I wish we took men’s sprints more seriously! No reason we shouldn’t have one of the fastest men’s teams in the country every year.

I know track is more than speed and it’s a team effort but for once I would like to see Texas win the men’s 4x100 relay.
Texas has to much speed not to

16 YO Amir Thompson, Pflugerville Hendrickson, son of Marion Jones and Obadele Thompson supposedly just committed. He never ran track until this spring and ran a 10.28 100m.

pretty sure he is enrolled, despite his age.

Finally watching S2 of Sprint.  Great coverage of JuJu.  Coach Flo gets some good screen time and is rocking the UT gear.  Nice exposure!

The baton drop in the 4x4 relay in the men's race and the women getting DQ'd in their 4x4 race didn't help, but both teams lagged the entire competition. Texas did have some graduation losses, I mean Neugebauer was amazing and always scored points but sitting there on Saturday and watching Arkansas with three athletes in one final and/or Texas A&M with the same in another, and then teams like Auburn and Alabama having some solid depth in certain events and the points for the Longhorns aren't there. I don't have insight into the program behind the scenes, but as great as many of the athletes are on a global level, track is fighting pretty hard to stay relevant right now (in the US). Conjecture on my part is that programs that pour NIL money into this specific sport (plus XC) and the portal give an advantage, especially with the way the NCAA disburses scholarships and numbers of allowed scholarships. But as I said, I don't know anything specific w/respect to the Longhorn teams. Some of the athletes set personal bests and I always like to see that.

Here are the results from the meet:

The meet was at A&M in their new facility. Having attended meets in their old place (Gilliam), there are some things about the new building I like: more seating and it wraps around 3/4 of the track and the banking is such that the finish line view is better. In Gilliam, the officials that were waiting or off duty used to lean on the railing by the finish and depending upon your seat, would inadvertently block sight lines. A friend occasionally served as a meet official and I mentioned it to him more than once, but it was apparently a hard habit to break, especially since T&F (like many sports) is hurting for officials and so you see some fairly elderly folks spending all day on their feet. I also don't like that the shot put and weights are pretty much invisible for most in attendance from the general seats. I'm also not a fan of playing music while making announcements simultaneously--you're inside in a cheaply made building with a lot of metal seating and the acoustics are ass. The announcers try and introduce the athletes and even though I often know who the athletes are, others don't and you can't hear anything except a Peanuts voice because of the usual track noises, people yelling, and music playing. I'm getting older so that's likely me being a bit cranky about it, but considering that a good portion of attendees are family members of athletes, I like to see the students recognized and given their due, especially in the finals. The sprint and hurdle races are in the middle now, and that has its pluses and minuses but I won't go into the particulars on that.

This meet had a lot of false starts and in the first (slower) sections of the distance races, there were issues because the slower sections are frequently packed. For ex, the men's 3000 had (I think) 3 false starts and I know in at least one of them, a UT athlete went down and I think it was Berhane (a jr) due to the scrum. While the final second section is where the faster runners are, it wouldn't have killed them to have 3 sections. These athletes are running ~8:00 minute times on average (best time overall in the second section was 7:53 by Drew Rogers of Missouri in a fantastic come-from-behind win). While the women's race doesn't have quite as many runners, the total time it adds for an extra section M/F is only around 20 minutes with set up and all and the meet was over at 7ish as it was. The running events started around 4:00 and that was when a majority of the fans showed up (side note: we were alone in our spot for a goodly part of the meet but damn I hate it when fans show up, sit right behind me, and spend the entire time talking and not paying attention to the meet. We usually try and find seats with the press box right behind us so we can avoid that but it doesn't always work out.)

We missed a lot of the prelims because the meet was held over three days but any day to watch track live is a good day and there were some exciting moments.

I was talking to a friend the other day. There is no reason Texas shouldn’t be a player in T&F year in and year out specifically in Women’s.

Men’s I can understand cause most Texas athletes will choose other sports but I just feel like we leave so much on the table in T&F.  A&M, UofH and Baylor just seems like they take it more serious than Texas and even Tech at times. Hopefully coach Flo can turn this around
