Are we sure this isn't the aggy corps of cadets?

Too coordinated. Not enough nut squeezing or boot sliding.

That's retarded. What a participation trophy. At least they could have put up a sign reading "Fiesta Bowl Champs".

I don’t necessarily disagree, but how is it any different than our final four banners in basketball? Or touting cws appearances in non championship years?

Final four or elite 8 is driving pretty deep in a 64+ team tournament bracket.  The CFB is not a playoff system even remotely close to basketball.  This would be the equivalent of hanging a round-of-32 banner, saying we won the first round.

CWS appearances is the same thing.  To make it to Omaha requires tournament play.  Again, CFB is a lot of luck and a lot of politicking.  It's impressive they made it as far as they did, but to shit the bed and then hang the sheets in the stadium isn't exactly a great look to those that remember.

Good points.

Maybe they were more motivated to commemorate it because they also crapped the bed in the big 12 championship game. If they’d lost to Michigan they would probably just have forgotten about it but felt like they wanted to have something to point at.

Maybe Texas will make it to the playoffs some day.

If/and/or/when we do, there will be signage.  Sign O the Times

Meh. Just about every school has a place in their stadium that reflects the bowls that they’ve been to, not just those they’ve won.  TCU does, and doesn’t put up names of bowls they haven’t been to. It’s the same type of commemoration they have for other bowls.  They only have one Cotton Bowl, for example, despite multiple appearances (wins and losses) in the 50s.  The CFP doesn’t have a bowl name.

Technically they could have defended two different commemorations, CFP semifinal and CFP final.

Note: some schools put flags or bowl names up for every prestigious bowl to give alumni, students, visitors, and recruits the impression that the school has been to all of those, even if they haven’t (Baylor).
