Low end signing bonus in the 1st round is ~ $5M-$6M.  A $4M college deal (if available) wouldn't suck, because few people think he's a Day 1 player any more.  I don't know at what point in the 2nd round the signing bonuses drop below $4M, and of course there is the guaranteed component of the rest of an NFL contract, but a transfer for good NIL money might not be the worst idea.  I just don't think he'll match whatever NFL money he can actually make.  Plus, injury risk.

If he doesn't implode in the playoffs, go pro, dude.  Take what you get.

If I were him, and the 4 mil offer was real, I'd take it in a heartbeat. Its the smart move.

edit to add: Also he can keep getting that sweet sweet Dr. P money

Every game we won with him at QB you could say we won because he played.  Why are you guys not shitting all over Golden for his multi-drop passes, one in particular in the endzone? How about Bond blowing routes? Team game. Pretty sure that no-look pass he threw and the pass to Blue in the aggy game were pretty badass.

That pick 6 and fumble vs Aggie in the red zone was badass, right?

1) It's pretty clear that Texas is moving on to Manning next year.

2) Ewers is going to want $. Like mentioned above, Ewers isn't worth what he's going to want.

I haven’t seen anything indicating 1 is true.

if someone is offering Quinn 4 mil he should take it. No guarantees he gets that in the nfl this year.  He’s at best qb5 if Milroe comes out

Let’s hope Quinn comes out on fire because I absolutely think he will get booed if our offense can’t score any TDs. It’s not personal, it’s just football.

Quinn gets more hate than Squints. This place is ridiculous.

Not hate

Just being realistic

I hope he proves us all wrong because I love Quinn and I think he’s a great Longhorn. He’s just clearly struggled with pocket presence at times to the point where our offense is totally broken for big important stretches of games.

Maybe he just needed two weeks off and he’s going to come out like he was against Michigan and be unstoppable in the playoffs.

“Lost directly because of him…” is the garbage that the vast majority of Quinn’s detractors on this thread even think is ridiculous. Congrats.

scrambled for a first down on third and 7

Scrambled and threw a sweet touchdown that was called back

Scrambled to hit Helm in the back of the end zone

Scrambled and stepped up into the pocket regularly and made play after play

guys in his face he throws completions right by them

Sprint out left and threw a perfect touchdown

I want this Quinn back in the playoffs we will roll

The classic if Quinn points to 1 game this year and a game last year argument.

My hope is dec 7 - jan 8 with two games between those dates - both with 10-14 days in between gives Quinn enough time to heal and if the OL and RBs can road grade Clem / Az State and run the ball and pass pro then maybe he can heal enough and by the time the semis come around he’s in early season form.

Has Quinn ever strung together 4 really good complete games?

Probably only need two really good games. This team should be able to beat Clemson and Az state in their sleep

Exactly. Quinn couldn't possibly find a better situation for a 1 year mercenary stint. He'll take his chances in the draft. Going pro is the better gamble. If he tries to play another year in college he could hurt his draft stock even more.

Or he could hurt the rest of him even more.

I’m glad the team isn’t overly reliant on the QB.  That’s not just a Quinn thing either.  Doesn’t mean the QB should suck just that the team should be able to beat most teams even if the QB has a bad day.

I still don’t understand why if Quinn is the best QB on the roster why he wouldn’t also be the best next year with more playoff experience.  I can’t see Sark pushing him out if he decided to come back.

Jimmyjazz was a big fan of Rodney Terry when we hired him and he defended him just like he is defending Quinn now. I commend your dedication to sticking up for mediocrity or perhaps you just like to be a contrarian on surly?

This coming from a poster who is a well below average person, it makes sense you’d be against mediocrity. After all, it’s unattainable for you.

I fear we will be saying what if a bunch when this team is wasted by Quinn.

Quinn is who he is and can’t change that. If the team’s being “wasted” that’s on Sark, assuming the backup is indeed better. Sark sees far more of both QBs than we do, so it’s quite possible the Manning we’ve created in our heads, because of limited script, isn’t better than Quinn at this point.

Oh, and the above comment applies to you, as well.

IIRC, Gilbert got booed against BYU in 2011.  70+ year old lady 2 rows in front of me was booing about as loudly as  anyone.

I expressed, to no one in particular, but perhaps to the person I was with, "C'mon, this is not necessary.  He knows he's struggling."

70+ year old lady turns to me and says, "If we do not boo him, Mack will leave him in."  I told her that Mack has a close-up of what we are watching - or something like that.

A few plays later, he was removed for David Ash.  She turns to me and yells, "See!  Told ya so!"

Quinn looks much better than I remember when rolling out. Minimizes the pressure up the middle in his face, less tipped balls, cuts the field in half for him, can get rid of it without throwing into triple coverage. That throw rolling left to Golden was pretty

Overall I'm feeling more optimistic about this team in the playoff. Have a higher ceiling than Oregon, OSU, and UGA just bc we're leaving so much meat on the bone on offense.

Sark with 2 wks and some time to re-evaluate is going to come up with something

Wait a minute. Golden has multiple dropped passes? I cannot really remember a bad drop from Golden this year. Possible it has happened, but he has been one of the most consistent players for the offense.

I don’t characterize that end zone play as a drop. That is definitely a contested catch opportunity. Catchable pass, but I wouldn’t say a drop. Even if you want to call that a drop, I cannot think of another. He also makes the tough catches (50/50 ball on sideline being one).

It looks as though PFF tagged him with 2 drops in the championship game.  If that was 1, they may have given Ewers a BTT too.

I don’t think either of those were the case.  It was certainly catchable.  Even though the defender did not hit the ball, he was a distraction and possible he could have obstructed Goldens vision for a moment.

I need to watch it again but thought there was room to put it out front of Golden.  A good example of a play that’s there and can win you a game.

Pass was slightly off to the inside and touch under thrown (obviously looking with a critical eye). My general view was it was good offense vs good coverage. Defender didn’t hit the ball, but he had his arm between Golden’s arms and body. Not sure he doesn’t make a play to break it up, if Golden grabs it. I get people calling it a drop, but it is on that line to me. More a contested catch situation that could go either way. I can’t remember another throw that you would consider a drop for Golden

Here are my random thoughts this morning, if anyone cares. I actually think Sark has done a great job of not turning this into a full blown Applewhite/Simms nightmare. I said leaving the spring game that Ewers better ball the fuck out and not miss any time due to injury, or either this would get real ugly quick, or Ewers just wouldn't get his job back.

Part of it is local coverage guys like Hamilton and Wadlington very obviously biting their tongues. There hasn't really been any open clamoring for Manning to take over the job. And it's really only recently that national guys like Eisen have started going "Hey wait a second... Ewers has looked very mediocre for most of the season now, and we're still not seeing Manning. WTF?". So, in that respect, good job everyone.

But we're in win or go home mode now. The QB who gives us the best chance to win needs to be on the field. Just like every other position. Like someone said above, I almost expect Arch to take the last snap of our season, whenever that is.

I think anything else would be criminal unless Quinn blows everyone out and is in victory for the next 4 games.

I think Texas has at least 11 wins this season with either QB. People can mention Michigan or Florida, but I don’t see Texas losing either game with Arch in those games. The defense dominated both games. Margin of victory might have been different, but not the results. You could say the same for Ark and A&M game. Those might have been an easier wins with Arch. That is probably why this thread will never end

I cannot recall any game where the Longhorns were behind and Quinn Ewers did anything clutch to win it.

Only a lowlife like you would resort to personal attacks against someone you have never met or known in real life. Prove me you're smarter or more accomplished than me or take your personal attack bullshit to the recruiting board where a few of you thrive on attacking folks who don't follow recruiting as closely. People who have under achieved in their life tend to project on social media. And don't make me post my nursing paystubb!

This is the take many of us have had. The part that I - and I am not alone - think has not been handled well, is giving Arch enough snaps. We all get it, that the important issue is winning this game, now. As long as it has worked so far - other than the CCG - we can live with it. I think we'll see Arch sooner rather than later unless Quinn returns to Meatchicken form. It wouldn't surprise me, if Quinn can't put us in the end zone on the first possession or two, to see Arch on the field the next trip into Red.

Regardless, the point now is that we're in "do or die" mode, so the only real "QB Controversy" left to worry about is "Why the Fuck didn't he go to Arch earlier?" We have the reasoning here, and I think Sark has done a great job of seeing and working toward the Big Picture, but he still needs to be able to push that out of the way and concentrate on winning this game, right here, right now. End-game UGa CCG and end-game UDub Playoff were too similar, and it damn sure shouldn't happen again... not this Clemson game nor the next one(s) if we get there.
