Today i watched a korean guy speak english in an italian style

I had a boss who was at least genetically clearly from the Indian subcontinent, but couldn't place his accent at all. It wasn't until a few weeks into the job when he said he was "goin' back home ta Edinburgh" that it made sense.

THICK Scottish brogue on that guy. Great boss, tho.

I'm buddies with a Sri Lankan guy that grew up in Lafayette.  Not super thick, but the Cajun accent is there.  Loves to duck hunt, deer hunt and fish.  Always has a lip full of Copenhagen.  Freaks people out when they've spoken to him over the phone and meet him in person.

Anyway this happened right in front of me at one of our jackpots, to a guy we knew, and we were able to put his thumb on ice and he got it sewed back on, but not before I had to fetch my dog and take the thumb out of his mouth.

You grow up fast on a farm.  Because you see some shit.

One of the outspoken voices of the Scottish National Party is a Sikh who wears the full turban…and a lightly colored kilt and sounds absurdly Scottish. Always love listening to him.

I think he got “me too’ed” because he’s also a perve. So I presume he posts here.

Genre-benders of all kinds amuse me tremendously.  In this sense, ethnicity/nationality/accent/dialect as a genre.

Also, the word "perv" cracks me up.

When I was maybe 10, or younger, one of my peers must have overheard their parents calling someone a "pervert."  But he misheard it as "perver."

And promptly introduced it into our little circle of friends.  So we ran around calling each other "perver" for a few months.  You perver!

So, any use of variations of pervert, perv, etc. is liable to make me chortle,  even grin, highly inappropriately in most cases.

as long as we’re on the funny accent overlaps I’ll post this.  I’m sure it’s been seen before but it always throws me to see a full-blown chinese family start conversing like delta rednecks.

I watched this in its entirety a few years ago.  And again this morning.  Thanks for posting.  Like @TwiceHorn said, these genre-bending things bring me so much joy.  THIS is the kind of stuff that I love about our country.

There's a great book called Mexifornia by Victor Davis Hanson.  I talks to the historical significance of assimilation in California and the thin line between keeping national pride and heritage and insulating yourself against outside influence to the point of boxing yourself into a corner as an ethnic community.  But, these Mississippi Chinese examples and my Sri Lankan buddy are shining examples of our melting pot country.

Now back to the LULZ pics and vids!

A lot of my anxiety is wrapped up in whether I am truly a good husband and father. There’s so much out there that makes you feel as if no matter what you do that you’re failing. Better vacations than you take, other kids doing better in school than yours, and couples who seem to be get along better.

But then things like this come along to remind you that in reality, there’s far more pieces of shit out there who are failing / failed so much harder than you.

Thanks for the mental health boost!

I used to go beer drinking with a Vietnamese American kid from Angleton when I was in grad school.  His parents and older siblings came over direct from Vietnam.  The parents spoke Vietnamese with all the kids.  My buddy had the thickest redneck hick American accent you ever heard.  Pure Southeast Texas.  It was awesome watching people's eyes get big as saucers when he ordered his Milluh Lahts.

I was buddies with some ZBTs in my complex.  That means Jewish guys, but these weren't the ones from Illinois and NY, they were from Houston and South Texas had mounted deer heads on their walls wearing tallits (prayer shawls), dipped copenhagen, wore wranglers and boots most of the time.

SW, that owns the exotic car dealership out at Cypress Mill and 620, is another guy like that. He is a very dark skinned Sri Lankan. The first time you meet him and he has an absolutely perfect Texas accent will make you do a double take.

Known SW for over 25 years and have had a few auto transactions with him. Once you see his full name you know why he goes by SW. His nickname is "Squattie" btw. Height, not race. English is solid. But we figured his penchant for brown M&M's was due to his Ceylon heritage.

One of the stories we heard about him back in the nineties, taking place in the early eighties: when he was a teenager one night he snuck out and borrowed his father's Ferrari. Got clocked at 150+ on I-35. The police didn't bother to give chase and instead went directly to his house as his father's exotic car dealership was famous in town. When the police arrived the car hood was still warm.

Yep. He is a cool dude, I've seen his full name, I can't imagine having to spell that in kindergarten. I've known him since about 1996, when he was still on Hancock. He comes up to Cresson and runs on their track quite a bit. I heard the magic number on I-35 was 176 mph. I love the picture he has on the wall of him going through a corner at 202 mph during the Silver State Classic, the right front wheel is off the ground, and that picture is from the early 90's, which was ridiculously fast at the time.
