One of my good friends here in Texas is from your neck of the woods: St. Ansgar.

My wife says she is from “west central” Iowa. Just over an hour NE of Omaha, so closer to Omaha than Ames. And much closer to both than Iowa City. The percentage of people wearing Iowa State gear has increased drastically in the last 10 years. There is almost no Nebraska gear these days.

I almost went to school in St Ansgar.  The district line was a mile away.  That's where my dad, uncles and a lot of my cousins went (2 cousins, 1 aunt, and my grandparents all live in St Ansgar currently).  My dad just happened to buy a farm across the district line 3 miles away from the farm he grew up on and a different school bus came by.

I would definitely call your wife's area "west central Iowa".  Not sure how far she is from Logan, but I know that area a bit.  Dated a gal from there (definitely not your wife - this chick lives in Portland now).

About 40 miles east of Logan. She has family all through there, though. From Beebeetown to Dunlap to Denison and Carroll.

I was up last weekend. Was 48 degrees Sunday morning. 😍

Not surprising, but tells a lot by how few (if any) players or people wished Frost well or thought firing was wrong etc.  Usually there is at least someone in the fired coaches corner saying how they changed their life or appreciated the opportunity they gave them.

Everyone in Iowa is from Carroll.  Fact.

Yeah, it's been gorgeous lately.  Started cutting beans yesterday.  Gonna get a little muggy (90ish) early next week, but after that it looks like Fall is on.

I don't know if it's been posted in here, but there was a story floating around Twitter yesterday about how Frost blew off a recruiting visit where the kid had invited his whole extended family because he was drunk.  Ryan Day showed up a few days later and the kid committed to tOSU.

Why would anyone recruit a drunk kid? Musta still been drunk when Day showed up. Shoulda waited for a "sleepover" from Harbaugh.

Was that Dominic Raiola's kid?

I thought that was West Virginia. Not that Dana Holgerson gets confused about it.

Not even a little, but if given an opportunity to promote the underrated beauty of NEIA, I’m diving in

I tried to sell my wife on taking a trip to Dubque and NE Iowa this summer to prove that point.

I didn't realize the University of Nebraska is in Iowa.

State of Iowa talk not going away, is that where Scott Frost is going?

When we what up for Ricky’s game we drove across a bridge into Iowa so I could cross it off my list of states visited, turned right back around and headed home.

I spent a week working in Sioux City one January about 5 years back.  Right on the state line with Nebraska.

Told my travel person “put me in the nicest hotel - whatever that town has.”

I got

https://www.hardrockcasinosiouxcity.com

That hotel pumps strong air freshener and cigarette smoke into your room 24/7.  There was no rest.

Combine the worst parts of The movie Fargo with that movie where Billy Bob Thornton steals some money with his brothers.  Dark, grey, smelly and depressing.  Seriously - caused depression.

I’ll never do that again.

Just be glad they didn't put you in South Sioux where you can get the breeze from IBP to over power everything else.

I live in NE Iowa now.  I grew up about 40 miles west of where I currently live.

Doesn't seem like a significant distinction, but if you tell someone from east of Highway 63 that my hometown is in northeast Iowa, they would immediately balk and say something like "no, they're flatlanders".  NE Iowa is generally synonymous with Iowa's portion of the Driftless Area, which my hometown is not part of but my current town is.

If you divided Iowa into 4 quadrants, both my current town and home town are NE.  If you're distinguishing between East, Central, and West, they're on different sides of that East/Central line.

Personally, I divide Iowa into 9 quadrants.

Same. I’m from the northeast corner of north central Iowa in that system. I now live in the western part of northeast Iowa.

Northeast Iowa looks like the Ozarks. North central Iowa looks like, well, exactly what one expects Iowa to look like.

Yeah, Dubuque is low key cool as hell. Galena is right down the road if your wife is into that sort of thing. My wife goes down there and lights our bank account on fire every fall.

Couple more pages and we’ll have him camping in Al’s backyard.

Using Sioux City as the example of Iowa is like going to Dumas and saying, "This is Texas."

I blame myself…I got everyone hot and bothered on Iowa with this thread.

Also, I don’t give two shits about Scott frost but I love any and all Nebraska cornhusker fuckery and them looking like morons. They were the biggest bunch of butthurt pussies ever and they completely fucking ruined the sport with their lies and bullshit. May they rot in the irrelevant big 10 west forever and ever.

How about we start talking about South Dakota now?

There’s a lot less in SD than there is in Iowa. But the speed limit is 80 (as I recall).

My only trip to Dubuque I must have missed that part. But there were some cool old buildings.

I will tell you one place that is unequivocally uncool, Moline Illinois. There's like tumbleweeds in the streets a 10pm.

Haha; my husband tried to distract me with all the history of the area when we passed through. It's been awhile though. We would go various ways going to and from Wisconsin but always Dubuque because it's kinda cool. An even longer time ago, we stopped for brats at the Amana Colonies to break up the trip. We have friends who live in the Davenport area.

We have had fun hiking in the Black Hills. The caves are neat too. Plus the Corn Palace in Mitchell and of course, Wall Drug (which was not my bag).

A business associate took me there for supper back in the late 80s when I was in Iowa. They grew/raised everything they served and kept it coming, family style. I was highly impressed.
