This is a man. He's over 40. He's a man.

And if we're being really truly honest, a lot of people can safely operate equipment at .1 BAC.

But holy shit, to actually say that in his position?  This is a man who has repeatedly demonstrated that he gives absolutely 0 fucks what his employer thinks about anything because he knows he's untouchable.  This is the definition of "beyond reproach".

That's true too. This was a horrible time and place. This was a situation about teaching accountability. He doesn't need to rationalize how he treats Gordon. We all get that he's a great player and that great players always get another chance. Shoulda used this opportunity to remind people that Uber exists and that driving even a little bit over the limit can't be accepted.

Goddamnit Mike. You’re not wrong, but come on, lol.  He made a better point earlier in the day when asked about Ollie. He said that it’s not the same as it was a few years ago, these guys are basically pros now, and things are different. He didn’t go into any more detail but the difference is seemingly that they’re not student athletes anymore playing sports to learn character or discipline, all that really matters is wins and dollars. Makes me wonder what will happen the first time a player is suspended for borderline bad conduct and loses an NIL deal. Will they blame the school? The conference? The NCAA? It could get real tricky with sexual assault allegations and Title 9, especially if they’re not prosecuted on criminal charges for the many reasons that often happens. It really is different now.

Mike is a sharp guy. I think he knew what he was doing. He is pulling the spotlight off of Ollie onto the guy who gives zero fucks and has made more money than he can ever spend already with a lifetime contract.

Have we all done it? Sure.  Do we tell our kids it's fine if they do it? Fuck no!

To be truthful it was 1.0  0.1 back in the 80's and Mom's against drunk driving were just starting to make a statement. So yea he probably done it 1K times because back then drunk driving was thought off a swerving so badly cop would see you and not in terms of three beers. Now does Ollie have the same excuse? Hell No! Everyone knows better now. So his mistake is comparing his young days to todays standards.

Dead without question....there was a hazing/alcohol death at UT in mid 80s (Seeburger sounds right or close) at .43. A guy on my floor got completely shitfaced and fell, had to go to the hospital for stitches and he was .41. The nurses had a bet going on his BAC. He didn't move for about 2 days after that

Nah, I think it was full on foot in mouth disease that pops up with him from time to time. If that was his plan then he went over the top and botched the execution. Nevertheless, nobody will give a shit in a few weeks. Hopefully an SEC dumbass will say something stupid next week, come on Kiffin, you’re up!

His shtick is tired.

Gundy getting his "dream job" at his alma matter so early has probably worked against him in the long run. OSU took a chance on him as a young--and cheap--up 'n comer. He punched above his weight class early on, then had sustained success at a mid-tier school & was annually mentioned on the "potential next HC" list. But ever since he played footsie w/ Tennessee (and that looks more & more likely as if he just wanted more assurances from the Pokes' AD) he's been a company man.

Unfortunately he's obviously hit his limit. And the NIL era isn't going to be kind to him or schools like oSu. He probably would have been better suited to have jumped at a bigger school 10-15 years ago where he might have had a chance at greater success. Then he could have returned as the conquering hero to Stillwater if he wanted to finish his coaching days there.

I'll call BS on this.  Gundy could have left him at home and not said a word, and no one would be talking about him much until maybe the first game he's back.  But now he's getting blasted all over for saying what he said.  I'd have forgotten all about the Ollie DUI if not for his Media Days stunt.

Honestly I remember times back in college it was a bitch to find a cab.  And no I wasn’t a saint…  Todays day and age Uber is a 15 min wait at most and usually much less than that for 90% of the people in this country.  No excuses.

Uber should offer a modest NIL contract to all college athletes with a few bucks and a free NIL code to use anytime. They can ask a few of the athletes to do commercials for them as part of a public safety campaign.

Oklahoma State football's adjusted emphasis on tight ends shows in 2025 recruiting class

Quote

STILLWATER — A few years ago, Oklahoma State had some good tight ends, but no real tight ends.

In the 2019-20 seasons, the Cowboy tight end roster looked something like this:

Jelani Woods, a converted quarterback.

Logan Carter, a walk-on who played offensive tackle and defensive end in high school.

Dayton Metcalf, a walk-on who was a high school quarterback.

Braden Cassity, a converted defensive end.

All four were viable players who provided value in different areas.

Woods ultimately went on to be drafted by the Indianapolis Colts and is entering his third year in the NFL. Carter was ultra-reliable and Metcalf was a consistent performer when called upon.  Cassity was young back then, but developed into a stalwart blocker who could occasionally catch some passes, too.

All four were solid players, but none of them came to OSU as tight ends.

That’s a change in coach Mike Gundy’s recruiting philosophy over the last couple of years as his offense has begun to lean more heavily on help from that position — and the 2025 recruiting class is another step in that direction.

With few exceptions, the Cowboys focused throughout the majority of the 2010s on trying to minimize their recruiting investment in the position, looking for players who were physical with good size and could be molded into the role.

It worked out with guys like those mentioned above and a few others along the way, like Blake Jarwin, who walked on after a strong high school career at Tuttle.

But particularly after the struggles OSU faced offensively in 2022, Gundy’s focus turned to getting more from the tight end.

Last year, OSU turned to the transfer portal to get an instant infusion of talent at the position, led by UMass transfer Josiah Johnson. And he had a strong season, which catapulted him to an NFL free-agent contract after the draft in April.

The Pokes will try to replicate that with Ohio transfer Tyler Foster this season, a big, experienced player with one year of eligibility remaining.

Last December, the Cowboys signed Stillwater’s Josh Ford, who was one of the freshmen creating some buzz during spring ball because of his physical attributes.

The Cowboys currently have four tight ends on scholarship, all of whom played the position before coming to OSU.

And now, the 2025 class has a pair of commitments.

OSU landed Jordan Vyborny in early May. He’s a 6-foot-5, 230-pound recruit out of Draper, Utah, with good athletic traits who is polishing his tight end skills.

Just over a month later, the Pokes got a commitment from Isaiah Butler-Tanner out of Killeen, Texas. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder is among the top five highest rated recruits in the class, according to 247Sports, and has shown great versatility in high school.

Over the previous 12 recruiting classes, OSU has signed six tight ends from the high school or junior-college level.

Oklahoma State hires Sean Snyder to special teams role

JUL 17, 2024

Oklahoma State has hired former FootballScoop Special Teams Coordinator of the Year Sean Snyder to its special teams staff, the program announced Wednesday.

Snyder will coach Oklahoma State's kickers and punters.

“Sean brings years of experience with kickers and punters and special teams concepts,” Mike Gundy said Wednesday. “We’re really excited about what he brings to our coaching staff.”

Snyder played for his father at Kansas State, where he booted his way to the All-American team in 1992 by averaging 44.7 yards per punt. He left K-State as the school's all-time record holder, clearing 43 yards per punt.

He was K-State's DFO from 1994-2010 before moving on field in 2011, where he instantly became one of the top special teams coaches in the nation. Prior winners selected him the FootballScoop Special Teams Coordinator of the Year in 2015, and Phil Steele bestowed his own honor upon him in '15 and 2017.

Snyder coached special teams at USC in 2020-21, at Illinois in 2022, and he served as the special assistant to head coach Lance Leipold at rival Kansas in 2023.

Snyder left Kansas in January to start a private kicking and coaching business.

This is a pretty damn good idea. Good work, man.

I think it could be improved by having an instant sign-on that can be used in the actual moment of need.

Write it off as "car trouble" - as in "If I drove my car, I could be in trouble".

Mike Gundy has a blunt message to players: Tell your agent negotiations are over

Mike Gundy is on the cusp of his 20th season atop the Oklahoma State football program, making him major college football's second-longest tenured coach and lending him rarified status for his two-decade run atop his alma mater.

Gundy has contributed to the game's evolutions with his innovative offenses and, despite myriad entreaties to leave, has remained loyal to the Cowboys.

He also has, refreshingly, continued to speak his mind.

Gundy's doing so again now as his Oklahoma State team sits 15 days from its season-opening home game against perennial FCS powerhouse South Dakota State before hosting former conference rival Arkansas.

Effectively, Gundy's saying bring it on. Just leave the off-the-field junk -- off the field till December.

Specifically, Gundy's not going to entertain any in-season talk of player compensation or NIL monies.

"The good news is the next five months, we can just play football. That's what I told the players. There's no negotiations now," Gundy told reporters. "The Portal's over. All the negotiations are history. Now, we're playing football. Just coaching and playing football."

Gundy acknowledged that talking de facto salaries with players is very much a real thing in today's college football -- but it's something not open for discussion in-season.

"The business-side of what we do now is, is we have to have those conversations with them," Gundy said. "Tell your agent to quit calling us and asking us for more money. It's non-negotiable now. It can start again in December.

"So, now we're able to direct ourselves just to football and that part is fun. Because there's been so much other stuff that's going on it's been hard to really focus on football."

While much of what players currently earn is subjective depending the funding and influence of collectives, genuine Name, Image and Likeness opportunities and other variables, Gundy doesn't think the current status quo is going to be the standard for long.

"All this is pretty intriguing right now. I think it's all gonna change again in less than two years, but it is what it is for now," Gundy said. "It's very intriguing. Everybody's waiting to see if she (U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken) signs off on this (NCAA revenue-sharing) settlement.

"Then, we'll have parameters and then we can start attacking how you distribute $20 million amongst 105 people. So it's very interesting to even think about that, almost unfathomable. That part is intriguing and somewhat fun to think of different ways you can do it."

I would think most coaches take that approach. He’s old school but a realist and is thankfully playing the game as it now exists but he’s damn right when the season starts just fucking play. If you do it right the extra money will be there in a few months.

On one hand, move on with your life and let some other dude take that roster spot. Cut your hair and get a job, hippy!

On the other hand, don’t ever grow up. Hang on and avoid the grind as long as you can, hook up with as many coeds as you can, and help a team win a title or something.

I looked it up. Both were in the SWC from 1915-1924. That was 100 years ago. Was the writer counting that?

Wow, good catch. Surely he can't be referring to that level of ancient history. Perhaps he recently watched European Vacation and had a vague memory of "Pig in a Poke," which prompted him to associate the two programs in a rival-based, angry sex kind of way.

As an old, the second hand is the correct hand.

You only get to bang out coeds once in your life…. Unless you’re Leo DiCaprio of course.

You can never go home…. Unless you’re Leo.
