That lines up with a text I got from a friend this AM that said there's word going around that Quinn re-aggravated the oblique and might not play Saturday. Could be gamesmanship. Could be nothing.

The parallels with the 1999 game are eerie, though. Freshman backup is son of NFL royalty, 25th anniversary of the Bonfire disaster. At Kyle Field.

They just had a walkthrough yesterday. Seriously doubt it, unless it was just a freak accident

Y’all can say what you want about Ewers but I don’t think Texas is in this position without him.

matter of fact we probably don’t even have a Arch Manning.
when Sark brought in Ewers, Texas became an offensive magnet for top end talent which in long term became a player magnet.

I hate to see Quinn struggling and even voice my concerns here but I’m not crazy. Ewers was. Lowkey Chris Simms brining in Talent

Good grief, some of you could put my ex-wife to shame when it comes to complaining.

Quinn has pretty much locked up a second straight playoff appearance, has us in position to embarrass aggy and go to the SEC championship game and all you want to do is bitch.

I get that it's frustrating at times because he has shown flashes of domination followed by times of stalled out offense but take a moment to realize where the heck we are and that we are 10-1.

What stat did I use to say Arch was better than Ewers?  I’ve never asked for Arch to be the guy, not even said he should be brought in.

I have said that we can win with both.

I did previously quote some Quinn numbers in relation to his ranks on the intermediate range throughout the entire country.  I did reference that Ewers first start was against a shittier ULM team than Arch’s first start against a not good ULM team.

You will pretty much never hear me say a player sucks.  You won’t hear me say player X shouldn’t play or should never see the field.  One cause it’s shitty and two because I don’t know what the coaches are asking of them.  I try to not even do that for former players or opponents.

Any stat I throw out a stat is open for discussion.  It’s a team game same as it’s always been.  Over the long term, the best TEAM wins.  Every player who ever played has screws up.  I haven’t played in 30 years and I can remember tons of specific plays that I absolutely messed up.

”bad faith?”  Yeah, doesn’t happen.

If that be the case then a solid apology from me. A lot of people are posting and you are usually the stats guy. So maybe it was coming from someone else and I attributed it to you. So sorry for that. Continue posting as you always do and I will do a better job of scrolling back and addressing the proper poster from here on out. My fault.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2025/insider/story/_/id/41736211/ranking-top-2025-nfl-draft-quarterbacks-hot-board-team-fits

1. Ward

2. Sanders

3. Milroe

4. Beck

5. Allar

Quote

6. Quinn Ewers, Texas
Height: 6-foot-2 | Weight: 210 pounds
Class: Senior | Projected range: Mid-to-late Day 2

Where he excels: Ewers missed two games early in the season due to an abdominal strain before returning against Oklahoma in Week 7, throwing for 199 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a 34-3 win. He has started nine games this season, throwing for 2,089 yards with 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. His adjusted completion percentage of 71.2% ranks 33rd in the nation.

Ewers could have entered the 2024 draft and been a mid-to-late Day 2 pick, but he returned to school for another year of development under coach Steve Sarkisian. He has been a point guard of sorts this season, distributing the ball to the wealth of playmakers in Texas' offense.

He has also had to deal with adversity beyond the abdominal injury. He was benched in the first half of Texas' Week 8 loss to Georgia for redshirt freshman Arch Manning, but he returned after halftime to throw two touchdown passes.

"He's tough as nails mentally because of all of the background noise is impossible to ignore," an AFC area scout mentioned. "Despite all of that, he's dealt with getting benched and returned as the starter in the same game, which says a lot about his toughness."

Where he needs work: The Texas offense has mostly shifted away from deep passes, going for more of a quick passing attack. Ewers throws a higher percentage of passes at or behind the line of scrimmage (37.4%) than all but one of 129 qualified passers, and his 6.26 yards per attempt ranks 127th. Texas' downfield passing game has been mostly nonexistent this season, depriving scouts the opportunity to see whether Ewers' downfield touch and accuracy has improved.

Scouts have also flagged Ewers' tendency to panic when under duress. His 8.0 QBR when facing pressure ranks 103rd in the country, as he hasn't shown the pocket awareness and suddenness to consistently escape when the pocket is collapsing. Durability is also another area NFL evaluators question; he has missed seven games because of injuries over the past three seasons.

I dont mind this sentiment, but I think it disrespects the rest of the team. This team is a defensive team. If we use FEI rankings. The defense has been ranked higher, than the offense the last 3 years. They have been top 10 the last 3 years. Sark hasnt had a top 10 FEI offense, since he has been at Texas. I am sure the broadcasters will talk about how Sark's explosive offense will match-up vs the A&M pass rush (which is over-rated also) in the pregame and continue to push this misguided idea

Which NFL GM is looking at Milroe and saying "yeah that's the QB of the future"?

I think most GM's are throwing up in their mouths over this QB class. I am sure one will be good, but overall this is one of the worst Qb classes I have seen in quite awhile.

I'm happy with the wins. The issues with Quinn are always anticipatory for me. I've been convinced for weeks that he'll get injured in the A&M game. Aggies are physical (and dirty) under Elko. As it ends up, he gets hurt the week before. So that concern is/was valid. Some football players seem prone to injury, unfortunately Quinn is one of them. Him being able to move around the pocket (and out of it) seems crucial for offensive success in this game.

I'm also concerned with struggles throwing the ball 20 yards past the LOS. Would have liked to see improvement there over the last month, but it hasn't really happened. I think that will catch up with us. Maybe it doesn't matter vs. A&M or even the SEC Championship game if we get there. But deep ball issues put too much stress on other team areas having to be great to perfect. It feels unsustainable.

So here is my take on all this. The deep ball is only necessary to keep teams from loading up against the run. No one ever loads up against the run. In fact every defense we play rarely comes out of shell coverage. Look at Arky. 3 high and 3 man front all game. Look last week vs Kentucky. We were able to pound the rock BECAUSE people are afraid of our passing game. I know that sounds crazy but why else would you line up like this when you've been getting bludgeoned? 1st and 10 in the middle of getting your ass kicked on a 14 play drive where we never threw the ball and you still line up like this against 12 personnel. We popped this for about 13 yards.

If teams are giving us space to run the ball we are where we want to be. Injury wise you are correct that aggy is going to try and hurt Quinn. Arch has had some snaps and isn't coming in green if he has to play. I do agree Sark should've sat Quinn last week. The real issue for us though is if a team can sit back in coverage and still stifle the run game without dedicating numbers to it like Georgia did. That's where we got in trouble. Aggy has the ability to do that. Aggy plays a lot of man coverage so we will see how that goes. It all comes down to how well we handle their pass rush. If it looks like Georgia where there are multiple wtf busts then we are in trouble.

It's an interesting subject. In my amateur opinion, the Three High look we've seen this year is just to ensure Quinn keeps his eyes on short/intermediate routes, and he generally acquiesces.  It makes sense. Keep the ball in front of you, bend don't break, you (hope to) have some help in the back when Texas runs their screens and slants. Trying to eliminate big plays and forcing longer drives that can end up with FGs or turnovers is the goal vs. Texas. When Quinn does throw deep, the numbers are usually there in our favor. It's just a complete bugaboo for him. To me, the deep ball is necessary to throw deep ball completions that go for big yards and/or TDs.

Why would anyone load up on the run against us? Kentucky might have been the first game this year where we truly were focused and willing to pound the ball. And it was probably because Quinn's injury almost forced Sark into it. I'm glad we did. Sark is usually incredibly pass happy, to the point where passes in the flat are basically runs, which is another reason to be in the defensive look above. Hopefully we give the running game a worthy look on Saturday night instead of giving up on it before kickoff.
