I've listened to a few podcasts / watched documentaries, and octopi are fascinating creatures. They have 3 hearts and 9 brains - one in the head and each tentacle. They can squeeze through any hole that's bigger than their beak. They are the masters of disguise, able to shape shift, change color, change texture, and escape by swimming or running. Female octopi will stay with their eggs until they hatch, which in some cases take over a year.

I've actually stopped eating them because I have a lot of respect for them... even though grilled octopus over charcoal with a splash of lemon juice is amazing.

Yeah, I have also quit eating them for the same reasons.

I realize that I'm pretty hypocritical because pigs are fairly smart too, but that's just an unfortunate bridge too far...

Octopus is Greek so the plural in English is either octopuses or octopodes (nuts). "Octopii" is a false latinization.

I watched "my octopus teacher" on netflix a few years ago, so you could say I'm a bit of an expert on our eight-legged friends.

I read a Sci-fi book that dealt with the descendants of octopuses in the far, far future. I'm not an expert. But oracle? Who's to say?

Pigs got personality, and that goes a long way.

Actually I can go without bacon, ham or pork chops.

But you can take carnitas from my cold dead fingers.

Thank you. I was waiting for an excuse to not go soft because the pulpo tacos are too fire. I'll continue eating our future overlords until they master the pot trap.

Is there a more tired opinion in 2025 than the "octopuses are so smart and amazing and [insert 9 facts] and probably they are the REAL aliens akshully and they are advanced life forms so as a quasi-intellectual and fake interesting person, I've stopped eating them. Howboutu?"?

I blame the aforementioned My Teacher the Octopus movie for dumbing down what once only the nerdy Slayer fan knew due to his niche friend group all having H.P. Lovecraft hard-ons. And that Netflix documentary was boring and sucked.

Also octopus is gross and weird. I'll only eat the circle versions of calimari and only from the most classy of establishments. You know, TGI Fridays, Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, Bennigan's, etc.

If octopuses eat other octopuses, it seems silly that I shouldn't.
