Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet

Coach pop a bitch

Recommended Posts

The wording is a little odd but these PFF grades are for the season to-date, updated after week 12: (QE is now 13th out of 16)
https://www.louisianasports.net/week-12-pff-sec-qb-rankings/
Even if you want to use QBR, ESPN puts him at 7th out of 15 qualifying SEC QBs. His draft stock has plummeted the last 5 weeks.
Bad at reading defenses, bad pocket presence, bad lower body mechanics, low release point, injury prone … I guess it’s a wild take to suggest his arm strength is over rated too.
How did he end up with a perfect rating coming out of HS?

Evidently by being hurt most of the year and leaving early the next.

Because I'm tired of these circular arguments when there's plenty of other shit to discuss and hypothesize

yes but they didn't stick with Arch.  I think Shipley is saying next time be ready to go to Arch sooner but permanently.  I'm not saying I agree or disagree with that.

If Quinn gets replaced for the same thing as he did against uga, there’s no way you make the swap back at any point other than injury.

Whittington was freak injury plagued and when he finally got and stayed healthy he was a fucking monster.

Gray was fucking incredible.

Quinn also looks fucking fantastic. You keep going on about this nonsense of comparing Quinn to his lofty external grade/expectations. A lot of people are comparing Quinn to Quinn. That's why so many people are so frustrated.

Stop fucking defending the guy, there's nothing to defend. He needs to play to his full potential.

I'm absolutely certain @Thatguy reps Quinn or is associated with those that do. He's grasping at any straw with his Quinn PR spin. It's working on some folks here, but some see the reality. Marketing spin. Spent too long in that world not to recognize it when I see it.

I figured it was true when after the Washington game he was blaming Quinn’s shitty throw on AD’s route running. Like what? Even if that was true, a guy running a shitty route doesn’t make the QB air the ball nearly out of bounds.

Now go look at his post count and where they are located.

Sure some people lean towards on area or another, but I'm pretty sure I've never seen him post anywhere outside of Quinn specific threads/area. Not in aggie thread. Not in CR, lulz, not anywhere. And I'll wager nearly 100% of them are, in various forms or another, defending Quinn.

Lol take off the tinfoil dude. Nobody associated with Quinns camp is coming to Surly horns to argue with mentally challenged people as part of their job.

You don't think social media managers of multi-million dollar clients don't post on the most popular board/social media/wherever on a specific topic concerning their clients?

You don't think different areas of social media/support are carefully monitored by the staff of those clients?

Do as I suggested above in my post. See where he posts, frequency, topics and tone.

Get back to me about my paranoia after that point.

I’ve seen him post other places. I just figured he was either Nash or CJ pumping up Quinn here on behalf of Texas/Sark.

Learn how to count yards, dude.

Dude I was being obviously hyperbolic. The point was that his "overthrows" last year and if it was a bad pass to Worthy against Bama, then those are downright "dots" compared to his obvious poor accuracy and bad long balls this year.

Quite a few quotes of Shipley with  "We cannot afford to lose another game IMO."

Not entirely correct. We can afford to lose the CCG and would still be in the 5-12 bracket.

Losing to UK or aggy likely keeps us out of the CCG, and might shove us out of 5-12 as well.

At this point we have at least three games left. Whether the third one is the CCG, a first-round homer, or a Toilet Bowl remains to be seen. If we keep winning, we have the three and another three in the playoffs. Could be a lotta games left, and they're just gonna keep getting tougher.

Was at that game with my dad. I remember seeing the teams get off the bus and teenaged me mouthed “fuck you” to Nick when we (at least I thought) locked eyes for a brief second haha. Was a great day and great game to be at.

"If the time comes, if Quinn cannot pull out of this rollercoaster that he's on, at Kyle Field or any game from there on, I don't think if there's a chance of us losing that they're gonna go down with Quinn. I think we'll see Arch try to save the day. And that's just where we are at this point. We cannot afford to lose another game IMO."

- Bob Shipley on OTF show yesterday

I don't know how connected he is within the program anymore, but this is all I'm asking for from Sark and staff. They have to be better prepared and ready to play Arch if bad Quinn shows up. The fact that a sunshine pumper like Shipley is saying it gives me hope.

Here's the rub in the "bring in Arch" scenario: Let's say Quinn plays against Ky like he did against Ark. We win but it ain't pretty.

Then the big test. it's against the Ags. Our amazing D keeps the game close. Quinn makes a few good plays and enough bad plays that he just can't get us the lead. Too many mistakes, too few bright spots. The biggest mistakes are Quinn's. Down by ten at the half. Do you pull him then? Middle of the third quarter, we get the ball back, down by ten. Is that too soon to pull Ewers?

Conventional thinking would be that he's the experienced one and  just needs one good drive and we are back on track. OTOH, we should be up by twenty and we know it. OTOH, you can't wait until it's "do or die" to get Arch out there and get him into the rhythm of the game. Even the middle of the third might be too late. I say make the switch at halftime. It's time to shit or get off the pot.

Sark needs to get Arch more snaps in practice, even if it means putting more pressure on Ewers to get his act together. Maybe that's what the team needs, because the pressure is gonna come one way or the other.

Best case scenario, Quinn kicks ass against Kentucky, and takes off.

Next best scenario, Quinn melts down against Kentucky and Arch comes in and begins his meteoric rise into a Hall of Fame career. Destroys the Ags. Wins the SEC and goes deep into the playoffs.

Obviously getting the win vs. Kentucky is the first priority. But I actually hope the Kentucky defense brings their A game. We need another real test for Quinn, whether it exposes his issues or he overcomes them. I hope he plays well and it builds confidence heading into the A&M game.

Jordan Whittington, and we all loved him, was special because of his effort level. He was way more developed than most kids which made him special in high school but once you get to college you are just one of the guys. He still had his effort and that carried him through but let's not act like he was uber gifted physically outside of his efforts in the weight room.

I am going to say this one time and one time only. Quinn Ewers was ranked higher than Vincent Paul Young Jr, the most incredible high school or college player most of us has ever seen. He was ranked higher than Vick. He was ranked higher than Lamar Jackson. He was ranked higher than Mahomes. It didn't take a genius to see the only thing special about Ewers is his arm and that HE WAS NOT a perfect recruit like they said he was. As soon as any of us saw him we should've readjusted our expectations. What makes him special is his ability to make multi-platform throws and his arm strength. Outside of that he is below average. Below average height, size, feet, quickness, agility, and speed. So why are we expecting him to do things he can't? That's like getting pissed that Blue can't run between the tackles. Pocket passers with below average athletic ability have to be kept clean at all costs. It's as simple as that. And just because they have a strong arm doesn't mean they are going to be able to stand in the pocket, perfectly diagnose a defense, and make every throw perfectly. I accepted that a long time ago and adjusted my expectations.

Anyone who thinks Ewers is going to be any different than any other pocket passer outside the ability to reach areas of the field others can't is going to be mad every week that Texas is playing. I challenge anyone here to name me 10 non-running college pocket passers that didn't have strong running games and didn't have a bunch of wtf games.

You have a 6'5 receiver running a fade in the end zone vs a 5'10 DB. Where do you throw the ball Big? Where is every single QB in America taught to throw the ball in that scenario?

To the MF pylon for the win! Look how far behind AD the defender was. The other guy inside the 10 has no chance of jumping the route if he throws a laser. The horizontal stance after the throw too. We fucking had this game.

Every QB is taught to throw that ball high to take advantage of the mismatch(6'5 vs 5'10) which is exactly why we chose AD to go to. The ball is out before the receiver break. At that point you are expecting your receiver to put his cleats in the ground for separation, come back, and high point the football on the sideline. You aren't expecting him to round off his route and not jump. Even the DB knows what we are trying to do which is why he is ready to jump and bat the ball down.

So you’re saying that we shouldn’t expect a QB to get better over the course of his career? What they’re good and bad at as a freshman is set in stone?

That matchup is 6'2 (AD) vs 6'1 Elijah Jackson

It's like you never played sports. Go look at Mitchell's listed height here at Texas, and Jackson isn't 6'1 either(hasn't been to the combine yet). Regardless, even on video there is a significant height difference.

I would only add to this post that the DB’s jump and AD’s failure to jump was in large part due to the db placing both hands on his shoulders, holding him down and using him as a launch pad.

That throw fucking sucked regardless of these mental gymnastics.

It’s also pretty stark the way you talk about Quinn now vs last year and the year before. Now it’s all about how he was overrated as a recruit whereas the last two years it was blame X, AD, JT, etc.

So you mention AD's inflated college height of 6'4, then exaggerate it, only to take Jackson's college height of 6'1 and severely diminish it.

You're better than that man. At best, there's a 2.5 inch difference there. Not the 7 inch one you fabricated to make your point.
