The thing that always got me about this was not so much the spinning itself, or even the synched spin, but the picking arm/hand synch. An absolutely stunning band, every performance I saw, and all the audio and video recordings. The very simplicity of the Blues expanded exponentially, in every way.

Nobody benitted more financially from MTV than ZZ Top. But their best music was pre-Eliminator and its not even close.  You should check it out. Now I gotta run some damn kids off my lawn...

I'm talking about bands who had a pre-mtv career. Duran Duran had a career because of mtv

Duran Duran formed in 1977 and was so big by the time their "classic" lineup formed in 1980 they were the subject of a bidding war between two major labels to see who would sign them. Mtv wouldn't have its first broadcast until nearly a year later, and that was just one provider in New York.

Part of the reason Mtv featured them so much was because they'd been making high-production videos from the assloads of money they were making, to be put on the screens of the dance clubs where they came from.

I was getting ready to post the same thing.

That MTV era was very mediocre.

I dubbed them the disco band from hell.

Love the early stuff.

The first album is great and of course Tre Hombres is by far their greatest work.
