It's the human condition. A new born baby will smile when it farts as will a 100 year old, and everyone in between. I can totally see the earliest of our evolutionary ancestors developing the capability of recognizing humor as a moment when one of them discovered that they can make loud noises with their buttholes that smell bad and waft it over to their hunting mates. I suspect that would also be the first time on of them developed a form of laugh grunt.
