Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet

Coach pop a bitch

Recommended Posts

If you go back and watch games like Vandy, Kentucky, Arkansas…it is astounding how we are about to step on a team’s throat and then we get a holding call that negates a big play or turn the ball over in a way that completely derails our progress.

24-7 vs KY and we have the ball ready to deliver the final blow and then Blue and Ewers fumble on consecutive series. Just unreal.

Once again, we are the best team in the nation. But we just can’t get out of our own damn way. And heading into the game against aggy it just feels like it’s about to catch up with us.

What kind of question is that?  Gee, I don’t know.  Beautiful face, tight figure, looks at least halfway athletic, doesn’t have an annoying voice.. I mean, I guess, if you’re into that sort of thing.

I think Sark trusted Quinn to execute the offense more than Arch. Greater risk of false starts, illegal formations, protection busts, with Arch in the game.

And killing clock with the run was what we needed anyway and it was working.

The all arm thing is why his throws are sailing and floating...it's infuriating to watch. Because other times you'll see him use good mechanics and step into his throws and you see the zip he has. If he can apply that to his deeper passes he would have been able to hit Bond in stride, hit Golden on the wheel route vs Arkansas, or a streaking Wingo for a touchdown. Instead they're floated and gives defenders time to close on receivers and cause incompletions that we ultimately end up bitching should have been PI. Part of that is why I was complaining so much on some of his positive throws like the Moore touchdown vs Vandy.....that shit is rearing it's head and could cost us in big games.

Correct on all but the Golden wheel. That was a really tight window. I give him a pass on that one. The thing that bothers me is all these idiots here that misremember other QBs. Like take Arch for example. He has a lot more shitty throws than people remember whether it be trows into double and triple coverage, late throws, or off target throws. People are actually buying into this Manning Illuminati BS. It's wild to me. I also hate it because when the fanbase starts spreading that stuff it gets back to the QB and affects how things go on the field. No fanbase should understand that more than us. What we did to Simms was criminal and especial since in hindsight Major turned out to be the  shittier human.

I agree with overall people being a bit harsh on QE, who will end up being a top 3 QB at Texas in most metrics.

But the rest...

  1. Let's never bring up Simms v. Applewhite again please
  2. Major being a "shitty human" wasn't germane to what was happening in 2000-2001
  3. You're overselling what fans say on an internet message board to how a player plays.
  4. Even if it does affect the player, these are paid pro athletes now.  When you make millions as Texas QB you are going to have to take what goes along with that, which is people saying mean things on the internet about you.

he’ll have nice numbers when all is said and done, but that will be a product of the fact that our program’s downfield passing history didn’t start until around the turn of the century, plus the fact that QE has been surrounded by the best offensive coaching and playing talent in america for two straight years. if he keeps playing the way he’s been playing and this team doesn’t win it all, then there’s no chance that he’s going to be remembered more fondly than the likes of sam, major, james brown etc. nice statistical career, but if he doesn’t find a way to lead us to the title then there won’t be a ton to remember him for other than showing up overweight and unkempt and then underperforming for three years.

That's a 30 yard cross field throw with a guy 10 yards away from the receiver and running his way. Even on time he gets lit up at worst. Do the mph math. They don't play 3 safeties in the league. That throw in the league is usually vs cover 2.

I'm already more fond of him than those other guys because he did more to change the program in a positive direction. All this other guys had lower expectations coming in. That is the problem with the current fanbase. The got a "perfect" 1.000 recruit and hasn't met their expectations. Just read the posts. He isn't perfect but he is ours and we are going to back to back playoffs with him. Pretty good legacy if you ask me, regardless of expectations being met or not.

I think you are just over-sensitive on this stuff. Arch misses some throws and reads.  Multiple people have said Quinn is more accurate in the short game. I dont think anyone believes that Arch is not without his risks and issues. I do think many believe he is more likely to progress in those areas, because he only has 2 starts. There is much less hope on Quinn fixing his issues, because he is nearing 40 college starts.

You're gaslighting. Arch has made some errant throws but not at a noticeably higher rate than Quinn.

It's weird that you tend to talk shit about Arch. He's done well this year and and has created a lot of big plays in limited action.

You realize that you're just as bad as @Derka on this arguement -- you're just on the complete polar opposite side of the spectrum. The answer to the QE question is somewhere in the middle between his take and yours. I tend to lean more Derka's way in that QE has been largely unimpressive for a third-year starter with Heisman aspirations when the season started since returning from his early-season injury. I hope he's good at Kyle Field this week because I've become resigned to the fact Sark isn't considering any alternatives until Quinn simply cannot continue physically. He was good -- not great -- in the first half against Kentucky and then was just bad in the second. Was that entirely due to the ankle injury? I guess that's the likely case -- but if he's that hurt, put in the backup for some really good experience. We were up 24-7 at that point.

Don't get me started on Jaydon Blue -- I can't remember the last time I saw a RB that had such bad fumble-itis. I feel pretty confident in saying that was probably a fumble when he scored the TD.

what has quinn led us to? over the last two seasons he’s been one of our worst, least dependable offensive players. he’s on the very short list of worst offensive starters on team this year. just because he’s the QB doesn’t mean that he’s leading the team or that he’s responsible for our team’s accomplishments. sark has turned this program around, not quinn. in fact he’s turned this program around in spite of quinn and his routinely underwhelming performances.

One factor in Quinn's favor going into B/CS is even though he hasn't played there either, he did go into Tuscaloosa and help beat the brakes off a very good Alabama team.  His ability to respond in a hostile road environment is not wholly unknown.  For Arch, it is definitely unknown.

I think this is good example of why Quinn struggles on deep balls and what I said a couple pages ago.  This is the Bond throw. There is so much room to the right to lead Bond and allow his to adjust to underthrow ball

And completely shit his pants at home against Georgia in a game where the defense did everything possible to allow Quinn to jump out to an big early lead.

That Bama game is almost 2 full seasons ago. Won't matter any this weekend.

That was exactly my thought when I was watching as well. Those deep throws should be easier than the intermediate tight window throws. You just have to throw the deep balls to an area and let your receiver  run under it.

You literally hang on his every throw bitching if he misses one. Meanwhile these other QBs on these good teams have horrible games. You see Milroe? Dart? Multiple games by Beck? I pay attention to what the bottom can look like and am happy we haven't had to worry about that here. Quinn isn't perfect at all but we are about to go to the playoffs for the second year in a row and I feel like most of you aren't thankful enough for what that guy has brought to the program. Throw a better deep ball, lead him correctly and he doesn't slow down and let the DB run into him for an obvious -- to everybody but SEC officials -- DPI.

Dude cannot throw a deep post to save his life. Think back to the deep balls he has hit like the Moore throw up the sideline. He throws verticals decently. He throws posts vertical instead of out front. As son as I see a deep post route I already know its a miss.

What I mean is you are 1000% an apologist for Ewers -- basically the exact opposite mirror image of Derka on this issue. Neither one of you will give a single inch when the true perspective is in the middle of the two you. It might be closer to one than the other, and that's where the nuance comes in.

I think he is pretty even handed in his evaluation of Quinn. He only comes across as an apologist because he is responding to folks with extremely negative takes on everything Quinn does. If you had less people saying everything he does is bad and he is the worst QB ever, then @Thatguy wouldn't be on here saying "not so fast". I'm confident if instead we had a bunch of people saying Quinn has been perfect, @Thatguy would be correcting that shit as well.

Lets talk about something positive. That screen pass to Golden was fucking phenomenal. I get it, just a screen but how many times do you see QBs do that. I see QE do it better than anyone. I admit and it is well documented, his deep ball sucks but at the same time the lat 2 games we have had 4 no calls on obvious DPI deep shots.

His deep ball sucks. But what he did with it against Kentucky is good enough that we'll be very hard to stop (especially if PI is actually called). So long as he is giving the receiver a chance at it, it is light years better than in 2022 when the ball was never close enough to matter.
