I will say this in defense of him. The turnovers were uncharacteristic. Taking care of the ball has not really been an issue since Georgia. That's one thing he's been good at.

He went out there less than 100%, hit a deep ball, drew some flags, made off schedule plays, and appeared to be cruising to a dominant win, until he drove us into a ditch.

Sort of.  2 picks vs Vandy.  Sark blames it on tipped balls but those were batted balls in his face when there was little to no throwing lane and he needed to throw it in the dirt or adjust his arm angle.  Kentucky with the fumble, although he shouldn't have been in there so that's on Sark.  He's very inconsistent in hitting plays to sustain drives and because his deep ball is poor, he doesn't have the upside for long TD passes.  Instead it's more dinking and dunking which necessitates very consistent playmaking.  He throws a nice intermediate ball but for some reason we haven't schemed a ton of those except for the occasional crossing pattern to the TE.  We had a few really nice digs or curls the last month including one to Golden today.  Wish we could see more of those because it feels like that's why he's good at.

Again, he's not a scrub at all, he's a good, solid QB, but we're talking about probably needing elite playmaking to get deep in the playoffs and doing it for 4 quarters generally.  He hasn't played a complete game except for maybe Florida or some of the warm up games like UTSA or UL-M.  A lot of very good first halves and very inconsistent or poor 2nd halves.  We're all grateful to be 11-1 and going to the SEC Championship but it feels like the defense is championship level.  The running game since Georgia is championship level.  Our ST's...... eh, not really in the kicking game -- Bert is average and our punting sucks.  Is the QB play?  I don't know.  Feels like we'll need a bit more consistency to get us where we want to be.  I think he has it in him, but we need him to find it.  Like tonight should have been 27 or 30-0.

Quinn played pretty great tonight outside of 2 plays. I’ll take the guy that played tonight

Why do people keep saying this?

He threw two terrible passes in the first half that should have been interceptions and then was indecisive on a 3rd and short where he easily could have run for the 1st down but instead changed his mind and threw it behind the receiver (who thought Quinn was going to run).

With that said, I will give some credit as he did have great plays in the 1st half (like the long run where he avoided the sack and the long completion!). But, then he undid all that with the 3rd quarter from hell (a lot of that falls on Sark, too)

Yeah, fuck this take.  Quinn had a couple bad plays but also floated in some beauties, made a long important run on third down, and showed grit.  And putting in Arch for some plays empowers the team, our team 🤘

I’m in favor of playing both QBs. That Arch appearance was unexpected.

At one point late in the game I actually wanted Sark to put both Quinn and Arch in at the same time.  I mean it could be fun, but I wanted it so that Elko would short-circuit and burn one of his timeouts.  To me it seems like an absolutely easy way to force a coach to call timeout so he can figure out how to defend that formation.  Then only 1 QB comes back out after the timeout.

Quinn did show grit/toughness and played a solid 1st half overall, but to say he only had a "couple" bad plays (which people keep saying) in the game is disingenuous/revisionist history.

It was Quinn's 26 yard scamper on the second drive of the game that got Texas' offense going.  We had gone three and out on the first series and, after two short completions, it was third down and five.  After that 26 yard gain, we moved the ball efficiently down the field and scored our first TD.

That’s the next chapter… this coming Saturday.

That has nothing to do with my question. I asked why some people keep saying that Quinn only had "two bad plays" in the game.

His long run was an awesome play that he gets full credit for as he made lemonade out of chickenshit with his effort. But, he did the exact opposite on some other plays (more than two/a couple).

The last part of @Reynolds Woodcock's statement was: "I'll take the guy that played tonight."

You answered: "Why do people keep saying this?"

My answer was a response to that question.

I generally agree, but those were two really bad turnovers and are part of what makes Ewers so frustrating. If we were playing a team with a pulse those two turnovers would have lost us the game.

I suggest a Five Point Plan to settle this disagreement once and for all.

1. We watch the Texas vs. Florida game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

2. We watch the Texas vs. Arkansas game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

3. We watch the Texas vs. Kentucky game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

4. We watch the Texas vs. Aggy game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

5. We watch the next Texas game of the season (Bowl game, SEC Championship, or First round playoff). Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss -30 if this is a bowl game +10 if it's the SEC championship.

Then we find the average of these five sums. This gives us his measure on the ULTIMATE SCALE OF PUSSYTUDE/BOSSNESS (working title...in process)

0-65.0 : THE ULTIMATE PUSSY : Sorry Quinn, you are officially and forever a Huge Pussy

65-75 : PRETTY MUCH A PUSSY : Quinn, you had so much potential but you ended up playing like a Pussy for us. There might be hope for you in the future though.

75-85 : KIND OF A PUSSY : Quinn, we would have had a real shot this season if you didn't play like a pussy one too many times. Good luck in the NFL though bro.

85-95 : MOST LIKELY NOT A PUSSY : Quinn did enough to win, but could he have done more? (I admit if we end up here the argument will go on. I'll take my chances)

95-100 : DEFINITELY NOT A PUSSY : You can say what you want about Quinn Ewers, but he ain't no pussy.

100+ : DUDE IS A BOSS : It turns out you guys have just been haters the whole time. Potential Longhorn Legend.

(This is all completely arbitrary and not based on any kind of science or intelligence)

May the testes be with you, Quinn.

1. Texas 49-17 vs. Florida. Score = 100.0 (QBR 90.0 +10 for win)

2. Texas 20-10 vs. Arkansas Score = 72.0 (QBR 62.0 +10 for win)

3. Texas 31-14 vs. Kentucky Score = 77.6 (QBR 67.6 +10 for win)

4. Texas 17-7 vs. Aggy Score = 89.1 (QBR 79.1 +10 for win)

5. We watch the next Texas game of the season (Bowl game, SEC Championship, or First round playoff). Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss -30 if this is a bowl game +10 if it's the SEC championship.

Again, despite the win, Quinn is still hanging out in KIND OF A PUSSY territory with an average score of 84.7 so far.

Gentlemen, take ten paces, turn and fire.

On Quinn's fumble, he was indeed trying to slide, but the refs didn't see it or interpret it as such. Had they done so, the fumble would have been disallowed. Gotta wonder if his ankle boot prevented him from executing it properly.

I wondered about that. Your forward progress is down as soon as you lean back to initiate a slide right?.. but you can still fumble until your knee touches?

The people expecting perfection will never be pleased with any QB. He was hobbled as fuck and gutted it out.

The turnovers are what’s the most frustrating about him, he can be lazy with the ball.  The int was a horrible decision, I don’t care that it was tipped. I would’ve rather he took two sacks down there. Well, I’d rather the head coach feed the RB but it doesn’t matter. We still stomped that ass.

Bond has his head up his ass and could’ve cost us dearly with route running.

Yes - knee, butt, or forearm etc. Something has to hit the ground to kill the clock.

I think (and hope) we will see more Arch packages in the SEC title and playoffs. He is a weapon and Sark will continue to use him effectively. It’s gonna be fun to watch.

I would like to bet Arch throws the 1st TD prop bet in SEC title game at long odds. You know Sark is drawing up the pass play to that package this week

near the goal line in the 3rd quarter was all on Sark.  take the 3 and don't put the ball in your QB's hands who is known to make lazy plays and have not so good ball security.

Sark is starting Quinn.  He knows who Quinn is, he has to manage Quinn and the game.

the only way we lose that game in the 2nd half is throwing pick 6's, fumble returns for TD's., ST's disasters  Their offense wasn't scoring 10 points after that first drive was stoned.

Quinn was fine. We won the game in a hostile environment but Sark is the one that put the game in jeopardy.

Priority one besides OL(which is always priority one) is kicker and punter.  holy jesus what a train wreck.

Even if not tipped I think it’s still an interception and potential pick 6. Just a bad decision all around

And there lies the problem. If you have to manage your QB and take the ball out of his hands, you are behind the 8ball. This limits the playbook. You should be able to trust your QB on a #3 ranked team not to diarrhea all over himself when it matters.

Quinn was dog shit all 2nd half. And let's not pretend he dropped his nuts on aggy in the 1st half either. Arch had to come save a drive for our 1st TD after Quinn threw into triple coverage.

The win last night changes nothing about Quinn. He's the sole reason we damn near blew the game. He better thank this defense because without them, aggy could have snuck out of there with a win. Quinn made a few good plays and against aggy even with his terrible 2nd half, it was enough. How many teams in the playoffs is going scoreless and scoring 17pts total going to work against? I'd say none.

As well as we were running the ball and how mentally important it was to cap those drives with ANY points rather than risk coming away with nothing, you just hand the ball off and see what happens. There was no reason to put QE in a position where he could make those mistakes.

what Sark doesn't seem to get is that 3 with this D is like 7 with a good D.  I know his kicker is meh and he expects his QB to not have shit ball security but there is mounds of evidence that "something" will happen during a game with Quinn.  take the 3 from 30 yards go up 20 and win the game. hell a TO on downs would be better.

We are lucky his fumble didn't get returned for a TD as well.

Harsh but fair… but one could easily argue, this year particularly, there are very few FBS QBs you could trust against that aggy D in the RZ at Kyle field.

Yep. Winning this game and making the SEC championship makes a lot of that frustration go away.

I do think it would be smart for Sark to keep using Arch situationally here and there. Don't need to worry about a QB controversy anymore, do whatever it takes to win from here on out.

Sark did Ewers no favors in his play calling in the 2nd half in the redzone. Just run Wisner and Gibson if you're afraid of Blue's fumbling. Get Arch back out when you get inside the 20. Quinn has to get out of his own head when he makes a mistake. His first half was great.

Fuck man, we won and Quinn did just enough good things to make that happen.  We’re 11-1 with a chance to avenge our only loss next week and enter the playoffs as the #2 overall seed.  Quinn isn’t perfect, but he’s made a few of my days in the last 3 years and we could be a lot worse off than we are now.
