing a very dangerous game with the lives of our children,” he said.
In contrast, Zamora said, he doesn't see how his display of pronouns "presents any kind of danger to public correspondence."

Pronouns in an email - more likely than not - signals to people like me that if they were to find out about my status things would not change or be impacted.  Some may have been be forced to oblige but most did so voluntarily. It’s kinda of a big deal.

so far the two bills I care most about H3399 and S84 haven't progressed. Plenty of time for fuckery, but 11pm checks about once a week and their status has remained the same. fingers crossed.

If that's enacted, on Sept 1 we should find some petty state form that's online and have every right thinking person in the state fill out that form checking off the box for the wrong sex. I cannot think of a simpler form of demonstration against these petty but lethal bits of legislation.

I'm so glad that the major news outlets local and national have focused on egg prices as a prime reason for the election of cruel tyranny. It's so nice and safe and kinda funny. They have run to a safe, snug little harbor in order to ignore the ugly storm of what the elections really meant about the electorate. Let's ask the questions here:

What kind of people are moved to vote in such representation? Well, we hope they'll watch the show, so we don't want to alienate them.

You're already a public enemy as far as they're concerned! We've been covering politics [the exact same way] for decades. I think we know what we're doing.

Do you have any duty to truth? I can't believe you ask that question! We're a news organization! Show him out!

I prefer third person plural, so "them." Eyes roll. Laughter ensues. Somebody checks corporate rules to see if their national news organization may be liable for fraud.

The young man who risked and lost his job without remorse articulated exactly the tyranny-in-the-details that acquiescence to normalizes tyranny by the rulers and intolerance among the ruled. He's out of work which is a measure of his sacrifice.

And now this:

How much do you need, Wolf? You can go from an annoyingly voiced hack delighted to be in the newsroom heaven of not reporting news to be a journalist of substance by insisting your tiresome panels take on bigger questions than the price of eggs and how the stupid Dems let the tyrants Trumpists in.

You can start by using words like tyranny. You can embrace that word far faster than you ever could bring yourself to call Trump's iterations lies.

You could get fired over priniciple like Frank Zamora. You could enter your cushy retirement something of a hero even if your sacrifice was relatively little.

Perhaps I spend too much time running my razor over the news outlets. I'm just surprised at low the "journalists" have fallen in my lifetime. We've got a bigger story than Watergate with all the foreign money openly flowing to Trump. Nary a whisper from the panels.

Eggs. It's all about the eggs.

if this passes I will change my DL back to M and never ever say I'm a woman in writing or verbally to the state or local government. I'll comply as an act of defiance because what they want is for me to say I'm a woman so they can throw me in jail. nope, not going to happen.

my wife, my son or a third party will drive me everywhere - like a fucking boss - and I will not voluntarily interact with the the state or local government unless I'm clear about what I'm saying or providing and it's clear my message is straight forward and simple -- "I'M A MAN, I'M OVER FORTY!!!!"

I'll likely erase my online persona too. get as low as fucking possible.

Alternative is to abandon my kids and move.

my hope is the retroactive DL, the ban on healthcare and this state jail felony bill all fail.  the only real hope is simply too many higher priorities and not enough time. it's a tried and to this point true strategy for progressives in Texas ... run out the clock on the legislative session.

If it passes, I'll have 3 months to get my ducks in a row to comply and reorganize my life. should be doable. sheesh.

I’m taller than most men, not sure I’d be fucked with.

but what I’ll probably do is avoid gendered restrooms in government buildings which is where it becomes a risk. Pee before you go, stop at Starbucks and buy shit to use theirs. Stuff like that.

A black cisgendered woman was doing her personal business in a Walmart bathroom, when she was confronted by police. Proving she was a cis woman did not end the humiliating experience.

Quote

A Black 19-year-old cisgender lesbian from Phoenix is demanding accountability after she was confronted by two male sheriff’s deputies in a Tucson Walmart women’s restroom last week.

Arizona resident Kalaya Morton, who describes herself as a stud, or masculine-presenting woman, says the deputies were called by a store employee who allegedly assumed she was a transgender woman.

In an exclusive interview with The Advocate, Morton detailed the humiliating and distressing encounter. She said that she had entered the restroom with her ex-girlfriend, who handed her a tampon, when two male deputies stormed in, shining flashlights into the stall and demanding she exit. Morton, still using the toilet, was stunned.

They were flashing lights on our feet and saying, ‘You have to get out of here. You have to come out. We need to talk to you,’” Morton said. “I’m telling them, ‘I’m still using the restroom. I’m sitting down, I’m peeing. What is the issue?’”

When she finally exited the stall, she said she lifted her shirt to prove she was not a man, expecting the ordeal to end. Instead, she said one deputy continued to question her appearance, insisting she “looked like a man.” Morton started recording, later posting a 9-second clip to TikTok, where it has since been viewed more than 3.7 million times. “They came in here in the girls’ restroom because I’m a girl and they didn’t think I was a girl, so they tried to come take me away,” she says in the video.

The only men in the women’s restroom were the cops,” Morton told The Advocate. “That’s what makes this so frustrating. If you think a man is in the restroom, why send male officers instead of female officers?”
