I think the concern was/is that we can’t beat Georgia or Oregon with mediocre QB play, and Arch provides a threat in zone reads, RPO, and deep passes that defenses don’t have to plan for with Quinn. It’s possible that Quinn can be better than Arch at somethings (like reading defense, pinpoint accuracy in short to medium passes), but Arch’s strengths give us a better chance of beating elite teams.

Sark obviously doesn’t think this is correct. Hopefully he knows more than the people in this thread or we’ve got bigger issues.

Cool, you must have a lot going on. I underestimated the defense and the run game. Glad they carried the load, especially the OL. Run game improvement the last few weeks is one of the better developments. Still think the pass game needs to improve to see Texas deep in the playoffs. I guess it is possible  that Quinn can be the Texas version of Dilfer. I’ll be happy if that is how it plays out

Agree that our passing offense will have to improve to play after New Years Day -- hopefully some extra time off helps.  🤘

Part of that will have to be improvement with our receivers. Quinn and the receivers really need to get on the same page. I think people have underestimated the affect of replacing all our top catch passers.

Quinn’s problem is if , for some reason, Arch has to come in and bail him out or complete the Georgia game, the “fans” will insist that Arch goes forward into the playoffs.

Hook’em!!!

Doesn't really matter what the fans think. Or the "fans".

The worse we could do is boo him at a home game. And if Arch wins the Georgia game we won't have another one of those.

If we can get this version of Quinn Ewers there is not a team that can't get its doors blown off, even the little details like the pump fake making Scourton bite, that slight motion made a potential tipped pass go from low probability to zero probability.

I don't know if telling him to dial it down makes him play like shit, but from my admittedly limited sample size when we need to score he scores* but when told to turtle he makes stupid mistakes.

*Georgia game excluded.

LOL. You signed up a year after me and have 1500 more posts. Settle down James Dean. I told you and that crayon eating fuck BO&W to not panic about aggy. I have zero idea how you could underestimate Texas’s defense in the 12th game of the year. If they take the field goals offered to them they still don’t beat us lol. Water under the bridge now tho, Georgia will not be that easy to beat. Quinn needs to not turn the ball over. We can agree on that I think.

Who was in a panic? Said all week that Texas wins easily if every offensive drive ends in a kick. Mathematically it’s pretty easy to underestimate giving up 0 pts.

I think Sark is frustrated by Quinn's fuckups. I think he's going to begin increasing the pressure on him to fly right. This fucking week... and beginning Saturday, he will indeed bring Arch in the first time Quinn falters. Probably for just a series or two, or maybe one possession if he takes it down the field. Sark knows it's time for Quinn to get his shit together.

If Sark has any sense at all, he knows we can't find ourselves in another Garrett Gilbert situation - and if we do, it will be all Sark's fault, and should be. Colt McCoy was healthy and his injury was unexpected, but I'm gonna be pretty surprised if Quinn makes it to the fourth Quarter of the Georgia game without a serious limp. Sark has to know this is a possibility, and I don't think that if Quinn comes up limping this time that Sark will be willing to take his foot off the gas pedal. He absolutely has to get Manning more reps, especially for what lies beyond. Sark should not destroy this team's season because of Quinn.

Gonna be interesting.

Look at it this way. Sark has probably hit this thread three times in the last six hours looking for some direction. Hoping for a blinding flash of "fuck, why didn't I think of that". The road ahead is clear. Nothing gonna stop us now. The Dream Season is back on track. Experience QB teams with Freshman to win Natty. A star running back emerges. The next Earl Campbell has arrived! We beat Oregon 33-7.

This isn't an Arch vs Quinn contest where you have to take sides and stay there. There has been no QB that played at Texas that I spent time dragging through the mud like yall do Quinn. I learned my lesson with Simms. Fan dislike spreads and if you think it doesn't affect the players you are wrong. That is why I hate it so much. The only reason people are like that towards Quinn is because Arch is here.

Newsflash: QB is the most important position in sports. When they play well, they get their flowers. When they don't, they get lots of criticism.

Quinn was the #1 ranked player in the country out of HS. He is a millionaire from his time at Texas. He has shown flashes of brilliance, it's ok to expect more.

To be fair he has 3 NFL WR's right now, a better TE, and a better RT.

ball to the outside shoulder there and wingo can catch that....I have no idea where it was headed before it was tipped though to be fair. I don't really understand why wingo fell down though either. Just a bizarre play all around honestly after watching it a few times. DJ campbell is not a very smart OL, he might be physical but he misses a lot.

Are these controversial statements? You could argue that Sanders is a better pure receiver than Helm but (1) that's debatable and (2) Helm is the better TE over all. And Williams is his third season and his first as a starter and is already at least as good as Jones was as a 5th year.

I attended the game in College Station. I came away pretty impressed with Quinn. I could see what he was seeing on the field. He typically made good decisions. Then I rewatched the game on ESPN and I can see why folks are a bit unhappy. The defense wasn’t going to let us lose that game, but Quinn was trying pretty hard to sell. He had a couple turnovers, but he could have easily had another Georgia type day. There’s not another starter on the team who would be starting with this lack of consistency. Gbenda got benched because he was good for two assignment busts a game. Campbell has been benched multiple times throughout the season. I’d like to see Auburn next if he can’t get it together.

Making that throw in the pocket is extremely dangerous and foolish. If he's not rolling out, that route shouldn't be even considered as an option IMO.

Or RTDB considering we were averaging 6+ YPC.  It was 3rd and 4.  Run it twice in a row.  If you don't get it that Aggy offense isn't going 95 yards to score a TD on our defense.

I don't get the willingness to run it down their throat to close out a game, but not to score a TD.

Hard to know if it is picked, but it is more about the situation. No need to take that chance given the game situation. It OK to throw it out of bounds and kick the FG. Quinn is having way too many turnovers this year.. 11 turnovers in 342 touches. That is a turnover every 31.1 touches for perspective Beck is at 34.9 touches

Sanders was most def better than Helm as a receiver before and after the catch which is the important part when you make the comment about a dropoff in receiving talent. Current Cam Williams is not as good as 5th yr Jones. He is projected to be better but the majority of our protection gaffs come from his side. Jones not only held his own but kept Campbell straightened out with the protection scheme.

I hated the play call, but I was hoping to continue running it down their throats. 3rd and 4, run the ball and if you get 2-3 yards you have a decision to make, otherwise take your points after a long and demoralizing drive. There wasn't a single option open on that play so the best case scenario was going to be Quinn throwing it away, instead he made a terrible decision & it got tipped to boot. I texted my brother that hopefully that was Quinn's last wtf turnover.. I was wrong. It seems he just can't help himself.

If you pause the video at the 3 second mark, when wingo makes his cut Lee isn't ready for it and he loses all his momentum forward. His ass sinks down and he's on his heels, quinn releases the ball at that moment. I think it was all going good until the ball was tipped. All quinn hate aside we need to teach our OL to fucking punish people for jumping/leaning up in the air every time they attempt it. It's absurd that cam didn't fuck that guy up when he shifted his balance to lift up in the air.

Context matters. Beck is throwing picks. Quinn is getting balls batted and fumbling from getting hit. He has had two turnovers all year that aren't from those scenarios. Beck barely gets touched back there and is simply making bad reads/decisions.

Its frustrating because i just want to be critical and make honest assessments of Quinn but its hard to do without looking like a hater. I think we can win with him i just wish he could play a little better. And yes the throw to Blue in the end zone was dime as fuck but also a tad lucky.

I didnt really take a "side" on Simms/Applewhite stuff because neither guy was like outstanding or anything. But i do love Simms stuff as an analyst. He is really entertaining with Florio.

Due to pressure/footwork/injury, he had nothing on that throw even if it wasn't tipped. You're asking any QB to be incredibly accurate with perfect anticipation to make that route work. Bad call, bad decision by Quinn.

He saw what looked like LB running free up the middle and just kind of panicked.

We can tell the difference between the people being critical of a play and just being haters. The haters disappear when Quinn plays well but come roaring back when Quinn makes a mistake. Check the game threads. As far as that throw goes when a DB has his back to you, is in trail, and it's a relatively short toss you give your guy a chance.

Helm is definitely better than Sanders. And as far as after the catch goes, have you not seen Helm hurdle a defender almost every fuckin game? Sanders had a bit more shake and bake in his routes, but god damn Helm is the man with the ball in his hands. And Helm can actually block this year, which is something Sanders barely aspired to do.

A huge problem with both of Ewers' turnovers against A&M was playcalling. As you said, RTDB in the red zone. Why are we going for a low percentage perimeter pass? It could have worked but for the tip, but I still don't like it.

But playcalling on the second turnover (the fumble) was inexcusable. We have a hobbled QB who was not a great runner to begin with, why are we asking him to do zone read in the red zone? Did Sark think Manning was in? Makes no sense. That doesn't excuse how careless Ewers was being with the football, but the problem started with the playcall.

I don't agree - in 2023, Sanders had 45 receptions for 682 yards and 2 TDs. His longest reception (catch and run) was 50 yards. This season, Helm has 48 receptions for 600 yards and 5 TDs. His longest reception was 49 yards.

Sanders was a great receiving TE, but his numbers aren't materially better than Helm's. On top of that, Helm has been absolutely mission critical in giving Ewers an outlet on tough downs. Ewers clearly trusts Helm and feels more confident throwing him the ball. In other words, I don't think the numbers support the argument that Sanders was better and I don't think the eye test supports it either.
