Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet

Coach pop a bitch

Recommended Posts

This thread brings me down.

As best I can tell, after reviewing all of this professional analysis,

1. Our superstar QB is irretrievably broken

2. Our coach is stupid or crooked

3.  Our only hope for success is to start the backup which won't happen because see #2.

Does this mean we're going to lose to the agroids and then head back to the wilderness like the end of the Mack years?

It all seems so clear.

His deep ball sucks. But what he did with it against Kentucky is good enough that we'll be very hard to stop (especially if PI is actually called). So long as he is giving the receiver a chance at it, it is light years better than in 2022 when the ball was never close enough to matter.

SEC lets DBs get after it. I think they are actually very consistent in the way they call it, even if it can be frustrating

Dude cannot throw a deep post to save his life. Think back to the deep balls he has hit like the Moore throw up the sideline. He throws verticals decently. He throws posts vertical instead of out front. As son as I see a deep post route I already know its a miss.

I’d have to go back and look but I guarantee you his feet are parallel to LOS. He’s trying to throw to the middle or right hash but his body is not in position so it’s going to go the way his arm goes when throwing across his body.

Understandable take if you believe the majority opinion in here. Yet we are 10-1 in the exact spot where everyone thought we might be pre-season. Go figure.

Based on what I have seen, you almost need to impregnate a WR to a PI call in the SEC. It is bizzarro Big 12 officiating. You get phantom holds called (Jake Majors vs UK) in the SEC. Easier to find bigfoot, than a holding call in the Big 12. Ticky tack PIs are called every game. SEC has a reputation as a defensive league and the officials call it with that in mind. The Big 12 was known for offense and the officials call it that way.

That is bit over the top. I think many would say if Quinn can show composure in the pocket with pressure and hit the intermediate throws, Texas can compete for a title. I think everyone has just accepted the deep ball is a lottery ticket

nah that’s actually a huge difference between the two of us- i’ve praised quinn plenty over the years, and continue to do so when he deserves it. i was praising him in the game thread on saturday. im not some big time quinn ewers hater- not even close. im a guy who is observing a QB who has been routinely underperforming and i simply call it like i see it, both good and bad. there just happens to be a)a lot of bad to talk about, and b)a cadre of posters in this thread, led by thatguy, who 100% refuse to acknowledge that QE is less than perfect, never mind the reality that he’s actually holding the rest of our offense back. BO&W is the opposite of thatguy, not me.

His feet are almost never where they are supposed to be but that is that dude's superpower. He can throw pretty accurately all over the field up to intermediate depth with his feet and arm completely disconnected. So I am sure trying to coach him out of that when he has so much success is like talking to a brick wall.

"I praise Quinn plenty"

Lol! This dude literally took a year off last year after dragging QE up and down the year prior about how trash he is and how he would never win. I wish someone could do a post count over last season and I bet it was almost nothing up until the last throw in the Washington game. Now that Quinn has had his struggles this year dude has cranked the hate engine up to 11.

These same dudes were the guys saying Sark was trash too. I see that thread is buried deep in the archives.

Rewatched the game last night. In real time I thought Quinn played well in 1st half. On second watch it was even better. He had three poor throws deep. 2 to Bond and 1 to Wingo. All bad throws. Outside of that any criticism would be nitpicking.

The second half was disastrous and Quinn's brain turned into pudding after he became really hobbled. Luckily we didn't throw much and had that epic TD drive to close out the game.

Feels like a microcosm of his career. So much good, so much WTF.

What if a Kentucky defender rolled up on Jake Majors or Kelvin Banks or Isaiah Bond who is also playing with a bad ankle?

It’s football. The risk of injury is there every play whether you are 100% healthy or not and is not a reason to not play someone if they are given the thumbs up from the training staff.

Odds are about half the roster is dealing with a minor sprain somewhere at this point in the season. It’s week 13.

Point is, every game forward is must win, so you take these risks, you save nothing.

what has quinn led us to? over the last two seasons he’s been one of our worst, least dependable offensive players. he’s on the very short list of worst offensive starters on team this year. just because he’s the QB doesn’t mean that he’s leading the team or that he’s responsible for our team’s accomplishments. sark has turned this program around, not quinn. in fact he’s turned this program around in spite of quinn and his routinely underwhelming performances.

JFC.  That's certainly a take.

It is a QB driven league/sport. Who did Sark get on a plane to see the moment they entered the portal? QE. That set things in motion, lots of moving parts and QE played a huge role in it. You don't have to believe it or accept it. I don't give a shit either way but it doesn't change things.

Because giving fucking zero credit for success to the player that plays the most important position on the team is pure idiocy.

and  if i had done that then you’d be able to do what i asked and actually quote something specific. instead you’re just putting words in my mouth. i did not “give zero credit” to quinn, i argued with the idea that quinn has been leading his team to victories, and i gave the lions share of the credit where it’s due- the other dozens of people within the program who are doing their jobs the last two years better than quinn ewers has done his. i did not say that he’s played zero part in our success.

You are right.  A ton of posters quoted it because it was a fair, balanced nuanced take and not typical Derka Derkaing a topic.   We're all wrong and you are right.  Per usual.

Yeah for some reason I thought the injury occurred later but it happened with 10ish min left in the second. The Helm throw over the middle and a couple other good throws came after the injury. It’s almost like he went into halftime, had time to think about his injury, and came back out in the 3rd and was overthinking/skittish. It was only a couple plays for him but boy they were ugly.

One factor in Quinn's favor going into B/CS is even though he hasn't played there either, he did go into Tuscaloosa and help beat the brakes off a very good Alabama team.  His ability to respond in a hostile road environment is not wholly unknown.  For Arch, it is definitely unknown.

That's the problem, he can't replicate that performance with any consistency. This thread would be completely different if Ewers was routinely putting up 300+ with multiple deep shots a game for TDs. The fact that as a 3rd year starter, he's eclisped the 300 yard mark once this season shoul be unacceptable.

When you compare that to Arch stats in the 2-1/2 games he was the QB1 people can see the clear difference vs. the 8-1/2 games for Ewers.

he’ll have nice numbers when all is said and done, but that will be a product of the fact that our program’s downfield passing history didn’t start until around the turn of the century, plus the fact that QE has been surrounded by the best offensive coaching and playing talent in america for two straight years. if he keeps playing the way he’s been playing and this team doesn’t win it all, then there’s no chance that he’s going to be remembered more fondly than the likes of sam, major, james brown etc. nice statistical career, but if he doesn’t find a way to lead us to the title then there won’t be a ton to remember him for other than showing up overweight and unkempt and then underperforming for three years.

Let's re-write this for your favorite coach Rick Barnes, could also do the same for Chris Beard:

Quote

Barnes had nice numbers when all was said and done, but that will be a product of the fact that our mbb program’s history didn’t start until around the 90's, plus the fact that Barnes had some of the best playing talent in america like KD and TJ Ford.   Because his team never won it all, then there’s no chance that he’s going to be remembered more fondly than the likes of Penders, Abe Lemons etc. nice statistical career, but because he didn't find a way to lead us to the title then there won’t be a ton to remember him for other than showing up licking his lips on the sideline and then underperforming for 17 years.

And yes I keep coming back to this because you said upthread that you use hyperbole as a device.  Apparently you also use hypocrisy as a device as well because you are applying a standard to QE that you apparently don't apply to your favorite people.  Either the standard is the standard or it isn't.  And if you want to say "the standard is lower in mbb than football, football should compete for national championships every year and mbb the standard should be consistent F4 or E8," great - Barnes didn't hit that either.

So which is it:  Inconsistent standards based on your personal favorites?  Or hypocrisy?
