Gundy is currently on a 5-year rollover contract, which extends by a season every Jan. 1. He earned $7.75 million in 2024.

Gundy's contract is set to lengthen by another season on Jan. 1, 2025, along with his annual $125,000 raise.

As of Dec. 1, 2024, Gundy would be owed $25,359,375 if he were to be fired, according to his contract obtained by the USA TODAY Network.

That number is 75% of what he's to be paid under two separate contract agreements, as he's under contract through Dec. 31, 2028, unless his current 5-year rolling contract is extended, which it's set to every Jan. 1 unless given notice.

Oklahoma State would pay Gundy in monthly installments until Dec. 31, 2028, if he was to be fired.

competing with the big boys is getting to be really expensive for smaller schools with smaller fanbases.  And once the schools have to also start paying players directly, the budgets are going to be even more fucked. Its gotta suck forking over $25M to shitcan  a coach when your athletic department already needs the university to allocate $13M. Tickets are going to get really expensive in Stillwater or their unis are going to start looking like nascar drivers with 27 sponsors plastered all over.

When your state economy is driven by meth sales, its hard to compete in todays NIL environment.

I think you’re underselling the Oklahoma economy. It’s not just meth. There is also stealing copper wire and selling it as scrap metal. Also, I Dian casinos. Also, legal cannabis products shops.

I suspect the coaches' salaries will significantly reduce at non-P2 teams. This means that coordinators at P2 may not be attracted by HC salaries at non-P2 places and may move only to build their resumes. Also, the OkSu-type teams may be better off having a good NIL and young/cheap coaches than the other way around.

T Boone had that kind of money in the cushions of his couch. They don't have their sugar daddy around anymore to bail them out.

How in the hell does a team play in a conference CG in 2023, return 23 of 24 starters, including all the key ones, return a coaching staff intact, and go 0-9 in conference (after starting 3-0, with a win over a bowl eligible SEC team)?

I thought the 1984 Longhorns had an incredible mid season collapse, but this may dwarf that.

He has accomplished a hell of a lot at OSU and put together some dangerous teams, but he seems checked out at this point. I watched the first 5 mins of his post game press conference, and if I was a fan of OSU I would be pissed. But I'm not, and think gundy is a f'n chode, so I laughed instead. It was basically 5 minutes of "our game plan was abysmal" delivered in a way that only a man with a $25mil buyout can do.

Every dime ever made from scrapping stolen copper has been spent on meth.

Somebody do a welfare check on @'stache. This is just embarrasing.

Shit happens. Considering we haven’t had a year like this since 2005 I’m not gonna act like we should be invulnerable to a shitty season. Gundy isn’t getting fired and the suggestion of it from inside and outside the fanbase is ridiculous. If he wants to retire I wouldn’t lose any sleep but he’s not getting fired and regardless of how you feel about him after this season you don’t fire a guy whose solely responsible for our current relevance because of one bad season. He needs new coordinators though and if he’s too stubborn to do it I’ll be pretty pissed and hope for the best knowing he’s not getting fired.

@'stache who's your AD these days? I know Holder had the balls (and backing of boosters, especially Pickens) a decade-plus ago to force Gundy to make changes like giving up play calling and hiring a dedicated OC. Does the new guy have the same level of juice to have the uncomfortable conversations w/ Gundy or does he have to play second banana to MG?

Next year will be interesting for both coaches In Oklahoma. If they both do bad I think both of them will get canned. OU is going to suck balls so there is no way Brent is not shown the door. But it will be crazy if both jobs come open.

I feel like I shouldn’t have to remind people what the program was like before Gundy (including his tenure as OC under Les Miles). You don’t can a guy who has literally transformed the program and made 18 straight bowl games over one bad season. I don’t think we made 18 bowl games in the 100 years before he came back to coach. I wish he’d manage his mouth a little better but I’ll take winning seasons over the alternative. The minute he’s gone we become a stepping stone job where half the hires will bust and the other half (if we’re lucky) have enough success and gets poached after 2-3 years.

I don't think anyone's arguing that Gundy hasn't lost his fastball or that he's equipped to be a successful coach in this era. Do oSu fans and alums expect CFP appearances? I'm guessing they'd be thrilled with being bowl eligible most years plus being in the mix for the occasional BXII CCG. They'll tolerate more clunkers than most, because as 'stache has repeatedly pointed out, they know that life post-Gundy is going to be shitastic.

Okay shit like this is ridiculous. Time to finish grad school and start a career. You're not going pro.

Get your bachelors degree

get your masters

get another bachelors degree

get another masters

GET. ANOTHER. BACHELORS. DEGREE.

get fully vested in the OSU ESOP to get a nice pay package when you complete your 10th season.

So it's a parody account but the fact that it seems legitimate is very telling. It's time to leave the nest. Does he have more degrees now than wins this season?

Maybe both head coaches should just swap schools!
